Oklahoma man accused of targeting television news weather radar
Anthony Tyler Mitchell, 39, has been booked on suspicion of felony malicious injury to property, burglary and damage to critical infrastructure, Oklahoma City police Capt. Valerie Littlejohn said in a statement.
CBS affiliate KWTV reported that it has video of a man destroying the power supply to the station's NextGen Live radar in northeast Oklahoma City.
The station linked the attack to rhetoric by Veterans On Patrol, an anti-government militia group.
"At this time, we are not able to confirm any connection with him and the group Veterans on Patrol," Littlejohn said.
In an interview with NBC News on Thursday, group founder Michael Lewis Arthur Meyer denied giving any directions to attack weather equipment.
But he welcomed such acts in Oklahoma, insisting that radars and other meteorological equipment are part of a government conspiracy to manipulate weather. The claims of such conspiracy are baseless.
"When we destroy and eliminate over 15 in a state of Oklahoma, your radar maps are going to change big time, and the weather is just going to be completely different over Oklahoma and the surrounding area," he said Thursday.
Government officials said they know about threats on weather equipment.
'NOAA is aware of recent threats against weather radar sites and is working with local and other authorities in monitoring the situation closely," according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration statement.
Police detailed the radar allegations against Mitchell while he was in jail on an unrelated case involving alleged vandalism and violations of an order of protection.
It wasn't immediately clear if Mitchell has an attorney to speak on his behalf.
His father, mother and three brothers didn't immediately return messages left by NBC News seeking their comments.
False conspiracy theories about weather have become increasingly visible online in recent years as extreme weather events continue to affect cities around the U.S. In particular, baseless claims that the government is somehow manipulating or controlling the weather to create such events have gained significant traction, receiving support from numerous Republican lawmakers.
In 2024, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said "they can control the weather," after Hurricanes Milton and Helene, and on Saturday, she announced a bill that she said would prohibit weather control via the release of chemicals into the air.
At least one member of the Trump administration has seemingly nodded to such claims. On Thursday, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said, "Americans have legitimate questions about contrails and geoengineering, and they deserve straight answers,' in a news release announcing a new website about weather manipulation and research on contrails, a natural phenomenon from aircraft or rockets.

Man accused of killing Irish journalist Lyra McKee took part in Republican parade in Glasgow
'The marchers don't hide in any way the fact they are supporting Republican prisoners and they have a bedrock of support in Glasgow." A man accused of the terrorist killing of Irish journalist Lyra McKee took part in a Republican parade in Scotland. Jordan Devine played a large bass drum at the march in Glasgow earlier this month. The 24-year-old was pictured taking part in a paramilitary-style parade through the city centre, with the Roberts/Mellon flute band. Devine has denied in court any involvement in the murder of Lyra, who was struck by a bullet fired at police during a riot in the Creggan area of Derry on the evening of April 18, 2019. The recent Glasgow event was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the internment in Ireland of IRA members. It was organised by the Irish Republican Prisoner Welfare Association (IRPWA). This is alleged to be an offshoot of Saoradh, the political wing of banned terror group the New IRA. One source said: 'The marchers don't hide in any way the fact they are supporting Republican prisoners and they have a bedrock of support in Glasgow. 'There has been a lot of activity around Celtic Park, which the club is uncomfortable with, and the recent event had a fundraising shindig at a bar near the Barras in the east end. 'It is highly unusual that a person accused of such a serious crime would be seen in such a public demonstration and this raised a few eyebrows, even with Republican supporters.' At the head of the march, a banner stating the group's support for political prisoners said: 'No change – from H block to Maghaberry' - referring to the conditions such prisoners are held in. Devine's drum bore a slogan that stated: 'We must see our present fight through to the bitter end.' Another stated: 'Onward to the Republic and the liberation of our people.' Dressed in black shirt and trousers, Devine walked among others who wore military-style black berets. At points in the march they were berated by opponents, despite a large number of supporters following behind. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Reports in Northern Ireland claim Saoradh is collecting thousands of pounds through fundraisers in Scotland, at which dissident republicans are feted as heroes. The Lyra McKee murder trial has been delayed by several adjournments. Nine men from Derry are currently on trial at Belfast Crown Court on charges arising from the riot that culminated in her murder. They all deny the charges. Three of the accused have been charged with murdering Lyra, possessing a firearm and ammunition and other linked offences, including rioting and possessing and throwing petrol bombs. The trio are Paul McIntyre, 57, Peter Cavanagh, 36, and Jordan Devine. The prosecution case is that while none of the three defendants were the gunman who fired the fatal shot, their actions at the scene 'are demonstrative of their involvement in the joint enterprise to possess and fire the weapon with the requisite intent for murder'. The court previously heard 29-year-old Lyra died from a single gunshot wound to the head. She suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene and died despite attempts at resuscitation. The trial is being heard without a jury.

