Sam Angelo homers twice and North Carolina beats Oklahoma 11-5 in Chapel Hill Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Sam Angelo hit two home runs, including a three-run shot to cap a six-run first inning, and No. 5 overall seed North Carolina rolled to an 11-5 victory over Oklahoma in the nightcap of the Chapel Hill Regional on Saturday night.
The second-seeded Sooners (36-21) will play an elimination game against No. 3 seed Nebraska on Sunday. That winner would need to beat the host Tar Heels (44-12) on Sunday night and again Monday to advance to the super regionals.
North Carolina jumped on Oklahoma starter Kyson Witherspoon with two outs and a runner on first. Gavin Gallaher, Hunter Stokely, Alex Madera and Tyson Bass had four straight singles to account for the first three runs before Angelo capped it. All six runs were unearned.
Gallaher had an RBI single in the fourth and Bass and Angelo hit back-to-back solo shots in the fifth for a 9-0 advantage.
Madera singled in a run in the sixth and Carter French did the same in the seventh as the Tar Heels scored in four straight innings.
Sam Christianson had an RBI double in the sixth for the Sooners' first run. Trey Gambill, Kyle Branch and Dasan Harris drove in the other three runs.
Jason DeCaro (9-3) allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings. He struck out eight and didn't issue a walk. Olin Johnson pitched a scoreless eighth and Cameron Padgett was tagged for an unearned run in the eighth. Tom Chmielewski allowed a run in the ninth without retiring a batter before Ryan Lynch closed it out.
Witherspoon (10-4) gave up 10 hits and three earned runs before leaving after four innings.

Texas players rushed the mound to embrace Kavan, who threw a masterful complete game, striking out three and allowing eight hits. The sophomore said being able to get the final out for the team 'meant the world.' 'I'm so happy for this team,' Kavan told the ESPN broadcast. 'We did it. First Natty. Let's go! My grandma, the last thing she told my brother – one of the last things was to bring home a victory and we did that for her.' Texas head coach Mike White said that it was 'surreal' to finally be lifting the trophy after coming to the school ahead of the 2019 season. 'I can't believe its happened. … For us to come out on top tonight – we're so close to being knocked out. I am speechless to tell you the truth. It doesn't happen very often. But I am so proud of our ladies.' Texas had lost to Oklahoma in the championship series two of the last three years. The Sooners, who were looking to win their fifth straight title, were defeated by the Longhorns earlier in the tournament. Stokely, Stevenson combine for 9 RBIs and North Carolina routs Arizona 18-2 to open Super Regional
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Hunter Stokely drove in five runs, Luke Stevenson drove in four and North Carolina rolled to an 18-2 victory over Arizona on Friday to open the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Jake Knapp allowed two runs on nine hits in seven innings. He improved to 14-0 with a 2.02 ERA. Tom Chmielewski finished with two scoreless innings. The top-ranked and No. 5 national seed Tar Heels scored eight runs in the first two innings, three on Stokely's home run that made it a 5-1 game in the first inning. Stevenson's three-run home run in the second made it 8-1. Stokely added an RBI-single in the fourth and another in the eighth inning. Stevenson drove in North Carolina's first run back in the first inning. Sam Angelo hit a three-run home run in the eighth and Kane Kepley's solo home run later in the inning made it 18-2. Gavin Gallaher had four hits and scored three runs. Kepley and Jackson Van De Brake each scored four times for the Tar Heels. The first five batters in the order had 13 hits and drove in 12 runs. They scored 15 runs. Adonys Guzman drove in a run with a single in the first inning and Easton Breyfogle added a sacrifice fly in the fourth for Arizona's two runs. Owen Kramkowski (9-6) allowed eight runs in an inning and a third. North Carolina (46-13) is playing in a Super Regional for the 12th time, having advanced eight times previously.

Kyle Teel gets a new shirt as he joins the Chicago White Sox for big league debut
CHICAGO (AP) — Kyle Teel has a new collared shirt and his own big league opportunity. Teel, one of baseball's top prospects, was brought up by the Chicago White Sox on Friday. The 23-year-old catcher singled, walked twice and scored in a 7-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals in his major league debut. Advertisement Teel was acquired in the Garrett Crochet trade with the Boston Red Sox in December. He batted .295 with eight homers and 30 RBIs in 50 games with Triple-A Charlotte.
