ACT MP Welcomes Changes To Anti-Stalking Bill, Calls For Urgent Action On Newer Forms Of Abuse
Press Release – ACT New Zealand Patterns of abusive behaviour deserve to be recognised by the law, and these changes will help victims seek justice, ACT MP Laura McClure. ACT MP Laura McClure is welcoming changes made at select committee to strengthen the proposed anti-stalking law, but says more must be done to protect New Zealanders from modern forms of digital abuse, particularly sexually explicit deepfakes. 'I'm pleased to see the Government respond to public concern about stalking with more robust and practical legislation,' says McClure. 'Patterns of abusive behaviour deserve to be recognised by the law, and these changes will help victims seek justice. 'But we can't stop here. As technology evolves, so do the tools of harassment and abuse. Sexually explicit AI-generated deepfakes made without consent are a fast-growing threat, especially to young people and women. 'I have a members' bill in the ballot that would create a specific offence for the creation and distribution of non-consensual sexually explicit deepfake content. This should be adopted as a Government Bill. 'Deepfakes are harming real people today, and the law is failing to keep up. 'The same commitment to protecting stalking victims should extend to those targeted by synthetic sexual abuse. We need clear, targeted laws so police can act, courts can prosecute, and victims can get justice.'

ITV drama streamed 30,000,000 times confirms season 4 a year after final episode
The hit ITV drama from the creator of Line of Duty is officially coming back for season four – after the show has been off the air for over a year. The bomb threat drama Trigger Point stars Vicky McClure as Afghan war veteran Lana Washington, whose bomb disposal team is tasked with protecting the public from explosives and terrorist threats. Produced by Jed Mercurio, the nail-biting show has been commissioned for a fourth season before the third has even aired. Season three wrapped filming in London last month and is set to hit screens this autumn, with the freshly renewed fourth season coming in 2026. The show averaged eight million viewers for its second series and became the second most-watched drama on ITV1 (behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office) when it aired way back in 2024. McClure, 42, will film the batch of season four episodes this summer, sharing a short clip from the set of Trigger Point season three to confirm the good news. We're nearly wrapped. It's very explosive in there but I can't show you. She then teased: 'What I can tell you is I've got a little secret. This is not the end. We're about to bounce straight into series four.' McClure added: 'I can't wait to continue the story of Lana Washington and her colleagues and the brilliant people that make this show.' In a statement the Line of Duty star said she's 'buzzing' ITV have backed the drama enough to greenlit season four before the third has even aired. 'I love working with the team, we have a great time making the show and I cannot wait to continue Lana's journey on Trigger Point,' said McClure. Jury Awards $9.45 Million to Man Injured at Dallas' Hotel Crescent Court

Branson exposes failures in guest safety protocols DALLAS, June 05, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A Dallas County jury has awarded $9.45 million to a man who suffered a serious fall at Hotel Crescent Court in Dallas' Uptown district. The verdict comes after a week-long trial in the 162nd Judicial District Court, where jurors heard evidence that the hotel failed to secure or warn guests about a dangerous condition in its courtyard that led to a guest's fall. "Hotel operators failed to provide minimum lighting required by building codes and failed to take basic steps to warn or protect guests from a very real hazard," said trial lawyer Tim Newsom with The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson. "We are pleased that the jury held the hotel accountable for choosing to protect their property over guest safety." Attorneys Debbie Dudley Branson and Linda Yee Villa tried the case alongside Mr. Newsom. According to the lawsuit, James Shelton McClure, 74, and his wife were guests at the hotel while seeking refuge during the historic Winter Storm Uri, which brought record-low temperatures across the state and left millions of Texans without electricity. The attorneys say the incident occurred in the early morning hours of March 6, 2021. While the McClures were walking their dog in the hotel's courtyard, Mr. McClure unknowingly stepped into an empty fountain basin that sits level with the concrete surface. The basin, approximately two feet deep, had been drained of water due to the freezing conditions. The petition says the area was unlit, and there were no cones, barriers or warning signs indicating the presence of the drop-off. As a result of the fall, Mr. McClure suffered serious orthopedic and neurological injuries. He underwent four surgeries for a broken ankle, ultimately requiring a total replacement. The fall also aggravated a pre-existing neck condition, leading to nerve damage to his dominant hand. The case is James Shelton McClure and Madeline McClure v.
