AC Milan have reappointed Massimiliano Allegri as their head coach. The 57-year-old Italian previously managed the Serie A club from June 2010 to January 2014.Allegri succeeds Sergio Conceicao, who was sacked on Thursday after only six months in charge of the Rossoneri."The club extends a warm welcome and best wishes to Massimiliano and his staff," a Milan statement read.Milan finished 2024-25 in a disappointing eighth position and lost to Bologna in the final of the Coppa Italia, which means they will not play in Europe next season. The last of their 19 Serie A titles came in 2021-22 under Stefano Pioli.Allegri won the Scudetto in his first season of charge of Milan in 2010-11 - the club's first since 2004 - before he was sacked. He then enjoyed a trophy-laden spell in charge of Juventus between 2014 and 2019, where he won the Serie A title in five consecutive seasons.During that time Juve were also twice beaten in the final of the Champions League before he left by mutual consent. After two years out of management, Allegri returned for a less successful stint with the Turin club between 2021 and 2024.Allegri also previously managed Aglianese, SPAL, Grosseto, Sassuolo and Cagliari.

No more outside courts for me, only centre court from now on, says Sabalenka

PARIS, June 1 (Reuters) - World number one Aryna Sabalenka is done playing on the outside courts in Paris and wants only the centre court from now on as she chases her first French Open crown. The top seed has played two of her four matches so far on the Suzanne Lenglen court -- the second court with a capacity of 10,000 -- including Sunday's straight sets win over American Amanda Anisimova. The Belarusian three-time Grand Slam champion, however, now wants her quarter-final against China's seventh-seed and Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen to be scheduled on the Philippe Chatrier court, which fits 5,000 more fans than the Lenglen. "If you ask me what I prefer, I prefer to play on Philippe Chatrier," Sabalenka told a press conference. "Why the decision was to put me on that court for the second time, I don't know. Hopefully from now I'm going to be playing only on Philippe Chatrier. I think I should be, right?," she said. Sabalenka said while playing on the smaller court gave fans without tickets to the showcase court the opportunity to watch her play, the Philippe Chatrier had a different aura and a bigger audience. "When you play on the biggest courts, they show those matches on the TV, so more people are watching and you can show yourself to more people," Sabalenka said. "Also, the court is so beautiful, and it's much bigger. The moment you step on the Chatrier, you feel like, okay, this is a big stage, and this is where I'm meant to be." "This is where I want to compete, and I want to fight, and I want to bring my best tennis. So I think it's all about the energy of the stadium."

Alcaraz stops Shelton and returns to French Open quarter-finals

PARIS, June 1 (Reuters) - Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz etched his name deeper in clay by overcoming American Ben Shelton 7-6(8) 6-3 4-6 6-4 for his 100th tour-level win on the surface to reach the French Open quarter-finals for a fourth successive year on Sunday. The 22-year-old Spaniard endured a shaky outing against Damir Dzumhur in his last match and was dragged into a dogfight by big-serving Shelton on Court Philippe Chatrier before he pulled away to book a meeting with another American in Tommy Paul. "Today I fought against myself, in my mind," said Alcaraz. "I tried to calm myself as I was mad, angry and talking not really good things. I'm really happy not to let those thoughts play against me. I tried to calm myself and keep going." Alcaraz missed his only breakpoint opportunity in the first 12 games and clawed back from 1-4 down in the tiebreak before he saved three set points to clinch an entertaining opening stanza when Shelton sent a shot into the net. The second seed's serve came under immense pressure in a 12-minute opening game of the second set, but he staved off Shelton six times to hold, and edged in front with forehand thunderbolts that forced his opponent into mistakes. Shelton persevered and took a 3-1 lead in the third set but allowed Alcaraz back into the game, only to regain composure and pull a set back to give himself a chance to secure the biggest victory of his career. It was not to be as Alcaraz wrested complete control in the fourth set and quelled the challenge of the 13th seed, finishing him off on serve with a booming forehand on his second matchpoint to let out a roar. "We both have huge respect for each other," added Alcaraz. "Every time we face each other, we bring a high level and play good tennis. He's a really powerful player and can make any shot ... he's an unbelievable player. "We played complete tennis, big shots, coming to the net, big forehands ... We stayed there during the whole match. For me, it's great having him around, it's a great energy."
