Will Investing $150K into Tesla Stock (TSLA) Make You a Millionaire? Elon Musk Thinks So

Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk recently responded to a social media post suggesting that investing $150,000 in the EV maker's stock now would likely make someone a millionaire. The post featured a screenshot showing Tesla's stock performance since its 2010 IPO. Musk replied, 'I think this is probably correct,' which shows that he continues to be confident in the company's long-term potential. This optimistic outlook comes as Tesla bets big on autonomous driving and energy solutions, despite facing near-term challenges. Indeed, one of those challenges includes declining sales in certain regions. For example, Tesla's European deliveries dropped sharply in July, with sales in France and the UK falling by over 60%. At the same time, Elon Musk is set to receive more than 96 million Tesla shares, valued at over $29 billion, as part of his CEO compensation plan. While that's a massive sum, it's still below the original $56 billion package that was overturned by a Delaware judge in 2024. In addition, Tesla's Robotaxi plans have drawn criticism. In fact, analyst Gary Black from Future Fund LLC warned that Tesla won't be the only company to achieve unsupervised autonomous driving. Although Tesla has expanded its ride-hailing pilot in the San Francisco Bay Area, it still includes safety drivers, so it's not yet a true Robotaxi service. Meanwhile, Chinese EV rival BYD (BYDDF) is stepping up its game by launching its luxury brands Yangwang and Denza in Europe next year, which will increase the competitive pressure on Tesla. What Is the Prediction for Tesla Stock? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on TSLA stock based on 13 Buys, 15 Holds, and eight Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average TSLA price target of $305.37 per share implies 4.2% downside risk.
