Cate Blanchett Takes On Bootcut Flares With Aplomb — Here's How To Wear Them Now
Cate Blanchett has never been one to stand sartorially still. The Academy Award winner is as expansive with her wardrobe as she is the roles she takes on; as comfortable in a directional piece by a rising design star as a classic gown by a fashion behemoth. FIND OUT MORE AT ELLE COLLECTIVE At last night's Louis Vuitton cruise show in Avignon a new style narrative unfolded for the Australian actor as she opted to wear a pair of leather bootcut trousers by the fashion house. Bootcut trousers, much like their sisters the skinny jean, are a divisive choice. For some of us, we remain scarred by their omnipresence as the flattering choice throughout the Noughties, unable to understand how that fashion cycle has come around full circle so quickly. Or, then there's the idea that they look just a little too neat. Surely a baggier, fuller legged option would feel more modern and more comfortable to wear? These concerns clearly do not effect Blanchett. The Tár actor, who has a long standing relationship with Louis Vuitton and its creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, wore her trousers with a trailing, dramatic caped blouse that fell behind her. The printed blouse was complete with embellishments over the wide shoulders and, with the help of not one, but two belts to tuck it in, the high-pitched waistband was on display. What's worth taking note of here is the details that come together to make the bootleg trousers a convincing option for those of us not living on Planet Hollywood. Firstly, the leather fabrication gives the trousers an edge that moves them away from corporate core or anything too retro, while the choice of a strong-shouldered blouse offers a balance. But, what's most key is the width of the trouser flare. Blanchett's LV pants are just the right amount of width, as they fall neatly over the shoe rather than pooling in great volume. It's an observation worth considering should you wish to try them for yourself. Blanchett's leather trousers weren't the only pair of note she's sported this week. To attend the Chelsea Flower Show in London, the actor left the florals to the horticulturalists and instead wore louche tailoring with a mix-and-match approach. Set against a cornflower blue shirt, she wore a grey blazer over brown trousers and finished the ensemble with requisite white framed sunglasses. Another alt approach to spring to summer dressing that's worth taking note of. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Xiaomi launches its first electric SUV, YU7 in China
Xiaomi EV has officially launched the Xiaomi YU7 , the company's first sport utility vehicle (SUV) and second electric vehicle model following the SU7 sedan. The YU7 is described by the company as a high-performance luxury SUV built from the ground up, rather than an adaptation of its predecessor. The vehicle derives its name from a Chinese phrase meaning 'riding the wind' and is positioned to target urban buyers seeking spacious interiors, smart features and long driving ranges. The car offers a top speed of 253 km/h and the dual-motor four-wheel drive system enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds. Design and dimensions The YU7 retains Xiaomi's design language first seen in the SU7 but introduces its own structural identity. The vehicle measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Among the structural details are a clamshell aluminium bonnet covering an electric front boot of 141 litres, optional 275 mm wide rear tyres, and a drag coefficient of Cd 0.245 — achieved through design optimisation across 40 airflow zones. Xiaomi claims the YU7 delivers a 59 km range improvement due to aerodynamic enhancements. Interior and infotainment The YU7 includes a cabin Xiaomi refers to as a 'dual-zone surround' design. It introduces the Xiaomi HyperVision Panoramic Display, comprising three Mini LED panels integrated into the lower section of the windshield. This setup offers a 1.1-metre wide display with a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. Other interior features include dual zero-gravity front seats with massage functions and power-adjustable rear seats. All seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, and the materials in high-contact areas meet OEKO-TEX Class 1 standards, which are certified for safety even for infants. Storage includes a 678-litre rear boot space, expandable to 1,758 litres with the seats folded, and a 141-litre front boot. Additional storage compartments add up to 71 litres. Powertrain and range The YU7 comes in three versions: Standard, Pro, and Max. The entry-level variant is fitted with a 96.3 kWh battery offering a certified CLTC range of 835 km, reportedly the longest range for an SUV with a battery of this size. The Pro version also uses the 96.3 kWh battery and delivers a range of 760 km, while the Max variant features a 101.7 kWh battery and achieves 770 km. All three versions are built on an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform. Chassis and braking The YU7 includes a double wishbone front and five-link rear independent suspension system, as well as closed dual-chamber air springs with five levels of height adjustment. The SUV has a minimum turning radius of 5.7 metres. Braking performance from 100 km/h to a full stop is 33.9 metres, and the braking system includes Brembo four-piston calipers. The chassis is supported by continuous damping control and Xiaomi's smart chassis management, designed to adjust suspension and ride stiffness based on road conditions. 'Xiaomi YU7 is not simply a taller version of the SU7,' the company said in a media release. 'It represents a completely reimagined SUV from the ground up, delivering an entirely refreshed experience in design, cabin comfort, safety, and smart capabilities.'

With a 2,631-mile route from remote Perth in Western Australia to Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach, the runner claims to have run at a pace of more than two marathons per day. Originally from Ampthill, Bedfordshire, 31-year-old William Goodge had already amassed an impressive résumé of long-distance runs around the world before taking on the dash down under. His highlights have included a run through The Sahara Desert, completing a marathon in every English county over a 30-day period, running the 104 miles around Lake Como in 24 hours, and crossing the 3,175 miles from Los Angeles to New York in just 55 days. In addition to ultramarathons and running across countries, William is also a male model signed by the prestigious Wilhemina agency, and previously played semi-professional rugby. However, his passion for long-distance runs was born through a personal tragedy. READ MORE WORLD RECORDS RUN IT BACK Female runner makes history as she becomes first to ever break marathon mark William first started training for marathons to cope with the loss of his mother to cancer in 2018. Now, he makes his record-breaking journeys in her honour, and to fundraise for the cause. 'I quickly found running was a way for me to deal with that emotional pain, and I took it to an extreme quite quickly after that,' he shared with The West Australian. 'When times get tough, which is quite frequent, I'll think of her and other people who are fighting for their lives who haven't chosen to be in that position. I've chosen to be in the position I'm in, so I feel like I don't have a valid excuse to stop.' The record-breaking run route William's run across Australia was no easy feat. Starting at Cottesloe Beach in Perth on April 15 and finishing along Bondi Beach on May 19, William's route brought him through the country's remote wilderness. Although he has a love for desert runs and celebrated his 31st birthday on this one, William told the BBC his first nine-days through Western and South Australia's desert - the Nullabor Plain - were especially challenging. "It was full-on from start to finish," he said. Throughout his journey, he faced painful experiences ranging from rotting feet and fallen-off toenails to bone aches and hallucinations from sleep deprivation. 'I wasn't sleeping at night and I had deep pain in my bones and things like hip flexors," William said to The Guardian. "Mentally I was tossing and turning throughout the night, hallucinating a little bit, which isn't that fun.' 3 Joined by his father, William Goodge placed a bouquet of lilies at the finish line on Bondi Beach for his late mother, who he lost to cancer in 2018 Credit: EPA After over a month of pushing his physical and mental strength to the limit, he met his father at the finish line in Bondi Beach and laid down a bouquet of lilies in honour of his mother. "I feel like I've turned what is pain into a powerful story, or the tagline I like to use is 'emotion equals energy'," he said in an interview with The West Australian. "If you can channel it towards something, and it doesn't have to be physical, it's a pretty full well from which to pull water and fuel." William also shared his warm-up for the journey with The West Australian: an over-500km run from Tokyo to Osaka in Japan. If his claim is verified by Guinness World Records, he'll have beaten the current record holder, Australia's very own Chris Turnbull, by a full four days.
