"Sonam's Innocent": Family Of Indore Woman Who Surrendered After Husband's Murder

The father of Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur after she surrendered to allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband in Meghalaya, said that his daughter is "lying" and is "being framed". Her family has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the case.
"Sonam is lying. She is not behind the murder. She is in deep shock. She is innocent. Sonam is being framed. We demand a CBI probe," her father told NDTV.
Sonam 's mother, Sangita, expressed gratitude that her daughter was found alive, but wants to know who was responsible for the murder of her son-in-law, Raja Raghuvanshi.
"I am thankful that she has been found, but the pain still remains. Now, we just want to know who killed Raja. She has been found, but we are still in grief over Raja's murder. There's sorrow even though she has returned, we lost Raja. The investigation will reveal who did what. The allegations are being made about Sonam, and now, unfortunately, we will have to face all of it," she told news agency IANS.

Sonam, the 'missing' wife of the Indore-based businessman who was killed during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was found in an unconscious state on Saturday night at a 'dhaba' in Ghazipur. She was taken to the Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police, and was subsequently arrested.
Officials said that Sonam allegedly orchestrated the murder of her husband by hiring contract killers.
The police also arrested three more accused in overnight raids. While one person was found in Uttar Pradesh, the other two were arrested from Indore. The accused have told the police that they were hired by Sonam to kill her husband.
The newly-wed couple, Raja and Sonam, had arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon and were exploring various locations when they went missing on May 23. A scooter that they had rented was found abandoned at Sohrarim a day after they went missing. Ten days later, Raja's body was recovered from a deep gorge beneath the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang. A machete, suspected to be the murder weapon, was also recovered.
At the time, Sonam had also gone missing, prompting a multi-state search.

Imphal, Manipur Police on Monday said Ashem Kanan Singh, arrested by the CBI a day before, was a former head constable in the state police and was terminated from service in March due to involvement in criminal activities. Earlier, NIA arrested three insurgents in a case related to a deadly attack on security forces that had killed two police commandos and injured several others in Moreh, Tengnoupal district, on January 17, 2024. "One Thangminlen Mate, a member of Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal insurgent outfit, was arrested on May 19, 2025, in Assam's Silchar. Two other accused, part of the team which executed the deadly attack, namely Kamginthang Gangte, a member of the Kuki National Army , and Hentinthang Kipgen @ Thangneo Kipgen, associated with the Village Volunteers group in Churachandpur district, were arrested by the NIA on June 6 from Manipur," police said. Following the arrests, protests and rallies were held, and a shutdown was imposed by some civil society organisations in Tengnoupal and Moreh and Tengnoupal districts on June 6 and 7. 2008 Mumbai attacks: Delhi court allows Tahawwur Rana to talk to kin over phone
A Delhi court on Monday allowed jailed 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana to speak to his family members over a phone call. Special Judge Chander Jit Singh allowed Rana the reprieve only one time. The call would be in line with the jail manual and under the supervision of the Tihar Jail authority, the judge said. The court also called for a fresh report on Rana's health within 10 days from Monday. A report from the jail authorities clarifying their stand on whether Rana should be allowed regular phone calls was also directed to be filed by the judge. The 64-year-old Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman is currently in judicial custody. Rana, a close associate of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks main conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, a US citizen, was brought to India after the US Supreme Court on April 4 dismissed his review plea against his extradition. Rana is accused of conspiring with Headley and operatives of designated terrorist organisations Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HUJI) along with other Pakistan-based co-conspirators, to carry out the three-day terror siege of India's financial capital.