Trump ally saves life of bleeding 11-year-old boy with tourniquet after nasty car wreck
A Republican congressman was shocked when he saw a minivan careen into a semi-truck at full speed on the highway, and luckily for those involved, his Navy SEAL training kicked in. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., saved the life of an 11-year-old boy after witnessing the wreck's fallout and quickly rushing into action. Van Orden, 55, was driving with his wife, Sara, down Interstate 35 near Osceloa, Iowa, on Saturday when he saw the crash in his rearview mirror. 'I'm watching a Dodge Grand minivan disintegrate. It seemed to drift off the road at about 70 miles per hour, more so on the passenger side of the car. My wife, Sarah, was like, what happened? I looked at it, I said, someone just died,' the lawmaker recounted to the Washington Examiner. The Wisconsin Republican and former SEAL Team Four member for over 20 years knew that he had to act. 'I ran to the passenger side, where all the damage was, and there was this 11-year-old kid, and I looked at him, and his calf, which is about as big as my thigh, was completely ripped apart, so I could see his tibia and his fibula, just a big chunk of him bleeding,' Van Orden shared. 'And he had an arterial bleed in his right wrist,' he added. What the former special operator did next harkened back to his days in combat: He returned to his car, retrieved a pair of socks and fastened them to create a makeshift tourniquet. 'By then, probably 10 people had also pulled over to help, I'm like, does somebody have a knife? And they're like, yep. So I cut the seat belts off and then made tourniquets,' the congressman told the outlet. Soon after Van Orden arrived at the scene, other good Samaritans also stopped by to aid the boy. The congressman praised the others alongside him who helped to administer care to the shocked family before first responders arrived. 'Some big old Iowa farm dude, probably 60-something, rips off a windshield wiper for his arm, then another lady there said she was a medic,' Van Orden recalled. 'She wound up grabbing a piece of metal and made a tourniquet on his leg, and then all of us packed him up and got him up into the ambulance.' Time was of the essence, too, as the injured boy was losing an immense amount of blood, the lawmaker said. For miles all around the interstate stretched rural farmland, and without rapid medical attention, 'he would've been gone,' Van Orden told the outlet. 'It took about 10 to 15 minutes. He would've bled to death,' the Republican disclosed. After the scary accident, Van Orden checked in on the boy on Monday at a hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. A photo released by the congressman's office shows him kneeling next to the boy in the hospital. The young man is seen flashing a thumbs-up while lying in his hospital bed as Van Orden, in a trucker hat, holds up what appears to be a puppy. The lawmaker said he was heartened by his fellow Americans' inclination to assist the impacted boy and his family. 'What happened out there is everything that I love about America. So we're in the middle of somewhere, and this happens, and people just start showing up. They start asking, 'Hey, can we do this? Can we do that?' he said.

Trump team releasing ‘largely uncensored' Epstein files to Congress in DAYS as fight over ‘missing client list' drags on
TRUMP'S team has agreed to hand over the largely uncensored Epstein files to congress as it tries to bury theories about a missing client list. Busting open the Epstein files was one of Trump's election promises, but since coming to power he has refused and tried to divert attention from the issue. 7 Ghislaine was found guilty of sex trafficking young girls for Epstein to abuse Credit: PA The President has come under intense pressure - including from voices within his own camp - who argue that if there is nothing to hide then the information should be set free. Some are convinced the files contain a "client list" which could incriminate public figures - and link this with conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein's suicide. Now, the campaigners have secured a major win with the administration agreeing to turning over most of the material held on the disgraced paedophile financier by the end of the week. The government's hand has been forced by Congress's House Oversight Committee, which this month issued a subpoena for "all documents and communications relating or referring to" Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell. This was a rare sign of pushback against the President by Congress. Tuesday was set as the initial deadline, but chairman of the committee James Comer announced he would delay it until Friday in recognition of the Justice Department's cooperation. The Republican representative said: 'Officials with the department of justice have informed us that the department will begin to provide Epstein-related records to the oversight committee this week on Friday." 'There are many records in DoJ's custody, and it will take the department time to produce all the records and ensure the identification of victims and any child sexual abuse material are redacted.' Comer added: 'I appreciate the Trump administration's commitment to transparency and efforts to provide the American people with information about this matter.' The order, seen by US media, requests that the files are uncensored other than material which could identify Epstein's victims, shows child sex abuse or is otherwise redacted by law. EPSMystery orange figure is seen near Epstein's cell night before his death - as police video expert gives bombshell theory Epstein was in prison awaiting a major trial over sex-trafficking charges after decades of sick activity with minors, facilitated by Ghislaine. He was found hanged in his cell in August 2019, but the case has never shaken off speculation that others were involved in his death. Last month, an FBI probe concluded that Epstein committed suicide, and that the much-hyped "client list" does not exist - but even this did not quell the calls for the files to be released. In an effort to put the speculation to bed, the Justice Department released around 11 hours of CCTV footage from inside the facility where Epstein died, including the point his body was discovered. 7 James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, said the Department of Justice is cooperating with the subpoena Credit: Getty Images - Getty But a mysterious "lost minute" was noticed in the video soon after release, when the clock ticked from 11:58:58 straight to midnight - skipping out 62 seconds. Attorney General Pam Bondi explained this was caused by a glitch in the prison's outdated system - and claimed the same minute is missing from footage every night. Then it was revealed that the video was actually made of two clips stitched together - debunking the claim it was the "full raw" file. Further analysis showed that one clip had been trimmed before release - and the data the first clip was actively cut at the 11:58:58 mark. The FBI's conclusion that the client list is fictional directly rails against what administration officials have previously said. 7 Prince Andrew was accused of having sex with Virginia Giuffre, then 17, facilitated by Epstein Credit: PA 7 The CCTV footage of Epstein's final hours was in fact missing almost three minutes Credit: US Department of Justice In an interview on Fox News in February, Pam Bondi herself said the client list was "sitting on my desk right now to review." She later attempted to clarify that she had meant the Epstein file in its entirety. Many within Trump's MAGA movement allege that the files about the paedophile's crimes have been withheld to protect big names. US House Speaker Mike Johnson said he supported the release of the files. Speaking on a podcast with Benny Johnson, the Republican said: "It's a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide it. "I'm for transparency," he added. 7 7 Other conservative figures have since demanded to see all the documents related to Epstein's crimes. Lauren Boebert, another conservative Republican said a special counsel should be appointed to investigate the financier's crimes if more Epstein files were not released. And Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana said the voters expect more accountability. Even Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, a Fox News host, has called for "more transparency" from the administration. All the while, Trump has rejected the suggestion the files contain anything of note. He said last month: "I don't understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It's pretty boring stuff."
