Man kicked, punched in apparent road rage attack in the Bronx, police say
The incident happened around 1 a.m. Monday, about half a block away from a police precinct in the Mott Haven section of the borough.
Victim hospitalized with significant head trauma
Police said a 37-year-old man and a group of people in two separate cars got into an argument that quickly turned physical.
It's unclear what the fight was about, but police said both parties got out of their cars at 149th Street and Brook Avenue.
According to investigators, the group of people started kicking and punching the 37-year-old victim, causing him to sustain significant head trauma. He was transported to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition and is expected to survive his injuries.
Officers could be seen processing what appeared to be the victim's car on the scene, and there was a significant amount of blood on the roadway.
By the time the officers arrived, the group of suspects had already driven away. Police are still searching for them at this time.

NEW YORK — Shane Tamura, the gunman who killed an NYPD officer and three civilians before taking his own life inside a Midtown Manhattan Park Avenue skyscraper, left a second suicide note behind in his Las Vegas home, police sources said Wednesday. The newly discovered note is similar to the three-page suicide screed found folded up in Tamura's wallet after he killed himself and is also focused on CTE, a brain injury Tamura believed he had and blamed the NFL for, a police source said. Toting an M-4 assault-style rifle with a scope and a barrel flashlight attached, Tamura walked into the lobby of 345 Park Ave. about 6:30 p.m. Monday and opened fire, first killing Officer Didarul Islam, who was in his NYPD uniform working a paid security detail authorized by the department. The gunman shot three civilians in the lobby, killing two and badly wounding the other, before taking the elevator to the 33rd floor, where he killed one more person before taking his own life. In the suicide note found in his wallet, Tamura blamed the NFL for his CTE, although the NYPD determined there was no nexus between the high school football player and the NFL. Police believe he was targeting the NFL headquarters on four lower floors of the building but took the wrong elevator bank. 'You can't go against the NFL,' he wrote in the note found in his wallet, police said. 'They'll squash you.' 'CTE. Study my brain please,' Tamura added. 'The league knowingly concealed the dangers to our brains to maximize profits. They failed us.' A team of NYPD detectives were sent to Las Vegas to search Tamura's home and interview his friends and associates, NYPD Chief of Department John Chell told Fox 5's 'Good Day New York' Wednesday. 'We will look at his phones and computer. We will talk to his family,' Chell said. 'We have to go to all of this, because it gives us the best info to prevent it next time.' NYPD chief describes crime scene 'mayhem' as gunman killed four in Manhattan skyscraper shooting
NYPD Chief of Department John Chell has been on the force for over 30 years, but the "mayhem" from Monday's Midtown Manhattan shooting now ranks among the worst he's ever seen. "I was down there in 20 minutes as the incident commander, and… We [had] casualties in the lobby, one of our own – Officer Islam," he said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends." "We got a mom executive dead. We have a security guard who fought but lost his life. We have an NFL employee who was shot but tried to call his friends up in the NFL. We had [the perpetrator's] car in front… we thought there might be explosives in there. A 44-story building, people running out. This is not normal, and I got cops trying to negotiate, calls coming in to people trapped, a shooter up on the 33rd floor. It was just mayhem." NYPD officials were put on high alert this week when Nevada-based gunman Shane Tamura entered a Manhattan skyscraper and gunned down four people, including NYPD officer and father of two, Didarul Islam. NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said a suicide note found in Tamura's possession speaks to a possible motive, noting he blamed the NFL for his potential diagnosis and mentioned a 2013 Frontline documentary on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).
