Greenbriar Children's Center temporarily suspends services
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A spokesperson for the Greenbriar Children's Center has shared that the center will temporarily suspend all Savannah services.
The move comes in an effort to restructure the organization, which has been open for 75 years, to a model that will sustain the organization for the long-term.

Greenbriar was founded with the intent of providing services leading to healthy development in children. It also operates over 70 Project Safe Place sites in the Savannah area.
The Board hopes to provide the community with a long-term plan for reopening the center in the coming months.
In the meantime, the source says they will work with those impacted to connect them with other available services.

Coyote sightings increasing on Tybee Island
TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) – Coyote sightings are increasing on Tybee Island since WSAV first reported in early June. 'I was shocked to pull up on this animal, this beautiful wild animal,' said Stu Putman, who sent us a video taken June 2 of a coyote trotting around his North End neighborhood in the nighttime. The animal is being seen mostly on the north side of the island. 'A couple of days ago I was driving home and pulled into my neighborhood, which is on the North End, and there it was,' said Putman. 'I thought it was a dear because they have very long noses, and their ears are on top of their heads like a dear, but from the video, you can see it's a coyote.' As chatter is increasing about the recent sightings Putman alerted his neighbors. 'I'm in a homeowner's association on the North End, and I put out an email, and I attached the video, and most of the emails that came back were worried neighbors,' he said. Although city officials told WSAV the animal is not a threat, though people and pets should still keep a distance, the chatter is hinted with unease. 'I would say on average Tybee is a little worried about having coyotes on the island,' said Putman. In 2023 when coyotes were inhabiting the island in packs, the city's hired trapper eventually took them to a DNR approved wildlife preserve after the city faced backlash for trapping and euthanizing them to prevent rabies transmission. The relocation was considered a 'last resort.' Tybee Island Mayor Brian West told WSAV Friday that the city currently does not have a plan for coyotes considering the recent sightings. Savannah becomes an official Bee City USA
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The city of Savannah has officially joined the national network of 'Bee City USA' communities. This designation reflects Savannah's ongoing commitment to sustainability, urban biodiversity and environmental stewardship. To celebrate the designation, Bee City Savannah will host its inaugural Pollinator Palooza, a citywide celebration, during National Pollinator Week which runs June 16 through 22. The week will conclude with a free community festival on Saturday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Daffin Park. Pollinator Palooza will feature educational workshops, garden installations, pollinator-inspired menus at local restaurants, youth activities, public art and a community science initiative, all highlighting the critical role pollinators play in local ecosystems. Savannah has partnered with the Foster Beelief Foundation and BEEnevolent, led by community advocate Sade Shofidiya. Other community partners include Savannah Bee Company, Fruitful Futures, Common Thread, Flora & Fauna, Freedom Fellowship Church, The Beach Institute, Keevy's Beevies and Good Clean Fun. The Savannah Pollinator Preservation Committee has been designated as the facilitating body for Bee City Savannah. You are encouraged to get involved by attending meetings, volunteering and supporting pollinator-friendly efforts across the city. What is Bee City USA? Bee City USA is an initiative of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. The program provides a framework for municipalities to improve pollinator habitat through native plantings, pesticide reduction and community engagement. Join the second annual ‘Juneteenth Walk to the River'
