The Sad Reason Taylor Swift 'Avoided The AMAs' Despite Multiple Nominations Revealed
Taylor Swift's absence from the 2025 American Music Awards is reportedly linked to the ongoing drama involving Blake Lively.
Once close friends, Swift found herself entangled in Lively's legal battle with her "It Ends With Us" co-star, Justin Baldoni. The situation escalated when the singer was unexpectedly hit with a subpoena related to Baldoni's countersuit, though it was eventually withdrawn.
Now, reports say the spotlight surrounding the feud forced Taylor Swift's decision to skip the ceremony, as she wanted to avoid the inevitable media questions about the saga.
Swift's absence from the 2025 American Music Awards came as a surprise to her die-hard fans, especially since she was nominated in six different categories.
Although Swift didn't end up winning any awards, fans had hoped she would at least make a virtual appearance and possibly use the moment to announce the release of her highly anticipated "Reputation" (Taylor's Version) album.
It has now been revealed that she intentionally skipped out on the event to avoid having to answer questions about the legal feud she was dragged into by her former bestie, Blake Lively.
"She avoided the AMAs because she didn't want to deal with 1000s of questions about the Blake Lively saga," a source told the Daily Mail, referencing Lively's sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni.
"It is all anyone wants to talk about, and Taylor is really tired of it," the insider further explained.
According to the insider, the entire drama with her former best pal has gotten to her neck, and she is now very keen to "move on" and doesn't want to "keep dealing with it."
However, for a time, that seemed unlikely, as Swift was subpoenaed by Justin Baldoni's legal team in connection with claims tied to his $400 million defamation countersuit against Lively.
In the wake of the subpoena, a representative for Swift came forward to explain that she was never involved in any of the "casting or creative decisions" for "It Ends With Us."
"She did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024, headlining the biggest tour in history," Swift's rep shared at the time, per People Magazine.
Baldoni's lawyers later withdrew the subpoena, freeing Swift from the obligation to sit down with them at a future date.
While the withdrawal of the subpoena likely brought Swift some relief, it was reportedly not done in response to the intense backlash Baldoni and his legal team faced over the move.
Instead, sources claim they had already obtained what they wanted from Swift, as someone in her inner circle reportedly handed over proof that Lively's legal team had "threatened to leak" private messages between the actress and Swift if the singer didn't publicly support her.
Later on, another insider claimed that the whistleblower was Scott Swift, the singer's 73-year-old father.
"Scott Swift did not want his daughter to be dragged into this any further, and he voluntarily gave up this information as part of a deal that would include [Baldoni's team] withdrawing their subpoena for Taylor," the insider informed the Daily Mail.
Amid the legal saga, Swift and Lively have reportedly "halted" their relationship.
"Their friendship has halted," a source told People Magazine earlier in the month. "Taylor wants no part in this drama."
According to a different source, Swift and Lively's decision doesn't mean that they are "no longer friends" but are only "taking some space" amid the drama.
Still, it is expected that it would take a lot of time for the duo to reconnect fully, as the ongoing feud has not only left Swift "completely floored" but also "very upset."
The singer's anger with the legal drama is also said to be fueled by Swift realizing that Lively has been using her name to boost her standing, a practice that has been allegedly ongoing for some time.
"Taylor has been aware that Blake has been exploiting her name for a while now, but this subpoena takes it to a whole new level," a source told the Daily Mail.
Much like Swift's rep, Lively's legal team was also quick to criticize Baldoni's lawyers for subpoenaing the singer, claiming that they continue to "publicly intimidate, bully, shame, and attack women's rights and reputations."
The former co-stars, Baldoni and Lively, are scheduled to face off in court on March 9, 2026.

