With Olympic dreams, ambitious Yash heads to Barcelona

Panaji: Yash Fadte has returned home after a successful four-year stint in the US, where he graduated from the University of Rochester, led them to its first Hoehn Cup, and won the Skillman Award, which recognised his sportsmanship and skill throughout his college career. Had the squash star accepted an internship offer and subsequently taken up the job, he could have stayed back and lived a comfortable life. A scholarship at Harvard was also turned down. Instead, he opted for the grind of professional squash with the dream of returning to the US, for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. 'Squash is my life, my big goal, and I cannot keep this on hold,' Yash told TOI recently. 'I can take up a job even later in my life.' The 23-year-old's big aim is to take part in the Olympics when squash makes its debut at the biggest sporting spectacle in sports. That's three years from now, and to help him move swiftly towards the goal, the four-time Asian junior medallist is moving to Barcelona. Yash will be based at Barcelona Global Squash, one of Europe's leading squash academies. 'I think it will help me a great deal since the world's best players all train there. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Alarma con cerradura inteligente gratis en Badajoz, instalación en un día Securitas Direct Alarma Ver oferta Undo It's in central Europe, so it's easier for me to travel everywhere and take part in international tournaments. Playing against top players will improve my game,' said Yash. Barcelona Global Squash is recognised as an attractive training destination for young players wishing to make the transition to the Professional Squash Association (PSA) world tour or young professionals already competing on the international circuit who are looking for a professional framework to move their game forward. 'I understand that making it to the Olympics won't be easy, but I don't want to be left with regrets. If I fail, no problem. I want to give it my best shot,' said Yash. As a junior, Yash has won the US Open, French Open, and won medals four times at the Asian championships. Olympics, though, is a different game altogether, with the world's best players vying for a spot. It won't be easy, particularly for someone who is only beginning to compete against the top-ranked players. 'A lot of the players who I was up against as a junior are doing well (in the seniors category) and that provides me hope,' said Yash. India is among the top eight countries in squash. For a place at the Olympics, Yash will face stiff competition at home itself with stars like Ramit Tandon, Abhay Singh, Velavan Senthilkumar and Veer Chotrani, all in the top five. 'Most of India's top squash players are backed by their state govts, industrial houses, or sports foundations. We have no such support. Even state govt has done little to help our cause. If govt just clears what is due to us, or delivers on the promises made in the state assembly, we will be in a much stronger position,' said Yash's father, Dilip, a former sportsperson who played Ranji Trophy matches for Goa, as well as county cricket in England. The assurance in the state legislative assembly was made by chief minister Pramod Sawant in 2020. 'We will consider 10 sportspersons every year (for financial assistance). The case of Yash Fadte will be considered,' Sawant had said while speaking on the congratulatory motion tabled by Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar. Yash has not received a penny. In fact, he wasn't even considered for SAG's scheme for 'achieving excellence in sports at international level' that has a grant of Rs 30 lakh. 'It's now or never,' said Dilip.

CG wins 6 medals at Nat'l Kayaking & Stand-Up Paddling Championship 2025

Raipur: Chhattisgarh secured third place overall at the 3rd National C-Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddling Championship 2025, winning six medals, including two golds by star athlete Sourabh Sahu. Despite this success, the state association has raised concerns over the exclusion of kayaking and canoeing from SAI Raipurs training programmes and has requested reinstatement through a day-boarding scheme. They also have requested permission from RMC to use Telibandha and Budhatalab lakes for athlete training. Chhattisgarh secured a commendable third place overall at the Championship, held in Machilipatnam from June 5-8. The state's contingent clinched a total of six medals, a proud achievement for Chhattisgarh. Sourabh Sahu was the star performer, bagging two gold medals in the C-Kayak K-1 category for both 500 metres and 2 kilometres. He also secured a silver medal in the K-1 200 metres event. In the K-2 500 metres event, Sourabh Sahu and Sourabh Kumar teamed up to win a silver medal, while Puneet Kumar added a bronze in the 500 metres race. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Andhra Pradesh Minister for Mining and Geology, Kollu Ravindra, presented the overall third-place trophy to the Chhattisgarh team. Chhattisgarh Pradesh Kayaking Canoeing Association president Baldeo Singh Bhatia along with secretary Abhijeet Mishra congratulated the athletes. The state association has highlighted a concern: kayaking and canoeing, a sport that has historically brought the most Olympic medals to Chhattisgarh, is not being re-included at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Raipur. The association has written to the RD SAI, DG SAI, and SAI Centre Raipur, stating that all necessary sports equipment for training would be provided by the state association. They emphasised that even if there isn't space at the centre, the sport should be included through a day-boarding scheme to ensure coaches are available and athletes receive regular training. This would enable them to continue winning national and international medals, as in previous years.

After Gary Payton's defensive challenge, Luka Doncic begins new chapter with Los Angeles Lakers focused on hustle and heart

(Image Source - Getty Images) Fresh from a mid-season trade that sent him from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025—a major deal for Anthony Davis and other assets—Luka received some pointed advice from NBA legend Gary Payton at the BUDX NBA House in Mumbai, who reminded him, "Defense is a mindset. " At 26 years old, this five-time All-Star is using every bit of that criticism to fuel a transformation with the Lakers, gearing up to meet the expectations on both ends of the court. Can Doncic's lunch‑buckets work to shift the Lakers defense? Luka's first days in L.A. were a wild experience. He was still scoring like a pro—averaging 28.2 points per game during the 2024–25 season split between Dallas and L.A.—but critics were laser-focused on his defense. After the Lakers' first-round loss to Minnesota, Charles Barkley made it clear, saying Luka "can't guard a chair." Payton and Robert Horry backed him up, suggesting that if Luka wants to change his legacy, he needs to prioritize defense. Luka's reply was a serious promise to transform. In recent weeks, several reports have highlighted a visibly slimmer and fitter version of the Slovenian star, deeply involved in strict diet and workout plans. It was mentioned that his offseason is driven by "disrespect towards his work ethic," and it was "offseason due to the embarrassment" after trade talks and playoff letdowns. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Good News: You May Be Richer Than You Think Undo Another point to note is that the Lakers' front office is all in on this transformation. Team president Rob Pelinka and coach J.J. Redick has compared the process of integrating Luka mid-season to "building an airplane in the sky." They praised his dedication, referring to his presence as a "total energy reset," and confirmed that they will be making summer roster changes to support his two-way game. The fact that they want to hire a new Head Strength & Conditioning Coach with a pay scale of up to $250K tells you something about how much they care about his fitness. With Luka in charge, Lakers veterans and insiders are feeling hopeful. Reddit users pointed out that even if he might not become a "defensive beast," his average defensive effort paired with his offensive skills could turn him into an unstoppable all-star. One fan even said, "He's going to be a monster next year." Also Read: 'I never lose belief' — Tyrese Haliburton's clutch shots and vulnerability have revived Indiana basketball's soul Luka Doncic's time with the Lakers isn't solely about racking up 30-point games—it's about establishing a solid defensive strategy, welcoming a transformative offseason, and dedicating himself to a championship mindset. Following Gary Payton's public challenge and Barkley's harsh comments, Doncic finds himself at a pivotal moment. If this determined, passionate version of Luka remains, the Lakers could gain a lot, and so could his legacy—shaping a future not just as a top scorer, but as the two-way leader that Los Angeles desperately needs.
