UTSA takes down No. 2 national seed Texas 7-4 for first trip to super regionals
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Norris McClure went 3 for 5 with a two-run homer in the first inning and UTSA added five runs in the third to help eliminate No. 2 national seed Texas 7-4 on Sunday night for the Austin Regional championship.
UTSA (47-13) advances to the program's first super regionals. The Roadrunners were 0-6 in their first three NCAA Tournament appearances before winning three straight this season, including a 9-7 victory over the Longhorns on Saturday.
McClure's sixth home run of the season went over the right-field wall for a 2-0 lead.
The UTSA defense came up big on multiple occasions, beginning in the third. James Taussig made a catch at the warning track in left field and quickly got it to the cut-off man for a rocket to third to end the inning on a double play.
Ty Hodge lined a shot to center that went off the center fielder's glove to clear the bases for a 6-0 lead. Mason Lytle added a two-out single for a seven-run lead.
Lytle, the American Athletic Conference defensive player of the year, made a diving catch on the warning track in center to save a run in the fourth.
Gunnar Brown (4-2) allowed only one earned run and six hits in a five-inning start for UTSA. Robert Orloski struck out four in three innings to earn his ninth save.
Hudson Hamilton went only one inning in his start for Texas (44-14).
The Longhorns were hosting a regional for the 38th time in program history.

White Sox give Robert more room to work on his adjustments at the plate
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox are going to rest Luis Robert Jr. for a couple days to give the slumping slugger more room to work on some changes at the plate. First-year manager Will Venable said he is planning to keep Robert out of the lineup on Tuesday and Wednesday against Detroit. 'He'll be available, but not in the starting lineup, just to give (him) an opportunity to really dial in some of these adjustments without just feeling the pressure of having to go out there and perform,' Venable said. 'So he's in a good spot physically. And just want to give him a couple days here to lock in some of these adjustments.' The 27-year-old Robert is 1 for 20 with 10 strikeouts and three walks in his last seven games. He is batting a career-low .177 with five homers and 20 RBIs in 55 games this season. The last-place White Sox had lost seven of eight going into Tuesday night's game against the Tigers. Michael A. Taylor replaced Robert in center field. Venable said Robert responded positively to the idea of taking a couple days off. 'He is putting in a ton of work and working extremely hard all throughout the day to try and get this thing right,' Venable said. 'He agreed that it would be a good idea just to press pause on the games, just for a couple of days here.' Robert had a major league-high 21 steals going into Tuesday's action, and he also plays strong defense in center. But he hasn't been able to find his swing at the plate. An All-Star in 2023, Robert has been playing through some right knee soreness. But Venable said he doesn't think it has been limiting him in any way. 'There's some soreness, but I think that it's not more than any soreness that all these guys feel during the course of the summer and playing hard out there every day,' he said. The White Sox made a move with their pitching staff on Tuesday, placing right-hander Jonathan Cannon on the 15-day injured list with a lower back strain. Right-hander Caleb Freeman was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. The 24-year-old Cannon was tagged for five runs in three innings in a 13-1 loss to Detroit in the series opener on Monday night. He is 2-7 with a 4.66 ERA in 10 starts and two relief appearances this season. 'Got some imaging done and they're continuing to evaluate it,' Venable said. Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas is ‘living my worst nightmare' as he embarks on injury rehab
BOSTON (AP) — Triston Casas isn't happy about having to watch the remainder of the Boston Red Sox's season following season-ending knee surgery. But he's ready to attack the rehab from his second major injury in two years head on. Casas spoke to reporters Tuesday for the first time since having the procedure last month to repair the ruptured left patellar tendon he injured running to first base after hitting a slow ground ball and then falling awkwardly during Boston's win over Minnesota on May 2. He was carted off the field and taken to a hospital for testing. He had surgery two days later. He was still using crutches Tuesday and said he will be off them soon. He will then head to the Red Sox's spring training facility in Fort Myers, Florida, where he'll spend most of this summer and the offseason undergoing rehab. The 25-year-old plans to be ready in time for opening day next season. 'I'm living my worst nightmare right now to go through a double-digit recovery that's months long,' Casas said Tuesday. 'But going through it now, I feel like I'm going to be better as a consequence of it. It's just part of the game. It's part of running hard down the line. Part of just playing the game how you feel like it should be. I wouldn't have changed anything about it. It's just a move that I've done a thousand times. … It's just onward from here, I guess.' The first baseman batted just .182 with three homers and 11 RBIs prior to the injury, but the biggest void he left is on defense. The Red Sox have explored multiple options to replace him, including initially asking Rafael Devers to learn the position after he was replaced at third by offseason, free-agent acquisition Alex Bregman, and moved to DH. Since Casas' injury, Abraham Toro has split time at first along with Romy Gonzalez. Casas is attacking this latest injury setback just a year removed from missing a large portion of last season with torn cartilage in his rib cage. 'So, I'm going to take it slow. Going to spend the winter in Fort Myers rehabbing and until then just try to stay in a positive mindset. I know there's a lot of healing that's done outside of the training table. Severe weather delays Pacers' arrival in Oklahoma City for NBA Finals
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Indiana Pacers' arrival in Oklahoma City for the NBA Finals has been delayed by weather. Forecasters issued a tornado warning, flood watch and severe thunderstorm watch for Oklahoma City and much of the surrounding areas on Tuesday afternoon, all while the Pacers' charter flight was in the air. The flight was diverted to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and refueled, and the team was planning to arrive in Oklahoma City later Tuesday evening. Oklahoma City's airport arrivals and departures were interrupted by heavy rain and wind. The Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder are scheduled to appear at the NBA Finals media day on Wednesday at the arena that will host Game 1 of the title series on Thursday night. There was at least one tornado spotted in Norman, Oklahoma, near the University of Oklahoma campus, on Tuesday afternoon. It was not immediately known if the tornado touched down or caused any damage. Norman is about 20 miles south of Oklahoma City.
