Kurnool SP inspects police constable mains exam centers
Kurnool: Kurnool district Superintendent of Police, Vikrant Patil, conducted inspections at various examination centers where the Andhra Pradesh Police Constable (Civil & APSP) Mains Examination was held on Sunday. The examination, organized by the Andhra Pradesh Police Recruitment Board, was conducted peacefully across 16 centers in the Kurnool district.
A total of 7,597 candidates were scheduled to appear for the exam, out of which 6,947 candidates were present, marking a strong turnout.
The SP visited key exam centers including G Pulla Reddy Engineering College, G Pullaiah Engineering College, Brindavan Institute of Technology & Science, KV Subba Reddy College, The Athena School, Montessori Indus Residential School, and Shankaras Degree College to oversee the arrangements and security protocols.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Vikrant Patil stated that the written examination was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner. He emphasized that robust security arrangements were in place at all exam centers to prevent any untoward incidents. Personnel were kept on high alert to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.
The Police Department ensured a conducive environment for aspirants to appear for the examination without any disturbances.

Three convicted to life imprisonment in 2022 gangrape and murder case in Palnadu
The 5th Additional District Judge of Guntur K. Neelima on Tuesday sentenced three men to life imprisonment in the sensational 2022 gangrape and murder case involving a tribal woman from Macharla mandal in Palnadu district, according to Superintendent of Police Kanchi Srinivasa Rao. In a statement, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that Seelam Anji (22), Saviti Chinna Anji (22), and Seelam Baiswami (31), all residents of Bellamkonda Vari Palem Chenchu Colony, were convicted under IPC Sections 376D, 376A, 302, and 201 read with Section 34. Each was sentenced for 20 years for gangrape, 20 years for sexual assault causing death, life imprisonment for murder, and 7 years for destruction of evidence, along with fines totaling ₹70,000. The victim, aged about 46 was an ASHA worker. She was raped and murdered on September 16, 2022, while searching for her lost mobile phone. Mr. Srinivasa Rao commended the police for the meticulous investigation. APP Pallapu Krishna played a key role in securing conviction. The SP emphasised the success of the district's 'Special Trial Case Monitoring' initiative in ensuring justice.

Burglar who invested 10L, disguised as woman held
Mumbai: A 44-year-old man who amassed enough wealth through committing burglaries to be able to invest in properties has been arrested by Malad Police. Ranjit Kumar Singh alias Munna, the accused, would take up a disguise and dress up as a woman before he set out for committing crimes Police have recovered a machine in which he would melt the stolen gold and silver ornaments before selling them. On March 17, the Malad Police had received a complaint about a break-in at a house located near NL School. The burglar had scaled up a floor and entered the house through the window. He robbed cash and ornaments worth Rs 4.5 lakh. A team supervised by DCP Anand Bhoite, ACP Hemant Sawant and senior inspector Vijaykumar Panhalkar and comprising inspector Sanjay Bedwal and detection officer Tushar Sukhdeve, made inquiries in the neighbourhood and analysed CCTV footage. On tracing Singh and questioning him, they learnt that he was involved in eight break-ins in the past three months at Borivli, Kandiali, Malad West and Dindoshi. He had never been arrested earlier for any of the crimes. Singh was a resident of Kharodi village in Malad and a native of Bihar. Police discovered that Singh had paid an individual Rs 10 lakh to invest in a plot of land in Bihar and purchased a house for Rs 6 lakh in Malwani from the ill-gotten wealth. tnn

A Muslim lawyer has stepped forward to defend Sharmishta Panoli, the 22-year-old law student arrested over a controversial video, calling her a 'good student' and raising serious questions about the Kolkata Police's handling of the to India Today TV on Monday, advocate Md Shamimuddin alleged procedural lapses in her arrest. 'Technically, the investigating agency should have served her with a notice under Section 35(3) of BNSS. They went to her house, found it locked, and without trying other means like email or WhatsApp, they directly moved the court for a warrant,' he said, accusing the police of skipping mandatory steps."If you do not find a person who is at home, and you want to serve a notice to that person, there is a law that you can affix that particular notice at a conspicuous place of her home, maybe at the door of her home. You can even serve this notice through email, through WhatsApp. But they did not try all these ways," Shamimuddin further said that his client was cooperating fully with the investigating agency."If she had been evading the process of law, then perhaps she would not have given her laptop and her mobile phone to the investigating agency after her arrest.
