Heaping praises on the player on Sky Sports Cricket, former India batting all-rounder and ex-coach of the national cricket team Ravi Shastri said that Gill is here to stay for a "long time".
When asked about who the rising star of Indian cricket is, Shastri said, "No question, Shubman Gill. He'll be around for a long, long time because we've seen what kind of series he's had here. I think he's only 25 years of age, and as you know, with this exposure, he'll get even better."
"He's right up there. He'll be up there. He's composed. He's very regal. He's got that, you know, when you look at him, he's something regal about him. The way he bats, he's very easy on the eye, very fluent and has the ability to play the long innings," he added.
This year, Gill has scored 1234 runs in 20 innings (14 matches) at an average of 64.94, with six centuries, the highest by any batter this year and two fifties across all forms of the game. He is the second-highest run-getter this year, with England's Ben Duckett at the top with 1290 runs in 23 matches and 27 innings at an average of 47.77, with three centuries and eight fifties. His best score is 165.
Among Indians, Gill's distant rivals are KL Rahul (741 runs in 14 matches and 19 innings at an average of 46.31, with two centuries and two fifties) and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (605 runs in 13 matches and 17 innings at an average of 67.22, with a century and five fifties).

The duo aggregated 578 in the qualification round to be placed fifth going into the eight-team medal round. Suruchi, who has been on song this season, winning four World Cup medals, started the qualification round with a perfect 100 in the opening series, faltered in the second to score 94, and ended the preliminary round with a 98. Chaudhary had series scores of 95, 96, and 95. Earlier at the event, Bhaker achieved a score of 219.7 in the eight-women finals, securing third place. China's Qianke Ma won the gold medal with a score of 243.2, narrowly surpassing Korean Jiin Yang, who took the silver with 241.6. The 23-year-old Bhaker advanced to the final by finishing third in the qualifications, scoring 583. India's Asia Cup 2025 Squad If Only IPL 2025 Performances Were Considered
After much contemplation and some bold decisions, India's Asia Cup 2025 squad was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar on Tuesday. With T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav in company, Agarkar left many surprised as he confirmed the return of Shubman Gill to India's T20I squad, in the capacity of a vice-captain. The squad selection didn't come from a single school of thought, with both continuity, form and potential being considered while naming the 15-member squad. India head coach Gautam Gambhir, however, had once said that the country's shortest format team should be based on performances in the IPL. If only IPL 2025 was considered for Asia Cup selection, here's how the 15-member roster might have looked: Sai Sudharsan - Opener, anchor (759 runs, SR 156.17): He was also the Orange Cap winner in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. However, Sudharsan doesn't even feature in India's 5-member reserve team for the Asia Cup. Abhishek Sharma - Opener, aggressive, part-time bowler (439 runs, SR 193.39): Abhishek Sharma managed to fend off competition by Yashasvi Jaiswal to seal a spot in India's 15-member Asia Cup squad. The move, however, is a little risky as he isn't as accustomed to playing in the middle-order in T20Is as he is in other formats. Jitesh Sharma (WK) - Wicketkeeper, finisher (261 runs, SR 176.35): Jitesh too beats Samson on the basis of a healthier strike-rate and ability to bat in the lower middle-order, which the team would need, based on other selections. Jasprit Bumrah - Pacer (18 wickets, economy 6.67): No justification needed, Bumrah walks into any team in the world, in any format. Prasidh Krishna - Pacer (25 wickets, Eco 8.27): A better option than Harshit Rana, based on IPL 2025 show, for the Asia Cup squad. Prasidh was also the Purple Cap winner in the T20 league this season. Arshdeep Singh - Pacer (21 wickets, SR 8.88): Second-highest wicket-taker among Indians in IPL 2025, Arshdeep Singh is a no-brainer for India for the Asia Cup in UAE.
