Who is William Goodge?
Originally from Ampthill, Bedfordshire, 31-year-old William Goodge had already amassed an impressive résumé of long-distance runs around the world before taking on the dash down under.
His highlights have included a run through The Sahara Desert, completing a marathon in every English county over a 30-day period, running the 104 miles around Lake Como in 24 hours, and crossing the 3,175 miles from Los Angeles to New York in just 55 days.
In addition to ultramarathons and running across countries, William is also a male model signed by the prestigious Wilhemina agency, and previously played
However, his passion for long-distance runs was born through a personal tragedy.
William first started training for marathons to cope with the loss of his mother to cancer in 2018.
Now, he makes his record-breaking journeys in her honour, and to fundraise for the cause.
'I quickly found running was a way for me to deal with that emotional pain, and I took it to an extreme quite quickly after that,' he shared with
'When times get tough, which is quite frequent, I'll think of her and other people who are fighting for their lives who haven't chosen to be in that position. I've chosen to be in the position I'm in, so I feel like I don't have a valid excuse to stop.'

The record-breaking run route
William's run across Australia was no easy feat.
Starting at Cottesloe Beach in Perth on April 15 and finishing along Bondi Beach on May 19, William's route brought him through the country's remote wilderness.
Although he has a love for desert runs and celebrated his 31st birthday on this one, William told
"It was full-on from start to finish," he said.
Throughout his journey, he faced painful experiences ranging from rotting feet and fallen-off toenails to bone aches and hallucinations from sleep deprivation.
'I wasn't sleeping at night and I had deep pain in my bones and things like hip flexors," William said to
"Mentally I was tossing and turning throughout the night, hallucinating a little bit, which isn't that fun.'

After over a month of pushing his physical and mental strength to the limit, he met his father at the finish line in Bondi Beach and laid down a bouquet of lilies in honour of his mother.
"I feel like I've turned what is pain into a powerful story, or the tagline I like to use is 'emotion equals energy'," he said in an interview with The West Australian.
"If you can channel it towards something, and it doesn't have to be physical, it's a pretty full well from which to pull water and fuel."

William also shared his warm-up for the journey with The West Australian: an over-500km run from Tokyo to Osaka in
If his claim is verified by Guinness World Records, he'll have beaten the current record holder, Australia's very own Chris Turnbull, by a full four days.

Tadhg Beirne: ‘It had only been a year since I had been let go by Leinster. To be back there and to get that result with Scarlets was pretty special'
The Munster and Ireland player talks about the historic game that changed everything for him at 15, getting spotted to play for Leinster and embracing every opportunity I was lucky enough to go to the Ireland versus England game in the 2007 Six Nations. That sticks out to me as a massive moment growing up. I was not long playing rugby at school and was starting to take a real interest in it. That game made such an impact and was an eye-opener for me as a kid. It gave me a real itch to play the game. There was such a huge build-up with the match being played at Croke Park and England coming over. The anthems, ahead of the game, will always stay with me. There was respect for the English anthem, then this unbelievable noise for the Irish anthems. You could see how much it meant to the players there. Some were singing while others were crying. Some were doing both. Real goose bumps stuff. It showed you how much it meant to everyone. You just had this feeling that it was going to be a special game. Crazy atmosphere.

Guests at hotel blast 'chavs' & defend 'delicious' Greek food after gran's moan
Regular guests at the Corfu hotel lambasted by a British gran for its lack of so-called English grub have hit out at "pathetic chavs" leaving negative reviews. The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel on the Greek isle was thrust into the limelight this week following Susan Edwards, 69, moaning about the scarcity of chips and her frustration at constantly seeing rice. The hotel's management has since defended their menu, touting it as "generous and diverse", with a daily spread of "fresh salads, fruits, hot and cold dishes". In the wake of the controversy, guests have flocked to Tripadvisor and Google Reviews to champion the resort they adore, claiming Ms Edwards' gripes are unjust. One so incensed penned their inaugural Tripadvisor critique to label fellow holidaymakers as "pathetic chavs". This profile, freshly set-up this month apparently as a retort to the dispute, awarded the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel top marks. Their review states: "Don't listen to pathetic chavvy Brits and Poles who bought the cheapest 'all Inclusive' package in existence and demanded type of service only the most entitled and uncouth would. It's a fine, charming little place. Close to water, nice food and clean facilities. Thankfully, no British food!". Another commentator also sneaks in a sly jab at Ms Edwards' complaints, asserting the Greek cuisine is scrumptious. They, with apparent sarcasm, praised the way in which the hotel caters for Scottish visitors in their appraisal, posted mere hours after Ms Edwards' grievances hit the headlines, reports the Mirror. The traveller wrote: "Phenomenal hotel, very comfortable and well located for a relaxing holiday, we are regular visitors. Excellent all inclusive food and drink package, they really go out their way to cater for Scottish visitors. "We enjoyed draught Tennant's lager, Irn Bru was on tap (diet and full fat), square sausage on a roll at breakfast, scotch pies and bridies at lunchtime, and there was always a choice of haggis or mince 'n tatties at dinner. Tunnock's tea cakes and shortbread were available all day, along with Scottish Blend tea. The staff are lovely and cannot do enough for you. The Greek dishes are also immense, which is a bonus, as Corfu is in Greece." Praise continued on Google Reviews, where most pegged Lido Corfu Sun Hotel with top marks - five stars. One of the recent glowing reviews stated: "The food is delicious. The service is great. We arrived at 4am and at 8am we got a room and wristbands and we could use everything. On the day of departure after adding the key to the transfer itself we could use all the facilities and food. We sincerely recommend." Ms Edwards, a gran from Westerhope, Newcastle, described her holiday as "horrendous" from the moment she and her family arrived, including her two cousins, second cousin, and daughter. TUI responded to the fiasco by offering the guests €120 in holiday vouchers, with a spokesperson expressing their regret: "Our priority is to ensure customers have the best possible holiday experience, so we are sorry to hear that Ms Edwards felt dissatisfied with her holiday. We have been in touch directly with Ms Edwards to come to a resolution."
