Lottery player wins with numbers '6-6-6' — then sets record with historic Michigan prize
A Michigan Lottery player won by playing numbers that some avoid at all costs, used some of his winnings to buy more tickets and won a record-breaking jackpot prize of over $2 million.
The winner, who remained anonymous, said he played the numbers 6-6-6 on multiple Daily 3 tickets and won $500, according to a March 24 Michigan Lottery news release.
When he saw the Jackpot Slots Millionaire prize growing, he decided to press his luck.
He spent $100 on Fast Cash tickets at King's Corner Market, a convenience store in Owasso, which is about a 90-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
'As soon as the clerk handed me the tickets, I ran my eyes over them to see if I had won anything,' he told lottery officials.
The $2.39 million prize left him 'absolutely shocked,' according to the lottery. The previous Fast Cash record of $1.84 million was won in November 2019.
'We started celebrating in the store and then I got to make the best phone call I've ever made to my family and friends to tell them the news!' he said. 'Everyone has been so happy for me and my wife!'
He said he plans to pay bills and invest the rest of his winnings, according to the Michigan Lottery.
