Kerry felt 'disrespected' before sealing Sam Maguire win
Kerry felt "disrespected" before overcoming Donegal in Sunday's All-Ireland SFC final, according to the Clifford brothers. The Kingdom won the decider 1-26 to 0-19 at Croke Park for a 39th Sam Maguire success for the county and a second title in four years. But speaking to RTÉ Sport's Damian Lawlor on the pitch after full-time of a match in which he and his brother David excelled, Paudie Clifford admitted that Kerry had felt slighted by the narrative surrounding the team. "We would have put a lot of pressure on ourselves. We would be our own biggest critics but we did feel disrespected," he said. "We felt disrespected for a long time. "Our team has been together for a good few years now. Even though we won the All-Ireland in 2022, it was the first time ever we put a 70-minute performance and we're absolutely delighted," he said. "We knew what Donegal would bring and we knew it would be unbelievable work-rate. But we just said we'd try and pick around them and try and take the right shots, even though we didn't really in the first half, we did in the second half. "But we have to give massive credit to our midfielders and Shane Ryan. We had enough possession to be able to give a few balls away and maybe kick a few scores wide. But we still had enough ball." Midfielder Joe O'Connor, who added a late goal as the icing of the cake, echoed the Cliffords' view that Kerry had something to prove on the day. "A lot of this group has lost a good few All-Ireland finals and a lot of big games so we wanted to right wrongs and we had setbacks throughout the year as well and we just kept going at it, kept showing up in training, kept learning and I'm just so proud of everyone," he told the RTÉ panel.

Jack O'Connor set to step away as Kerry boss after more final glory
Jack O'Connor indicated he will step away from the job after sealing his fifth All-Ireland final win as Kerry manager. O'Connor signalled his intention to step down at the top in an interview with RTÉ Radio 1 following Kerry's win over Donegal. Speaking on TV earlier, he identified David Clifford's two-pointer just before half-time as the key moment in the final win. Kerry kept the ball for a long period before working the opportunity for Clifford to shoot after the hooter. Turning a five-point lead into seven was massive for Kerry, O'Connor said. "The two-pointer just before half time by David was a massive score. That put us seven up." And Kerry drew on Cork's experience in the hurling final to make sure they stayed the course. "We said to each other in the dressing room, what happened Cork last weekend wasn't going to happen us. We were going to come out and play and try to win the second half and we did by three points." The strength of Kerry's panel was the key this year, O'Connor added. "Take the year as a whole, we had a lot of adversity, a lot of injuries. We lost a lot of good men. But we had a tremendous panel spirit. "I heard a great man Brian Cody talking years ago about panel spirit and you can't beat it. "Men like Mark O'Shea, Sean O'Brien, lads like that who didn't think they'd be near the team starting midfield in an All-Ireland final for Kerry. It's the stuff of dreams. I'm delighted for them all. A massive team effort, a massive panel effort, backroom team effort I'm thrilled for them all. "The boys fought on their backs out there."

GAA pay poignant tribute to mum and two children killed in Co Fermanagh shooting at All-Ireland final in Croke Park
THE GAA has paid a poignant tribute to a mum and two children who were killed in Co Fermanagh this week. And an announcement was made on the loudspeakers offering "condolences on the tragic deaths" with thoughts and prayers dedicated to the trio's friends, family, and community. A moment of silence was also held before the match kicked off. Maguiresbridge St Mary's GFC paid tribute to the family, calling them "treasured members". "At training, those of us lucky enough to be involved would see James the joker. "His playfulness and sense of humour may have earned his teammates more push-ups than they would've like on occasion, but his light-hearted nature and kindness always enhanced team morale and made our time together all the more enjoyable and memorable." And in tribute to Sara, they commented: "Sara displayed a mix of quiet resolve with dogged determination. HEART AND SOUL "An exceptionally well behaved girl, Sara was a joy to be around and always had a smile on her face. "Like Vanessa and James, Sara shared a love of all things GAA and their beloved County Clare, a regular source of playful goading, which we will now forever miss." And St Patrick's Lisbellaw Hurling Club said the tragic victims were "the heart and soul" of the club. They said: "Our hearts go out to all those grieving their loss. This tragedy has had and will continue to have such an impact on all those whose lives they touched.
