DPM's working visit expands Malaysia's strategic network in energy, water sectors
TASHKENT: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof's official working visit to Uzbekistan and Russia is expected to expand Malaysia's strategic network in the fields of energy and water at the international level.
Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, will be on a working visit to both countries from June 21 to 28.
The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) said that apart from enhancing the Malaysian delegation's understanding of modern nuclear energy technology, the working visit is also an initiative to attract investors and strengthen cooperation and aspirations of MADANI Malaysia through the formation of constructive bilateral relations.
The ministry added that the visit also reflects Malaysia's commitment to forming global strategic partnerships to address future energy and water challenges.
'It demonstrates the country's active role in exploring resilient and sustainable solutions through knowledge sharing, technology and foreign investment,' PETRA said in a statement today.
Among the contents of the visit to Uzbekistan from June 21 to 24 is a courtesy call on Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to discuss bilateral affairs and efforts to expand cooperation in the fields of energy and sustainable development.
In addition, the Joint Meeting with Uzbekistan's Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov will focus on discussions on technical cooperation and investment in renewable energy.
In Russia from June 25 to 28, he is scheduled to attend a bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to discuss strategic cooperation in the field of energy.
Fadillah is also scheduled to conduct a technical visit to the ROSATOM Nuclear Power Plant in St Petersburg to review the latest nuclear technology and international safety standards.

FBM KLCI perks up in late-morning trade as regional sentiment improves
KUALA LUMPUR: A late-morning rally in Bursa Malaysia's blue chips leading up to the lunch break took the FBM KLCI into positive territory on Friday. In regional markets, there was some rebound in equities prices after US President Donald Trump said he would wait two weeks before deciding on a potential attack on Iran. Hong Kong's Hang Seng snapped three days of losses to rise 1.15% to 23,504. China's blue-chip CSI300 added 0.24% to 3,852 while the country's composite index was little changed at 3,364. Japan's Nikkei slid 0.12% to 38,443.

Palm oil muted but poised for sixth weekly gain
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian palm oil futures were muted on Friday as traders awaited cargo surveyors' export estimates, but the contract was still set for a sixth consecutive weekly gain as stronger rival edible oils supported the market. The benchmark palm oil contract for September delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange gained RM7, or 0.17 per cent, to RM4,111 (US$967.52) a metric tonne in early trade. The contract has gained 5.50 per cent so far this week. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract rose 0.62 per cent, while its palm oil contract added 0.28 per cent. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade were up 0.09 per cent. Palm oil tracks price movements of rival edible oils, as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. Cargo surveyors are expected to release Malaysian palm oil export estimates for June 1–20 later in the day. Oil prices were on track to rise for the third straight week despite slipping on Friday, with investors on edge as the week-old war between Israel and Iran showed no signs of either side backing down. Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. The ringgit, palm's currency of trade, strengthened 0.21 per cent against the dollar, making the commodity more expensive for buyers holding foreign currencies. Palm oil may test the resistance zone of RM4,157 to RM4,185 per metric tonne, a break above which could lead to a gain to RM4,229, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said.

155 MALBATT 850-12 Personnel Honoured With UN Medals In Lebanon
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 155 officers and personnel from the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) 850-12 were awarded the United Nations (UN) Medal during a ceremonial medal parade held at Camp Marakah, Lebanon, yesterday. In a statement issued today, MALBATT 850-12 confirmed that the recipients included 20 officers, 134 rank-and-file personnel, and one Administrative and Diplomatic Officer. 'Leading the list of honourees was MALBATT 850-12 commander Colonel Johan Effendi Mohd Shalleh, receiving the medal as a symbolic recognition of his leadership and key role in the successful execution of the mission. 'The medals were then presented to senior officers and all other personnel by UNIFIL Western Sector commander, Brig Gen Nicola Mandolesi,' the statement said. The medal parade was led by MALBATT 850-12 deputy commander Lt Col Firdaus Shah Budin and accompanied by a military band from the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT). Also in attendance was Malaysian Ambassador to Lebanon, Azri Mat Yacob, who took part in the medal presentation as a gesture of the Malaysian government's support and appreciation for the battalion's contributions to international peacekeeping. 'The awarding of the UN Medal is formal recognition of MALBATT 850-12's contributions to regional peace and their professional and dedicated execution of international duties,' the statement said. MALBATT 850-12 began its deployment under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in November 2024, during a particularly volatile period marked by conflict in southern Lebanon and heightened regional tensions involving Israel and Iran - factors that have severely strained local political stability and security. 'In this context, the presence of MALBATT 850-12 plays a vital role in supporting UNIFIL's mandate to assist the Lebanese Government in strengthening security control and monitoring within their area of operations.
