Three LIV players punch Open tickets after Sergio Garcia's misses short putt
And then he wasn't.
Garcia missed the short birdie putt on his final hole Sunday at the Asian Tour's International Serie Macau, settling for par and a fourth-place finish, one shot behind fellow LIV Golf member Jason Kokrak.
Kokrak earned the final of three invites into this summer's Open at Royal Portrush. The two other qualifiers from the event, which is part of the Open Qualifying Series, were also LIV players: runner-up Patrick Reed and winner Carlos Ortiz.
Garcia would've won a tiebreaker with Kokrak, considering he is ranked better in the Official World Golf Ranking (No. 513 to No. 775).
After competing in 22 straight Opens, Garcia failed to qualify in each of the past two years; he took part in final qualifying both years, though didn't advance. He still has chances to qualify this year, whether through final qualifying or a new exemption that will go to the top player inside the top five of LIV's standings after the LIV Dallas event in June who is not already exempt. Garcia is currently third in LIV points behind Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann, who are both already qualified.
Following Marc Leishman at the Australian Open, four LIV players have now earned Open spots via the qualifying series, which continues at the Kolon Korea Open in May.
Golf Channel Staff,
The field for July 17-20 at Portrush currently features 14 LIV players: Ortiz, Reed, Kokrak, Rahm, Niemann, Leishman, Bryson DeChambeau, Tyrrell Hatton, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Tom McKibbin, Phil Mickelson, Louis Oosthuizen and Cameron Smith.

Letters to Sports: Time for Dodgers to make some changes
Between Mookie Betts hustling down the first-base line and Freddie Freeman's walk-off hit, Wednesday's Dodger victory over the Twins brought back great memories of last year's World Series. Hopefully this game will be a catalyst for getting the Dodgers out of the funk they have been in. Moving six-time right field Gold Glover Betts back to right (although his defense at short has been fine) would also propel the Dodgers to — as Tommy Lasorda used to say — taste the fruits of victory more often. Ken FeldmanTarzana Bill Plaschke and Dylan Hernández, where are you guys when we really need you? Why aren't you beating the drum loudly and repeatedly for the return of Mookie Betts to right field? Yeah, I know Mookie says it's not a factor in his slump. Would he ever admit that? Of course not. And Dave Roberts agrees … publicly, but I'd bet privately he feels otherwise. It was a lame idea to begin with. Who did they need to make room for out there, the next Ted Willams? And currently they have someone in Miguel Rojas who's probably a better fielder and at the moment even a better hitter. Please get the front office to do what's right before it's too late. Jack WishardLos Angeles I have never seen a bullpen for a pro baseball team that walked as many batters as the current one for the Dodgers. A relief pitcher who can't throw strikes is like a teacher who can't read. Unless this 'Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight' gets replacements and reinforcements soon they may have trouble making the postseason before it is all over, let alone repeating their championship. Alan AbajianAlta Loma Unfortunately, the Dodgers are not impervious to injury issues. The last time I checked, all teams experience injuries. Hopefully the team will deal with the issues rather than finding excuses as to why they're no longer 'baseball's evil empire.' In the late 1950's, most PGA pros were starting to skip this tournament because of the relatively low purse and significant travel involved. Interest in this championship was waning. Then, Arnold Palmer came along and changed everything! In 1960, he traveled to the Open and continued to do so every year for many years during the peak period of his popularity,. Russell Wilson joined Gabe Davis at dinner during New York Giants visit
Throughout free agency and the draft, one of the main focuses for the New York Giants has been ensuring that there are enough skill players for Russell Wilson to throw the ball to this fall. Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton are the sure starters in 2025, but after that, it gets a little murky. In May, the Giants hosted former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis for a visit. It wasn't a traditional free-agent visit, but more of a "let's see where you're at" visit focused on medical evaluations and system familiarity. Davis appeared on the Up & Adams Show on Thursday, and Davis shared some details on that visit. "It was great, Chad (Hall), Dabes, Shea (Tierney), all those, Joe (Schoen), I mean, it was awesome," Davis said. "Going out to New York and seeing those guys and talking with them. Russ, Russ came to dinner, that was dope, you know, to have Russell Wilson there. That was pretty sick. He's a legend." Davis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He played there, catching passes from Josh Allen, until his rookie contract expired and he signed a one-year deal with the Jags. Through 72 games over four seasons, Davis has recorded 183 passes for 2,969 yards and 29 touchdowns with four fumbles. He also has postseason experience, which is crucial to the locker room. In seven postseason games, Davis has 22 receptions for 474 yards and six touchdowns with zero fumbles. Davis currently remains a free agent, but as camp continues, that could change.
