Over 70% completion achieved in dual-carriageway from Duqm Airport Roundabout to Ras Markaz
Duqm: The Duqm Airport Roundabout to Ras Markaz dual-carriageway project has surpassed 70% completion, with several vital works finalised, positioning the project to soon facilitate effective traffic flow.
The project features a dual-carriageway comprising two lanes in each direction over a 42.9-kilometre stretch, along with 11.5 kilometres of subsidiary roads, including access routes to roundabouts and connections to the airport area.
The road will link storage tanks at Ras Markaz with the Duqm Airport Roundabout, passing alongside the Green Industries Zone and several ongoing projects. It will also connect to the populated village of Dhahar and the Salalah route, enhancing integration among strategic projects in the southern sector of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad).
Eng. Salim bin Juma Al-Ghanbousi, Senior Quantity Surveying and Contracts Specialist, stated that the project's cost exceeds OMR57.6 million. It forms part of Sezad's vision to develop robust infrastructure supporting sustainable growth, with strong commitment to executing the project to the highest quality standards while adhering to the scheduled timeline.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he explained that the project includes critical works such as constructing wadi drainage culverts, creating future utility corridors (for water, electricity, and communications), relocating damaged fibre-optic cables, and providing necessary protection for Duqm Refinery's oil pipelines.
Eng. Mohammed bin Salim Al-Tamimi, one of the project engineers at Oman Company for the Development of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Tatweer), reported that over 90% of works on Main Roads 1 and 2 have been completed, along with more than 90% of concrete construction works. Asphalt layer works have exceeded 70% completion.
In his statement to ONA, he noted that all surface water drainage culverts have been fully implemented. The project also includes installing smart lighting poles along the entire route.

Tokyo: The Japanese government on Friday approved a plan to enhance the disaster resilience of the country's infrastructure over the next five years, with the project expected to cost more than 20 trillion yen ($139 billion). Focusing on measures to address aging infrastructure, the plan specifies 326 measures to be taken by government bodies from fiscal 2026 through 2030, while regional authorities bear part of the costs. All sewer pipes with corrosion or damage that could lead to accidents will be repaired by fiscal 2030. The repair rate of the approximately 92,000 bridges managed by the central and local governments that require urgent attention will be raised from 55 per cent in fiscal 2023 to 80% in fiscal 2030, with the aim of full completion in fiscal 2051. Meanwhile, 5.8 trillion yen will be used for disaster prevention infrastructure, including erosion control dams to prevent landslides and river embankments amid increasingly severe flooding caused by climate change.

Pact to advance urban air mobility in Oman
MUSCAT, JUNE 6 AeroVecto, an Oman-based startup specialising in sustainable air mobility solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Romanian-based LYNEports, a digital planning platform for advanced air mobility infrastructure, to support the rollout of hybrid electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aviation services in Oman and the wider GCC region. The partnership is set to take advanced air mobility services, currently in its nascency in Oman, to the next level. A number of Omani startups, in partnership with key players in the global international, are gearing up to introduce uncrewed air mobility services for, among other fields, cargo deliveries, passenger transportation, ambulance services, medical deliveries and even disaster relief. AeroVecto is credited with developing Shuttle, a hybrid eVTOL aircraft purposely built for mass public transportation. According to the company, the high-capacity aircraft will enhance current ground-based public transport by enabling convenient point-to-point travel. With a focus on passenger volume and comfort, Shuttle aims to revolutionise urban and intercity mobility, introducing a new era of clean, efficient and scalable air transport. Through the partnership, LYNEports will assist in planning and simulating AeroVecto's Shuttle network, ensuring each site meets aviation-grade safety standards, operational viability and regulatory requirements.
