Michigan woman wins nearly $800K on lottery ticket she bought on Fourth of July camping trip

An Oakland County woman turned a Fourth of July camping trip in northern Michigan into a massive payday when she won a nearly $800,000 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery. The 67-year-old woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, won $792,990 by matching the Fantasy 5 numbers in the July 3 drawing: 08-19-27-31-39. "I went up north on a camping trip for Fourth of July weekend and bought a Fantasy 5 ticket while I was at the store," said the player in a news release. "The next morning, on the Fourth of July, I checked the winning numbers on and was so excited when I found out I won the big jackpot! I told some of the people at the surrounding campsites, so it was fun to celebrate with everyone." The Oakland County resident purchased her winning ticket at the Meijer store in Gaylord. With her winnings, the lucky winner plans to start college funds for her grandchildren, make home repairs and take her family to Disney. Each Fantasy 5 play is $1, and for an extra $1 per play, players can add EZmatch to a ticket, giving players the chance to win $500 instantly. Players can add Double Play to Fantasy 5 tickets for an extra $1 per play, which affords them a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the Double Play drawing, according to the Michigan Lottery. Drawings are held every night at 7:29 p.m. Tickets can be bought until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.

Michigan Lottery player takes $865,124 jackpot in Lucky Clover game

A Tuscola County woman has won a $865,124 jackpot in the Michigan Lottery Lucky Clover game with what she originally thought was a losing ticket. The lottery announced the win Wednesday, saying the ticket was purchased June 28 at Millington Inn on State Road in Millington, near Saginaw. The 65-year-old woman, who chose to remain anonymous, recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. "I buy a Fast Cash ticket almost every day, and I bought this one while I was out to eat one night," the player said. "I didn't think I won anything, but I asked the bartender to scan the ticket for me. She said it came back with a message to file a claim, so I would have to call the Lottery office Monday morning to figure out what's going on. "The next morning, I got a call from the bartender telling me they sold a jackpot winning Fast Cash ticket the night before, so to look my ticket over again because that may be why the message to file a claim came up. My first thought was that she was lying to me because I thought it was impossible that I may have won. When I looked my ticket over again and saw I really was the big winner, I couldn't help but cry!" The Michigan Lottery Fast Cash games are a series of instant-win games, with a progressive jackpot that increases until someone wins it. The game's tickets range in cost from $2 per play up to $30 per play.

Michigan Lottery player has a $1 million Powerball prize waiting

A $1 million prize is awaiting a Michigan Lottery player who made an online entry to Monday's Powerball drawing. The Michigan Lottery said the lucky player matched five white balls in Monday's drawing to win $1 million: 08-12-45-46-63. The red number was 24. "A lucky Michigander woke up this morning to news that they won $1 million playing Powerball at said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. "Winning $1 million would be a dream come true for many Lottery players, and I want to be the first to congratulate the player on their big win!" Although there was a "match 5" winner in Michigan and a "match 5 plus power play" winner in Arizona, no one won the Powerball jackpot that required a perfect match on the ticket to all white numbers and the additional red number. All lower-tier prizes in the Powerball game are set amounts. The jackpots grow until someone wins the top prize. The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday night, with an estimated jackpot of $264 million. Tickets are $2 in most participating states, including Michigan. A "power play" option that can boost the lower-level prize amounts is an additional $1. Michigan's winner should contact the Lottery's Player Relations division at 844-917-6325 to make arrangements to claim the prize. Powerball prizes must be claimed within one year from the date of the drawing.

Michigan man wins $500,000 lottery prize due to unavailable ticket

A Michigan man won a $500,000 lottery prize after the store he visited was sold out of the scratch-off ticket he originally intended to buy. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo July 10 (UPI) -- A Michigan man won a $500,000 lottery prize thanks to his local store being sold out of the ticket he had originally intended to buy. The 57-year-old Tuscola County man told Michigan Lottery officials he had a specific scratch-off game in mind when he visited the Speedway on West Caro Road in Caro. "I stopped at the gas station to buy a Triple Red 777s ticket, but they were sold out, so I told the cashier to give me a Detroit Tigers ticket instead," the player recalled. "It was hard to believe when I saw I'd won $500,000, but after looking the ticket over several times, I told myself it must be real." The man said he needed a second opinion to fully believe his luck. "I signed the ticket and took it back into the store to have the cashier check it. After she scanned it, she handed it back and said: 'Looks like you have to go to Lansing for this one!' Winning $500,000 is an answered prayer and still hasn't fully sunk in." The winner said his prize money will go toward helping his family and investing.

Lottery player was afraid to check MI ticket. When he did, he ‘started screaming'

A 50-year-old man bought a store's last few tickets for a Michigan lottery game, then discovered he won a huge top prize. The Wayne County man, who chose to remain anonymous, won big playing the $4,000,000 Winner game, state lottery officials said in a July 9 news release. When stopping into a market in Ann Arbor, the lucky player noticed none of the three jackpot prizes, each worth $4 million, had been won — so he bought the store's last three tickets for a shot to win. At first, he scratched off only the barcodes on the tickets, then scanned them with the lottery app, officials said. One of the tickets triggered a message indicating it was a winner — but how much, the app didn't say. 'One of the tickets came back with a message to file a claim, so I knew I had to have won one of the big prizes, but I was too nervous to scratch the ticket,' he told lottery officials. 'The next day, once I calmed down a bit, I scanned the ticket on the Michigan Lottery app and started screaming when $4 million came up on the screen! It was unreal.' The man went to lottery headquarters in Lansing and picked up his winnings, officials said, adding that he opted for a $2.7 million lump sum payment instead of the full amount paid out in annual installments. 'With his winnings, he plans to pay off his home, take a trip, and then save the remainder,' officials said.
