Costacurta would not sell Milan trio but nobody ‘absolutely essential'

Yahoo28-02-2025
Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta would not sell Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan next season but notes that nobody is 'absolutely essential' in the Rossoneri squad.
Milan suffered the second consecutive defeat in Serie A on Thursday, losing 2-1 against Bologna at the Stadio Dall'Ara.
The Rossoneri are currently out of a European placement as they sit 8th, eight points below the top four.
Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan have been in the spotlight this season with disappointing performances, and recent reports have claimed that they could all leave the club in the summer.
'I don't know if it's the end for everyone, but I do think it is for the Scudetto winners,' Costacurta told Sky Sport after Milan's loss last night.
'I believe tonight, just like other matches, adds to a pattern of games played in a certain way, with mistakes. They put in the effort, but we keep talking about errors.'
'If you sell Leao, Theo, and Maignan, it's possible that you could even build a stronger team. It all depends on the evaluations,' continued the ex-defender.
'You can create a better squad than this one. I don't think Milan depend on them. Depend on what? They're in eighth place, 17 points behind the leaders.
'I believe no one is indispensable to Milan. If they need to be sold, then sell them. Personally, I wouldn't sell them. I'd keep a couple of them. But I still don't think they are absolutely essential.'
Costacurta spent almost his entire club career at Milan, playing at San Siro from 1987 to 2007. The only other professional club he played for was Monza, on loan, in 1986-87.
Costacurta made 663 appearances with Milan, scoring three goals. He won seven Serie A titles, five Champions League trophies, five Supercoppa Italiana, two Intercontinental Cups, and one Coppa Italia.

Napoli's Romelu Lukaku facing months on the sidelines with quad injury

Romelu Lukaku is expected to be sidelined for around three months after Napoli confirmed the forward had suffered a torn quad muscle. Lukaku, 32, was forced off in Napoli's friendly win over Olympiacos on Thursday — their final fixture before Antonio Conte's side begin their Serie A title defence at Sassuolo on Saturday. Advertisement Lukaku underwent tests at the private Pineta Grande Hospital to the north east of Naples and, in a brief statement, the club said he had suffered 'a high-grade lesion of the rectus femoris in his left thigh' and had already begun rehabilitation. Napoli added that Lukaku 'will undergo a surgical consultation' to determine if he needs a procedure. Napoli signed Italy international forward Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Udinese earlier in the summer, while Kevin De Bruyne is among their other new additions in a busy transfer window for the Scudetto holders. But Lucca is now Conte's only recognised option at centre-forward following the departures of Giovanni Simeone on loan to Torino and Giacomo Raspadori to Atletico Madrid. Lukaku was a key player for Conte's side last season, scoring 14 goals and registering 10 assists in the top flight, as Napoli beat Inter Milan to the title by a single point. () Spot the pattern. Report – Inter Milan & Albania Star Must Accept Pay Cut To Join Bologna

Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani will reportedly have to accept reducing his wages in order to join Bologna. This according to today's print edition of Il Cartelino del Resto, via FCInter1908. The Nerazzurri have been working to offload the Albanian international this summer. Asllani joined Inter from Empoli in the summer of 2022. And after three years at the club, it has become clear that he is not a part of the plans. Therefore, Inter have made no secret of the fact that Asllani is up for sale. Meanwhile, the player himself reportedly prioritized staying in Serie A. He therefore turned down a move to Real Betis. (Photo by) Asllani himself would see Bologna as an ideal move. He would be staying in Serie A, and also would have the opportunity to compete in Europe. However, the Albanian will have to accept a reduction in his wages. Asllani earns €2 million net per season at Inter. That is higher than Bologna's wage cap, reports Il Cartelino del Resto. Summer signings Ciro Immobile and Federico Bernardeschi have agreed wages lower than that. And according to Il Cartelino del Resto, Asllani would likely have to agree to reduce his wages by €200,000-250,000 net per season.
