At Lord's, India's defiance crafts a tale greater than victory

Some days, a Test match is about the pursuit of victory. On others, it's about the game's ability to draw out human tenacity, skill, and spirit. On July 14, at Lord's, cricket triumphed, turning players into warriors, elevating the ordinary to heroes. It was a day that reminded us why Test cricket remains the game's toughest form—a battle where the sport itself writes the greatest story and shapes the toughest Drama UnfoldsOver five days at cricket's spiritual epicentre, India and England played a Test where destiny couldn't decide how to separate the winner from the vanquished. Like Shakespeare's Hamlet, it vacillated till the proverbial last hour, a moment heavy with the weight of fate.A ball delivered by Shoaib Bashir, a bowler with a broken hand, was played by Mohammed Siraj into the turf. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, it would have rolled harmlessly down the pitch. But July 14, as history testifies, is a day of the unexpected at Lord's, its pinnacle being England's miraculous win in the 2019 cricket World Cup final. Just like that historic day, the unexpected happened on Monday when it wasn't expected. Defended by Siraj with soft hands, the ball spun back, slithered through the grass like a snake, and stung the stumps, nudging the bails off their grooves. As Siraj collapsed on the track in dejection, and England players flew around the ground in elation, destiny sighed with relief—a stroke of luck had ended one of the greatest matches in recent vs IND, 3rd TEST HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARDThis was no ordinary dismissal. It was a poignant end to a match that refused to be defined by statistics alone. The scorecards would note England's 387 and 192, India's 387 and 170, but they wouldn't capture the raw emotion—the collective gasp of the Lord's crowd, the steely resolve and anguish in the eyes of India's batters, or the sheer defiance of Ben Stokes who had nothing left to give but gave it anyway. Test cricket, in that fleeting moment, revealed its beauty: a game where every ball is a microcosm of life's unpredictability, where triumph and heartbreak are separated by the width of a in DefianceIndia wins dozens of cricket matches every year. Most are forgotten. But some losses linger because they remind us of extraordinary acts of heroism and the triumph of human resilience. Decades ago, Sunil Gavaskar stood defiant on a crumbling Bangalore pitch against Pakistan. Later, Sachin Tendulkar battled a crumbling back and Pakistan's bowlers in Chennai. In 2019, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja dragged India to the brink of a World Cup final, only for a sharp throw to end the dream. Like unrequited love, we still remember these Lord's in 2025, India wrote a similar timeless tragedy through the sheer grit of Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, who took their side to the cusp of an unimaginable victory until a cruel dismissal ended the surreal the stroke of lunch on Day 5, England had India reeling. Chasing 193, India crumbled to 112/8, with Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes tearing through the top order. Rishabh Pant fell for 9, Washington Sundar for a duck, and KL Rahul's resistance ended at 33. When Nitish Kumar Reddy departed after raising hopes, the match seemed a heist was being planned in the dressing room. Just before Reddy's fall, the camera panned to a rare sight: Bumrah shadow-batting on the Lord's balcony, a poet sharpening his pen for an enemy with swords. With a series of ducks on his scorecard, and the ball resembling a grenade in the hands of Archer and Stokes, Bumrah seemed set for a quick entry and exit. Yet, post-lunch, Bumrah combined with Jadeja, who stayed unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls, to orchestrate a fightback that will be etched in Lord's lore. Playing with the patience of a man granted immortality on the cricket pitch, Bumrah batted for nearly two hours, blocking with a straight bat, swatting at bouncers. After his exit, Siraj, battered by short balls but unyielding, continued the fight, bringing India within 22 runs of a win. Each run was a heist, each block a defiance of despair, each passing minute a celebration of hope till Bashir's dramatic Two GladiatorsBut the real gladiators of the match were two great allrounders—England's captain Ben Stokes and India's Jadeja. Stokes, England's gritty leader, who resembles a Viking warrior ready to put everything on the line, exemplified courage and physical endurance. His five wickets, 77 runs, and Rishabh Pant's runout, a pivotal moment, weren't ordinary contributions. Aware of the demands of the match, the frailty of Bashir's broken hand, the delicate physique of Jofra Archer–who was making a comeback after four-plus years–Stokes bowled 24 overs in the fourth innings despite a rebellious body and reminders from the dressing room to slow it down. His resolve never wavered. "I've taken myself to some pretty dark places, but if bowling your country to a Test match win doesn't get you excited, I don't know what does,' he said the other side stood Ravindra Jadeja. Unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls, Jadeja was the rock around which India's improbable dream was built. As wickets tumbled and hope dwindled, he stood firm, his bat a shield against England's Viking warrior. Each ball he faced was a battle, each run a rebellion against the odds. Jadeja's innings was not about flair but fortitude—his patient blocks and measured drives were a crown on the head of a man who refused to be fell short, handing England a 2-1 series lead. Yet, the match's soul lay in its intangibles—Stokes' leadership, Jadeja's defiance, Bumrah's patience, Siraj's courage, and the collective will of an Indian side that refused to surrender. India lost, but it felt like a victory in spirit, a reminder of Test cricket's unmatched ability to forge heroes from Sharma, our guest author, likes to write on cricket, cinema, music and politics. Land pooling for Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor starts

