Ludhiana: PABI-PAU startup unveils refrigerated cargo vehicle

The eRIL 200 is the second product in Yotuh Energy's electrified refrigeration line-up designed for frozen intracity logistics, targeting sectors like food, dairy, pharmaceuticals, and vaccine transport. Its standalone lithium-ion battery-powered refrigeration system reduces operational costs by up to 80% compared to conventional diesel-based systems. It is integrated with cooling controls that optimise energy use while ensuring the safe transport of sensitive perishable goods.
MS Bhullar, director of extension education, PAU, shared, 'Yotuh Energy is an example of how technology, when driven by sustainability and vision, can reshape industries.'
TS Riar, principal investigator, PABI, and Poonam Sachdev, co-PI, PABI, said, 'Yotuh's solution not only enhances supply efficiency but also supports small and medium enterprises in accessing cost-effective cold logistics.'

PU V-C proposes drone tech centre at campus
In a push towards inter-university collaboration and academic innovation, vice-chancellors from various public universities of Punjab participated in a high-level meeting at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana on Wednesday. Organised as part of a series of interactions initiated by the Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, under the group coordinatorship of Panjab University vice chancellor Renu Vig, the meeting focused on enhancing academic cooperation, effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and tackling shared challenges in higher education across the state. Vig proposed joint efforts to establish a drone technology centre at PU. She stressed that using the drone tech centre at PU, and the agricultural knowledge base of PAU, GADVASU, a model village can be established for implementation of best technologies in the field of agriculture. She commended the governor's initiative in fostering academic convergence and emphasised PU's commitment to interdisciplinary innovation, highlighting its collaboration with IIT Ropar, which is recognised as a centre of excellence in artificial intelligence for agriculture. Vig also visited the Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, where she engaged in a session with alumni and leading industrialists of the Ludhiana region to discuss collaborative strategies for academic upliftment and student development. The interactive dialogue featured senior industry leaders including Onkar Singh Pahwa (Avon Cycles), SS Bhogal (Bhogal Sales Corporation) and Komal Jain (Duke Fashions) among others. She also met SP Oswal, chairman, Vardhman Group, to thank him for the ₹1 crore grant to SAIF PU and assured that PU would further the interests of industries in the region.

Ludhiana: Journalism dept at PAU sees surge in applications
After struggling to keep the classroom not empty, the department of journalism at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has seen a turnaround as the applications to MA journalism and mass communication course have gone up to more than twice the number of seats. The department's MA course has seven seats and starting in the late 2010s it started to see a fall in the number of students and the class strength fell to just one student last year. This year the department already has 15 applications. The turnaround for the department is part of the rise in the number of applications for courses across the Varsity. The rise in the number of applications have been attributed to the change in immigration rules to Canada after the friction between the two countries last year which resulted in strict restrictions on Indians trying to move there. The university has received over 6,500 applications across different courses, a significant increase compared to the figures from recent years. According to vice-chancellor, Satbir Singh Gosal, the low number of application in the last few years were due to 'overwhelming allure of foreign education, particularly in Canada.' HoD, deparmtent of journalism, Sheetal Thapar said, 'The department is fully committed to ensure quality media training by adapting to the changing media landscape and innovation.' She highlighted that the department is also planning to upgrade its media lab into an omni man lab with a TV studio to ensure that the students can be trained properly for the industry in line with the modern requirements. 'The department is also planning to incorporate social media management and the role of artificial intelligence in media into the training,' she added.

PAU ex-dean Chhuneja gets lifetime achievement award
Ludhiana: Former professor and dean (postgraduate studies) of PAU, Pardeep Kumar Chhuneja, has been conferred with the lifetime achievement award in apiculture. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria presented him the award at the inaugural function of World Bee Day at Kalkat Bhawan in Mohali recently. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The award is a recognition of Chhuneja's outstanding contributions and achievements in the discipline of apiculture at the state, national and international level. Punjab's Kissan Vikas Chamber had organised a national level workshop on apiculture on World Bee Day, in which Kataria was the chief guest, and PAU VC Satbir Singh Gosal the guest of honour. Besides witnessing the participation of beekeepers, farmers and extension functionaries, the event also saw several high-level officials of allied departments from Delhi and Punjab, and various universities. With 39 years of experience of working in apiculture, Chhuneja is currently the member of ICAR-PAMC for AICRP on honey bees. He is the chairman of Apiary Industry Sectional Committee of BIS, and is also representing India in ISO in its all the working groups on apiculture. Chhuneja is actively engaged in apicultural activities at the national as well as international level, even after his superannuation and is working on various apiculture assignments with ISO, BIS, NAAS, ICAR, etc. In addition, he is guiding various public sector and private universities, NGOs and apiculture industry, and beekeepers' associations and individual beekeepers, with great enthusiasm and zeal.
