Ather Energy installs over 430 fast charging points in TN to promote EV adoption

Chennai, Aug 12 (PTI) Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy has achieved a milestone by establishing over 430 fast charging points in Tamil Nadu, aimed at promoting EV adoption through convenient charging access to customers. The company has set up the Ather Grid fast charging points across 38 cities of the state. Besides, Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS) have also been established in 50 places. The LECCS facility developed by Ather, is open for industry-wide adoption and allows different brands of light electric vehicles to use the same charging facilities. Ather Energy Chief Business Officer Ravneet Singh Phokela said Tamil Nadu has been one of the earliest markets ever since we entered the State in 2019. The company has been investing in building a reliable charging network, he said. 'Charging has often been seen as one of the key barriers, and it is something we have focused on solving from day one. Crossing 400 fast chargers in Tamil Nadu is a reflection of that commitment." he said in a company statement on Tuesday. 'As our retail footprint grows, the charging network will continue to scale alongside it, making EV ownership truly seamless," he added. In Tamil Nadu, as of June 30, 2025 the company has 44 Experience Centres and 42 services centres. Across India, Ather operates over 3,300 Ather grid fast charging points, the company said. Gold ETFs inflow declines 40 pc to Rs 1,256 cr in July

Agency: New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Inflow in Gold Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) declined 40 per cent month-on-month to Rs 1,256 crore in July, weighed down by concerns over high gold prices, particularly with ongoing news around tariffs. Despite this drop, July's numbers mark the third consecutive month of positive flows. Santosh Joseph, CEO, Germinate Investor Services, said that gold has been a difficult investment for investors to fully gauge, despite having delivered a strong performance over the last two years. Month after month, there is growing concern about whether investors are buying at elevated levels. 'Investors are still grappling with how to position gold in their portfolios. There is a genuine concern about high gold prices, particularly with ongoing news around tariffs. While many investors want some allocation to gold as a hedge, they remain cautious given the current price levels," he added. According to data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), Gold ETFs attracted a net inflow of Rs 1,256 crore in July, a moderation from Rs 2,081 crore registered in June. This came following a net inflow of Rs 292 crore in May. Before this, the category witnessed a net outflow of Rs 6 crore in April and Rs 77 crore in March. With this, Gold ETFs have garnered cumulative inflows of over Rs 9,277 crore in this year (January-July). This indicates product growing role as a strategic allocation in portfolios, both for wealth preservation and as a counterbalance to risk assets. The inflow led to an expansion in the category's assets under management, rising 4.4 per cent to Rs 67,634 crore in July from Rs 64,777 crore in the preceding month. Nehal Meshram, Senior Analyst – Manager Research, Morningstar Investment Research India, believes that the sustained demand reflects gold's continued appeal as a portfolio diversifier amid lingering macro uncertainties, including volatile global interest rate expectations and geopolitical risks. 'While prices have remained elevated, investor interest appears supported by central bank buying trends globally and persistent concerns over equity market volatility. Domestic investors are also likely viewing gold allocations as a tactical hedge ahead of key economic data releases and policy decisions in the coming months," she added. In the local markets, gold of 99.5 per cent purity dipped Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,01,100 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes) on Tuesday. Gold, with its superlative performance over the last few years, has garnered substantial investor interest, and the consistent increase in folio numbers serves as a testament to its attractiveness. The folio numbers in gold ETFs rose by 2.15 lakh to 78.69 lakh in the month under review from 76.54 lakh in June. This suggests a growing inclination among investors towards funds related to gold. Gold ETFs, which aim to track the domestic physical gold price, are passive investment instruments that are based on gold prices and invest in gold bullion. In short, Gold ETFs are units representing physical gold, which may be in paper or dematerialised form. One gold ETF unit is equal to 1 gram of gold and is backed by physical gold of very high purity. They combine the flexibility of stock investments and the simplicity of gold investments. John Abraham writes to CJI, calls for review of SCs directive on stray dogs

Agency: New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Actor John Abraham on Tuesday wrote a letter to Chief Justice B R Gavai, urging a review and modification of the recent Supreme Court directive ordering removal of street dogs from the Delhi NCR region. The letter came a day after the Supreme Court directed the authorities to permanently relocate all strays from streets to shelters 'at the earliest". The 52-year-old, who was named the first honorary director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, said dogs are not strays but rather part of the community and loved by many. 'I hope you will agree that these are not 'strays' but community dogs – respected and loved by many, and very much Delhiites in their own right, having lived in the region as neighbours to humans for generations," Abraham said. The actor stated that the directive is in conflict with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, and the apex court's past judgements on the issue which have consistently 'upheld a methodical sterilisation programme". 'The ABC Rules prohibit the displacement of dogs, instead mandating their sterilisation, vaccination, and return to the very areas they inhabit. Where the ABC programme is implemented earnestly, it works," he said, giving the example of cities like Jaipur and Lucknow. He added, 'Delhi can achieve the same. During sterilisation, dogs are vaccinated against rabies, and sterilisation results in calmer animals, fewer fights and bites, as they have no puppies to protect. Because community dogs are territorial, they also deter unsterilised, unvaccinated dogs from entering their areas." According to the actor, removing street dogs from public spaces doesn't guarantee a solution to the issue. 'Delhi has an estimated 10 lakh dogs. It is neither practical nor humane to shelter or relocate them all, and removal only opens the door for unfamiliar, unsterilised, and unvaccinated dogs to move in—leading to greater competition, territorial disputes, and public health risks. 'I respectfully request a review and modification of this judgment in favour of the lawful, humane, and effective ABC approach, which safeguards public health while honouring the constitutional values of compassion and coexistence, a stand the Supreme Court has consistently upheld since 2015." On Monday, the supreme court directed all the strays to be removed and put in shelters by the Delhi government and civic bodies of Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad. A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan noted that there was an 'extremely grim" situation due to stray dog bites resulting in rabies, particularly among children. The court has directed Delhi authorities to start with creating shelters for around 5,000 canines within six to eight weeks.