Indore: Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has announced the commencement of land pooling for the proposed 19.60 km Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor, which will have commercial and industrial activities on its both sides. The infrastructure project aims to enhance connectivity between Pithampur, airport, and other key urban areas, thereby promoting commercial and industrial activities in the state. MPIDC, Indore executive director Himanshu Prajapati said, "The layout for the proposed 19.60 km Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor has been finalised, and with this, the process of land pooling has started. Consents for more than 250 acre reached us, and we are actively collecting documents from the landowners. " The corridor, stretching 20 km in length and 75 metre in width, will encompass both govt and private lands, with an expected extension of 300 metre on either side. The project carries an estimated cost exceeding Rs 2,400 crore. MPIDC has published the plot numbers of lands from 17 villages, including Kordiabardi, Nainod, Rinjalay, Bisnavada, Navadapanth, Shriram Talavali, Sindoda, Sindodi, Shivkheda, Narlay, Mokalay, Dehri, Sonvay, Bhainslay, Bagoda, Tihi, and Dhannad. Under the Land Pooling Act, there is currently a provision to return 50 per cent of the land to its owners. However, for the Economic Corridor, chief minister Mohan Yadav in March announced the allocation of 60 per cent of the total developed land to the farmers. "As the land acquisition process gains momentum, anticipation builds around the potential economic benefits that the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor will unlock, paving the way for enhanced industrial growth and job creation in the region. The coming months will be crucial as MPIDC continues its efforts to realise this ambitious infrastructure project," said Prajapati.

6 Reasons Why Mazda Won't Like Nissan's New Electric Sedan in China

Nissan launched its $17,000 N7 electric sedan in China on April 28, and the model has already received over 20,000 orders. In May, Nissan delivered 3,034 N7s in China, while the Mazda EZ-6, a competing electric sedan starting at $19,600, sold 1,821 units. Nissan confirmed that the N7 will expand to global markets, but hasn't yet specified which countries. While the N7 and the EZ-6 didn't sell as many units in May as models like Toyota's new bZ3X electric SUV, the two vehicles are helping deliver the value that Chinese consumers are looking for in an electric sedan, and Nissan has Mazda beat beyond price. Both models are comparable in size, with the N7 measuring 194 inches in length and 74.6 inches in width, and the EZ-6 measuring 193.7 inches in length and 74.6 inches in width. The N7 offers two motor options with 215 and 268 horsepower, respectively, while the EZ-6's electric powertrain delivers 258 horsepower. An EZ-6 gets you from 0-62 MPH in 6.2 seconds, and the 268-horsepower N7 isn't far behind at 6.9 seconds. While Mazda offers an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) EZ-6 that's fundamentally an electric car, this version also features a 1.5-liter gas engine used as a battery recharging generator, so we'll focus on the EV version. Regarding range, the N7's two lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery options-58 kWh and 73 kWh-yield 335 miles and 388 miles of range, respectively. Mazda's fully electric EZ-6 offers a 373-mile range. You'll pay $19,200 to $20,800 for a 73 kWh N7 in China, placing it neck and neck with the EZ-6 in terms of pricing. Those prioritizing charging speed will favor the N7, which charges from 10% to 80% in 19 minutes, three minutes faster than the EZ-6. Inside, Nissan's N7 contains a 15.6-inch center console display, while the EX-6 features a 14.6-inch infotainment screen. You'll also get more trunk space within an N7 at 17.8 cu ft compared to this Mazda's 12.3 cu ft. The EX-6 offers a bit more curb appeal than the N7 with a sportier look, but the N7's exterior seems to mirror the modern, minimalist EV design sentiment that consumers are after from brands like Tesla. While Nissan hasn't yet confirmed which markets the N7 will first expand to, Japan and Australia are rumored to be frontrunners, according to Carscoops. Other possibilities include Malaysia and limited European markets. In 45 days, Nissan has moved 10,000 N7 units, indicating promising growth from May's 3,034 deliveries. Nissan has historically experienced struggles in the Chinese and American EV markets, so the N7's early momentum is a bigger win for the automaker than it may seem. Drivers in the U.S. can also look forward to Nissan's redesigned Leaf SUV that's debuting in the fall. The 2026 Leaf is expected to cost more than the N7, with an unconfirmed starting price in the mid-$30,000s, but it remains more accessible than many electric SUVs in its class. HDMC works on storm water management plan

Hubballi: The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is crafting a comprehensive storm water management plan, drawing lessons from recent urban flooding. Officials have mapped and categorised water channels, including over 290km of nalas and subnalas across the twin cities. A detailed GIS survey and aerial mapping were completed. The corporation is now awaiting the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) report, which will provide crucial data for targeted reinforcement works and drainage upgrades. This model will provide crucial topographical data, helping officials understand the natural water flow patterns and identify critical points that need immediate intervention. The DEM survey will complement the existing GIS aerial survey data, offering a complete picture of the drainage network. The corporation plans to implement modern engineering solutions to prevent future flooding. This includes widening crucial drainage channels, constructing new stormwater drains, and installing advanced water flow monitoring systems. The officials are also focusing on removing encroachments along the natural water channels to ensure smooth water flow during heavy rainfall. Additionally, the HDMC is planning to create water retention zones and improve existing drainage infrastructure. These measures will help manage excess water during the monsoon season and reduce the risk of urban flooding. The corporation is also considering the implementation of sustainable drainage systems that can effectively handle increasing rainfall intensity due to climate change. Once the DEM report is available, the HDMC will prioritise areas based on their vulnerability to flooding and begin implementing these solutions systematically. The comprehensive approach aims to create a resilient storm water management system that can protect both residents and infrastructure from future flood-related challenges. According to HDMC sources, following the recent unprecedented rainfall in Hubballi city that was 400 times higher than normal in a single day, senior HDMC officials are developing strategies to address future flood-like situations caused by downpours. The officials will draft proposals and present them to elected representatives to secure special funding for implementing these measures on the ground. Vijay Kumar R, superintending engineer, HDMC, explained that currently they possess information about subnalas from a survey conducted by HDMC officials, which indicates 29km of subnalas with a width exceeding 1.5m. He mentioned they are coordinating with the agency that completed the aerial survey for the DEM report, and once received, it would provide precise details about storm water sources and feeders to the subnalas.
