Join the second annual ‘Juneteenth Walk to the River'
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – You're invited to join Savannah Mayor Van Johnson and the City of Savannah as they host the second annual 'Juneteenth Walk to the River' commemorating the federal holiday and the legacy of freedom.
The walk takes place next Thursday, June 19, at Wells Park at MLK Blvd and W. 38th St.
It will end at Plant Riverside, with a celebratory walk along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The event is free and open to everyone. Transportation will be provided for those with mobility challenges.

Public pool reopened after closing last summer
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— After a public pool in Lackawanna County was closed last summer, it's back open this year with some renovations. The ribbon cutting was held at Connell Park pool in Scranton. The pool has been in the area since the 1970s and became dilapidated. The city allocated 1.1 million for the repairs, money that came out of the American Rescue Plan Act. 'In these past five years, we've been able to invest over $26 million in recreational facilities throughout the whole city. All of our neighborhoods from Connell pool here in southside to a cricket pitch in center city, all sorts of dog parks that are new, the pool facilities, the splash pads. There's something for everyone here in Scranton and we're excited to keep building on the amenities,' expressed mayor Paige Cognetti. Connell Park is one of three outdoor pools open this summer in the Electric City. The pool will officially open Saturday morning and will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m. through labor day. Community event looks to combat food insecurity in Vigo County
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An event taking place next weekend, will promote a program combating food insecurity in Vigo County. On June 18, a community event called 'Twilight in the Garden' will be held at the Vigo County Fairgrounds. The event will feature guest speakers, teaching how you can plant your garden to benefit pollinators in the area. It will also include a tour of the fairgrounds Giving Garden. 'This event is really important to showcase the garden and everything it does for our community but also encourage others to work with their community partners and get out there and be active in the community,' said Tabby Flinn, Agriculture and Natural Resource Educator. Fort Defiance to host ‘Frontier Life' event
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — You can take a walk through history at one Clarksville historical site. On Saturday, June 28, you can visit Fort Defiance in Clarksville and do just that at 'Frontier Days,' which used to be branded as 'Sevier Days.' From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., community members can see what life was like for settlers in the late 1700s through hands-on demonstrations of musket firing, axe throwing and more. Additionally, there will be several tools and weapons on display used during the time. Historical Interpreter at Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center William Parker said that a lot of history happened at the site before the Civil War, and they don't want the history to be forgotten. 'The Civil War only lasted four years,' Parker said. 'People have been living up here on this hilltop for thousands of years.
