On Day 3 of the 2025 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs remained active on the trade market, negotiating with the Pittsburgh Steelers to move up to the No. 156 pick in the fifth round.
In exchange for the No. 156 selection, Kansas City sent Pittsburgh pick Nos. 164 and 226 in the fifth and seventh rounds, respectively.
Ultimately, the Chiefs chose Oregon Ducks linebacker Jeffrey Bassa with the No. 156 pick to add a valuable prospect to the middle of their defense.
Kansas City entered the 2025 NFL draft with three selections in the seventh round, so Chiefs general manager Brett Veach still has two picks to play with on Day 3.
While this move isn't likely to be remembered as being particularly consequential for the defending AFC champions, Kansas City's addition of Bassa may be just what the Chiefs need to revitalize their defense next season.
Stay tuned to Steelers Wire to see who Pittsburgh selects with the picks it received from Kansas City in this trade.

Aaron Rodgers' Gesture Toward Young Packers Fan Turns Heads
Aaron Rodgers' Gesture Toward Young Packers Fan Turns Heads originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's excitement surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers entering the 2025 season due to the signing of free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year, $13.65 million contract. Advertisement Of course, in recent years, much of the discourse among fans and members of the media surrounding the quarterback suggests that he's developed into somewhat of a diva throughout his career. However, on Wednesday, a video originally posted to TikTok showed the newest member of the Steelers kneeling to talk to a young Green Bay Packers fan wearing Rodgers' iconic No. 12 jersey, and eventually signing it. Rodgers's exit with the Packers wasn't the smoothest, as they drafted his replacement, Jordan Love, two years early. So, many fans are praising him for still showing such kindness to the young fan. Advertisement "Around the GB area, he is legendary for being a good guy to people that would run into him," said one X user. "They can never make me hate you, 12," said another. "No amount of gaslighting in the world will ever get me to dislike this man. Favorite Packer of all time and idk if that could ever be changed," a third added. A fourth said, "I've never understood the Aaron Rodgers hate. Not in my house. Feel really fortunate we had him for as long as we did. Wishing him nothing but success in Pittsburgh! #SteelersNation." "He has always been great! True Packer fans know it. Greatest Packer of ALL TIME!" A fifth continued. Advertisement "He gets such a bad rap but he's a good guy, smart as hell and one of absolute best to ever play the game. #12," said another. Pavely-Imagn Images Of course, 2025 with the Steelers is likely the final ride for Rodgers, because during a Tuesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," he was asked if he would be done once the season concluded, to which he responded, "I'm pretty sure this is it." If that's the case, he will be leaving behind a rich career that features a total of 10 Pro Bowl appearances, four MVP Awards, four First-Team All-Pro selections and one Super Bowl. George Pickens backs out of hosting his own youth football camp
Even after the Pittsburgh Steelers traded him to the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver George Pickens was all set to host the George Pickens Youth Football Camp, which was scheduled for Saturday, June 28 in Pittsburgh. Then he pulled out. In a Tuesday email to families that had registered for the camp, TruEdge Sports — the company that coordinates youth camps for several NFL and college athletes — notified families that Pickens had "walked back on his word." The former Steelers' representation notified TruEdge that he was "no longer interested in attending the camp" with his name on it. In the email, TruEdge Sports told families that they had reached out to confirm Pickens' participation shortly after his trade to Dallas was announced. At the time, they wrote, they "were promptly assured that George remained committed to the camp and intended to show up for the families who had registered." GEORGE PICKENS: Former Steelers teammate Russell Wilson calls new Cowboys WR 'misunderstood' Instead, a couple of weeks before the day of the camp, Pickens informed TruEdge that he'd no longer be attending. "Let us be very clear: we are deeply frustrated by this decision and the position it has placed all of us in," TruEdge wrote in their email. "Our team at TruEdge was fully prepared to host a camp this Saturday because we were led to believe George would follow through on his commitment. His sudden decision to back out not only reflects a disappointing lack of accountability, but also shows a disregard for the families and children who were excited to meet him." TruEdge's email was not all bad news. The company went on to say that they were committed to holding a youth camp in Pittsburgh over the summer, though it would be postponed to July. COWBOYS NEWS: QB Dak Prescott wants Super Bowl championship: Legacy 'be damned' TruEdge also said they were able to find an NFL player to replace Pickens: Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth. The company added that they were also in talks with multiple other Steelers players to make appearances at the camp in late July, since it now nearly overlaps with the start of Pittsburgh's preseason training camp. All campers who attend the event during its new date will receive autographs from every player making an appearance. The Steelers confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that Freiermuth would be replacing Pickens at the camp. Both the Cowboys — Pickens' new team — and TruEdge Sports declined requests for comment. USA TODAY Sports also reached out to Pickens' agent, who did not immediately provide a statement on his behalf.

Kansas prepares to extend deadline for Chiefs, Royals to claim incentive for stadium construction
The Kansas City Chiefs asked leadership of the Kansas Legislature to extend a June 30 deadline for acceptance of bonds that would finance up to 70% of construction a new professional sports stadium in Kansas. Senate President Ty Masterson, a Republican, said the Legislative Coordinating Council will take up the request in July (). TOPEKA, Kansas — The president of the Kansas senate said Thursday a meeting with bipartisan legislative leadership would be called July 7 to extend the deadline for the Kansas City Chiefs or Kansas City Royals to accept an offer of financial support for construction of professional sports stadiums in Kansas. Senate President Ty Masterson said the Republican-dominated Legislative Coordinating Council, which conducts state business when the Legislature isn't in session, would consider an extension of the one-year STAR bond deadline enacted in July 2024. Masterson didn't indicate how lengthy the extension could be. Masterson said Mark Donovan, president of the Chiefs, asked Kansas officials to alter the deadline 'in light of substantial progress the Chiefs have made in discussions' with the Kansas Department of Commerce on an NFL development on the Kansas side of the border with Missouri. Those discussions have included building of a stadium, headquarters, practice facility and related business developments, Donovan said. 'The letter from Mark Donovan indicates that the drive to bring this historic project to Kansas is moving down the field,' Masterson said. 'Now that we are in the red zone, this extension will provide stakeholders sufficient time to ensure the ball crosses the goal line.' Missouri or Kansas? Business leaders don't care as long as Chiefs and Royals stay near KC Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed a bill last year authorizing issuance of bonds that would cover up to 70% of stadium construction, but the law set the deadline for making a deal at June 30, 2025. Last month, Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed legislation that would finance up to 50% of the cost to renovate or build new stadiums for the Royals and Chiefs. Missouri's commitment of tax revenue would be capped at $1.5 billion. The NFL and MLB franchises play at facilities in Kansas City, Missouri, that were built in the early 1970s. Owners of the teams have encouraged formation of public funding packages that would support replacement of those stadiums. Debate about the future of both franchises has rekindled the economic border war between Missouri and Kansas. The Legislative Coordinating Council would take up the measure altering the deadline at 2 p.m. July 7 in Topeka. 'The complexity and scale of the project, and the importance of crafting a structure that works for all stakeholders, make it clear that more time is needed to bring the effort to full fruition,' Donovan said in a letter to Masterson. He said the Chiefs had engaged in multiple rounds of dialogue about stadium proposals with the state Department of Commerce. The Chiefs hadn't received a response to the franchise's latest proposal in six weeks, he said. 'Extending the secretary's authority will allow that process to continue productively and will preserve Kansas' ability to secure the most significant economic development initiative in its history,' Donovan's letter said.
