Amarnath Yatra
was suspended on Thursday from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps after continuous rainfall triggered a landslide along one of the pilgrimage routes in Kashmir, killing one pilgrim and injuring three others, officials said.
The decision comes after 36 hours of heavy rain in the valley, which led to unsafe conditions along the trekking paths to the 3,880-metre-high shrine. Authorities have also issued a weather alert for continued heavy precipitation in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including the pilgrimage routes.

Restoration work underway on both routes
Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bhiduri told PTI, 'Shri Amarnathji Yatra has been suspended for 17.07.2025 from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps. Continuous heavy rains over the last two days have necessitated restoration work to be carried out on tracks along both routes.'
However, he added that some movement is still allowed under supervision: 'Yatris who stayed at Panjtami camp last night are being allowed to proceed down to Baltal with adequate deployment of BRO and Mountain Rescue Teams.'

Yatra sees 2.47 lakh pilgrims so far
This is the first time this year that the yatra has been suspended from the Jammu side. Since the annual pilgrimage began on July 3, about 2.47 lakh devotees have visited the shrine. The yatra is scheduled to end on August 9.
With the latest death, the toll during this year's yatra has reached 15.

Delhi Metro sees record-breaking ridership on eve of Raksha Bandhan
New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday said it recorded its highest-ever daily ridership on August 8 with 81.87 lakh passenger journeys across all corridors. The previous record was 78.67 lakh journeys on November 18, 2024. Other high ridership days include August 20, 2024, with 77.48 lakh journeys, and February 13, 2024, with 71.09 lakh journeys, officials said. To cater to the festive rush for Raksha Bandhan, DMRC operated 92 additional trips on August 8 and is running 455 extra trips on August 9 to provide more carrying capacity, the corporation said. Over 300 flights delayed at Delhi airport due to inclement weather
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) More than 300 flights were delayed at the Delhi airport on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions. An official said there were no flight diversions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, which witnessed heavy rains. IGIA is the country's largest airport, handling around 1,300 flight movements daily. Over 300 flights were delayed at the airport and some were cancelled. The average delay in flight departures was around 17 minutes, according to data available on flight tracking website In a post on X in the morning, IndiGo said there was heavy downpour over Delhi, causing some temporary disruption to flight schedules. 'If you're travelling today, please be aware of potential delays and allow additional time for your journey, especially with traffic moving slower than usual. 'We're monitoring the situation closely and will get you airborne as soon as possible," it said. Air India, in a post in the morning, said rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi on Saturday. Early on Saturday morning, the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain with lightning and thunderstorms for parts of north, west, south, southeast, and Central Delhi, but later downgraded to a yellow alert, advising people to be aware. In the 24 hours till 8.30 am on Saturday, Delhi's primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded 78.7 mm of rainfall, Pragati Maidan 100 mm, Lodhi Road 80 mm, Pusa 69 mm, and Palam 31.8 mm, according to data shared by the weather department. As of Saturday, 400 roads, including one national highway, remained closed for vehicular movement. In Mandi district alone, 240 roads were blocked, while 100 were shut in neighbouring to a report by PTI, the Auto–Sainj road, NH 305, was blocked near Jahed and Banjar in Kullu district. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported that 704 transformers and 178 water supply schemes had also been local meteorological office issued a yellow warning for heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas on Saturday and Sunday, and an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall from Monday to in the past 24 hours included Naini Devi (112.4 mm), Pandoh (102 mm), Raipur Maidan (74.6 mm), Pachhad (67 mm), Narkanda (66.5 mm), Kasauli (65.5 mm), Kufri (55.2 mm), Nahan (49.3 mm) and Solan (45.6 mm).Since the onset of the monsoon on 20 June, Himachal Pradesh has recorded 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts and 51 major landslides.