Scooter Braun Is ‘Happy' Taylor Swift Bought Back Her Masters
After a contentious feud, Scooter Braun says that he is "happy for" Taylor Swift, now that she has the rights to her entire music catalog. On May 30, the "Cruel Summer" singer revealed that Shamrock Capital had allowed her to buy back her music, music videos, concert films, photography, and more, with "no strings attached." In 2019, Swift announced to the world that she was going to re-record her entire music catalog after Scooter Braun acquired her music. At the time, she called it her 'worst case scenario' and described how she had pleaded with Big Machine's Scot Borchetta for years 'for a chance' to own her work. Instead, she revealed that she had only been given 'the opportunity to sign back up at Big Machine Records and 'earn' one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in.' 'I learned about Scooter Braun's purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I've received at his hands for years,' she wrote at the time. 'Scooter has stripped me of my life's work, that I wasn't given an opportunity to buy…' she continued. 'Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.' Braun, who has since stepped away from artist management, told The Hollywood Reporter in a brief statement on Friday that he is 'happy for her' and left it at that. Additionally, a source told PEOPLE magazine that reports claiming that Scooter encouraged Shamrock to make the deal were false, and that the entrepreneur was not involved in the deal in any way. 'Contrary to a previous false report, there was no outside party who 'encouraged' this sale. All rightful credit for this opportunity should go to the partners at Shamrock Capital and Taylor's Nashville-based management team only,' the source revealed. 'Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him.' Since 2019, Swift has released 'Fearless (Taylor's Version),' 'Red (Taylor's Version),' "Speak Now (Taylor's Version),' and '1989 (Taylor's Version),' leaving many wondering what the fate would be for 'Reputation (Taylor's Version),' and the re-recording of her debut album. Although she told fans that she has re-recorded her debut album, she had less promising news about 'Reputation (Taylor's Version),' leaving some fans to suspect that the full album may not ever be released in its entirety. 'Full transparency: I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it,' she told her followers in a lengthy letter published on May 30. 'All that defiance, that longing, to be understood while feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief.' 'To be perfectly honest, it's the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn't be improved upon by redoing it,' she revealed. 'Not the music, or photos, or videos. So I kept putting it off. There will be a time (if you're into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to watch.' 'I've already completely re-recorded my entire debut album, and I really love how it sounds now,' she continued. 'Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about.' 'But if it happens, it won't be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have,' she added. 'It will just be a celebration now.' In her letter, Swift admitted that she never thought that she would be able to acquire her full music catalog again. 'I almost stopped thinking it would ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away,' she wrote. 'But that's all in the past now. I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words.' Further down in her letter, she thanked Shamrock Capital for giving her the chance to buy her music back with 'no strings attached' to their offer. 'All I've ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy,' she continued. 'I will be forever grateful to everyone at Shamrock Capital for being the first people to ever offer this to me.' 'The way they've handled every interaction we've had has been honest, fair, and respectful,' she added. 'This was a business deal to them, but I really felt like they saw it for what it was to me: my memory and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams. I am endlessly thankful. My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead.'

Selena Gomez Cheers On Taylor Swift As She Reclaims Her Music Catalog
After years of waiting, Taylor Swift finally has the rights to her music catalog again. On Friday, May 30, the "Mirrorball" singer revealed that Shamrock Capital had agreed to sell back the rights to her music with "no strings attached." A few hours after the "Anti-Hero" singer revealed that she was once again owned the rights to her old songs, music videos, and photography, her close friend Selena Gomez stepped up to show her support. "YES YOU DID THAT TAY!!!" she wrote on her Instagram Stories, adding, "SO proud!" The close friends have often shared their support with one another on social media, with Swift recently cheering on Gomez's latest album with her fiancé, . Earlier, in a post announcing their engagement, Swift commented, "yes I will be the flower girl," which sent fans into a frenzy. The news proved to be so popular that Swift's Instagram post received over five million likes within only three hours of publication. "taylor" started trending in the top spot on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, along with the title of one of her songs, "Better Than Revenge." Although comments on her Instagram post were disabled, her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce, dropped a subtle sign of support by "liking" her post, since he was unable to leave a comment. The post received many celebrities likes from her famous friends, many of whom have supported her throughout her journey to reclaim her music. The "Look What You Made Me Do" singer announced the good news in a long letter that she published on her website on the morning of Friday, May 30. In the letter, she thanked her fans for supporting her music and her wildly successful Eras Tour, which helped make the purchase possible. 'To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,' she told her followers. 'To my fans, you know how important this has been to me – so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor's Version.' Since Scooter Braun's acquisition in 2019, Swift has released 'Fearless (Taylor's Version),' 'Red (Taylor's Version),' "Speak Now (Taylor's Version),' and '1989 (Taylor's Version).' 'The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music,' she continued. 'I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to but have never owned until now.' Now that she has the rights to her music back, many fans are wondering what will happen to the last two albums that she has yet to re-record: "Reputation" and her debut album. In her letter, she revealed that while she has completed re-recording her debut album, she has been struggling with "Reputation" and the memories that she associates with that era of her life. 'Full transparency: I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it,' she explained. 'All that defiance, that longing, to be understood while feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief.' 'To be perfectly honest, it's the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn't be improved upon by redoing it,' she continued. 'Not the music, or photos, or videos. So I kept putting it off. There will be a time (if you're into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to watch.' However, there is good news for fans hoping for a full re-release of her debut album. 'I've already completely re-recorded my entire debut album, and I really love how it sounds now,' she wrote. 'Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about.' 'But if it happens, it won't be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have,' she added. 'It will just be a celebration now.'
