Pahalgam victim's daughter Subhangi Guha clears ISC with 87%, plans to study psychology to fulfil father's dreams
It has been a difficult few weeks for 17-year-old Subhangi Guha, who witnessed her father, Samir Guha, lose his life in the recent terrorist attack at Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam. Still processing the trauma of that day, Subhangi received her ISC exam results on Wednesday and found a renewed sense of purpose in her academic achievements.
Subhangi Guha scored 87% in her ISC board exams
A student of the Arts stream, Subhangi scored 87% overall in her ISC board exams. Though she had aimed to cross the 90% mark, she remained composed and determined to stay focused on her goals. Her mother, Sabari Guha, shared that Subhangi now wishes to study Psychology Honours at Loreto College, Kolkata — a dream supported by her late father.
Pahalgam victim's daughter to concentrate on her higher education
'She wants to concentrate on her higher education. Her goal is to pursue psychology, and she believes her father's aspirations for her will be fulfilled through this path,' said Sabari. The family hopes to receive administrative support to help Subhangi continue her education smoothly.
Subhangi's relatives and neighbours gathered at the family's residence in Sakherbazar to offer encouragement and support on the day the results were announced. A relative mentioned that while she was briefly disheartened by her marks, Subhangi was already looking ahead to the future and how she can honour her father's legacy.
'She has always been a bright student. We will do everything we can to ensure she reaches where she wants to,' said Shankar Roy, a local club member who visited the Guhas that morning.
Victim's family denies the rumours of getting compensation money
Sabari also made a request to the public, urging people not to spread misinformation about the family. She addressed false reports claiming they had received a Rs 1.7 crore compensation. 'That is completely baseless. A government officer did visit, but no financial help has been provided yet,' she clarified.
Victim's family describing the attack that happened in Pahalgam
The mother and daughter had earlier recounted their experience to NIA officials. Sabari described how the attackers, dressed in army uniforms, suddenly surrounded the area and instructed everyone to lie on the ground. Her husband, along with others, was selectively targeted and shot.
The Guha family continues to process their grief, but Subhangi's academic milestone serves as a quiet testament to her resilience and determination to move forward.

Parents of a 12-year-old child from Bengal who worked in Gujarat allege torture, file police complaint
Parents of a 12- year-old child who allegedly worked as a child labour at Rajkot in Gujarat have filed a police complaint against his employers at Kalna police station in West Bengal's Bardhaman district, alleging severe torture during the child's stay in Gujarat. Photos of videos of the child with severe injuries across his body have gone viral on social media. According to parents and family members of the child who is undergoing treatment at Kalna State General Hospital, they had fallen on hard times and had sent the child to Rajkot in Gujarat to work at a factory making imitation jewellery about two years ago. 'He has injuries all over his body. We got Rs 3,500 when we sent him, after that there was no money,' the mother of the child told The Hindu. According to the mother, the employer sent the child back with another person and he arrived at Howrah Station on June 1. Doctors treating the child at the State run health facility said that the condition of the child was stable. An officer at the Kalna Police Station said that the police complaint was filed on June 3, where the parents alleged that the child was tortured in Bihar. The Trinamool Cogress leadership accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of Gujarat of perpetuating child labour. 'In PM @narendramodi 's Double Engine state Gujarat, child labour is not only perpetuated but also accompanied by dehumanising treatment! .... a young child from Kalna, was forced to work in a jewellery factory in Gujarat, where he was brutally assaulted, resulting in severe injuries and lasting trauma,' the Trinamool Congress tweeted. Trinamool Congress leader Purba Bardhaman Swapan Debnath met the family of the child and expressed support to the family. The West Bengal government claims that there are no instances of child labour in the state, though children from Odisha and Bihar have been rescued from brick kilns in the State. Several teenagers from West Bengal have also been rescued from jewellery making units of Tamil Nadu where they were working as ' bonded labours'.

Kidnapped in Iran on way to Australia, three Punjab men rescued: Embassy
Three men from Punjab, who had left for Australia on the promise of jobs by travel agents but found themselves in Iran and were later 'kidnapped' there, have been rescued, the Embassy of India in Iran Wednesday said. 'The three kidnapped Indian citizens have been safely rescued & are now under the care of the Embassy of India, which is facilitating their early repatriation. We sincerely thank the Government of Iran for their swift and effective efforts in securing their release. Your support reflects the true spirit of friendship between our two nations,' the Embassy of India in Iran posted on X. Amritpal Singh (23) from Bhagowal village in Hoshiarpur, Husanpreet Singh (27) of Dhuri in Sangrur and Jaspal Singh (32) of Langroya in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar — all in Punjab — were 'freed in a police operation against the hostage takers in Varamin in south Tehran,' Iran's Tasnim news agency reported Tuesday. All three had left for Australia in April with work visas after being promised lucrative jobs there by the travel agents back home in Punjab. They ended up in Iran where they were allegedly kidnapped by a network of travel agents from Pakistan who then demanded a ransom of Rs 18 lakh each for their release. The respective families received phone calls from the three men Tuesday evening, soon after the Iranian embassy in New Delhi, citing local media in Iran, said that the 'missing Indian citizens have been freed by Tehran police'. Husanpreet's cousin Manpreet Singh told the Indian Express that he received a call from an Iranian number at around 6 pm Tuesday. 'It was Husanpreet. He only said, 'We are safe now. Indian authorities have rescued us and we are now being taken to the embassy'. Before I could ask anything, the line went dead. Now, at least we know that he is alive,' said Manpreet.
