Iran And Qatar Are Allies – And The Coordinated Bombing Of The CENTCOM Base In Qatar Proves It

Introduction
Iran's bombing of CENTCOM's Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar created confusion in Western circles regarding Iran-Qatar relations. It should be emphasized that it is no accident that Iran chose to attack the U.S. in Qatar, of all places. This is because Iran and Qatar are allies and could coordinate the bombing such that it would cause no loss of life or significant damage. Additionally, Qatar's consent to the operation does not endanger Iran with a Qatari response – in contrast to what would happen if a U.S. base were to be attacked in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, or Jordan.
Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Aal Thani and Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran, from Khamenei's website, February 19, 2025.
Below is Iran's reasoning for attacking the CENTCOM base in Qatar:
Iran: Qatar Is A "Sister" And A "Friend"
The bombing of the U.S. airbase in Qatar was, according to Iran, against the U.S., and Iran is emphasizing that Qatar is a "sister" state and a "friend" and has historic ties to Iran. The operation, say the Iranian regime mouthpieces, poses no threat to "our friendly neighbor" Qatar, and they add that Iran remains committed to preserving and continuing its historically warm relationship with Qatar.
Thus, for example, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei explained in a post on X that Iran's attack on the American Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar constituted "self defense." He wrote:
"Iran's military strikes on American military base 'Al-Udeid' was in exercise of our self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter in response to the United States' unprovoked aggression against Iran's territorial integrity and national sovereignty that took place on 22 June 2025.
"This act of self-defense had nothing to do with our friendly neighbour Qatar as we enjoy excellent and deeply rooted relationships.
"Iran remains fully committed to its good-neighbourliness policy with respect to the State of Qatar and other neighboring countries.
"We resolve not to let U.S./Israeli criminal aggressions and malign policies against Iran create division between us and the brotherly countries of the region."[1]

In Speech In Tampa, Florida, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir Warns India Not To Build Dams On Indus River: 'We Are A Nuclear Nation – If We Are Going To Go Down, We Will Take Half The World Dow

On August 9, 2025, Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir, on his second official visit to the United States in two months, delivered a speech to the Pakistani-American community in Tampa, Florida, in which he issued a nuclear warning to India over the sharing of Indus River waters. Both visits followed the May 7-10, 2025, Pakistan-India War sparked by a terrorist attack in Kashmir.[1] In Tampa, General Asim Munir attended a change-of-command ceremony on August 10 at the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) for the outgoing commander, General Michael E. Kurilla, and welcomed Admiral Brad Cooper as the new Centcom chief.[2] Earlier, on June 18, President Donald Trump had hosted General Asim Munir for a private luncheon at the White House, the first such honor for a Pakistan army chief unaccompanied by civilian leaders.[3] General Asim Munir with retiring Centcom chief General Michael E. Kurilla (left) and his successor, Admiral Brad Cooper (right). Before his Tampa visit, General Asim Munir delivered at least four major speeches – two of which appear to have triggered the April 22 jihadi terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. In the remaining two addresses, he denied the rights of the people of Balochistan and warned India that Pakistan will never compromise on Kashmir.[4] In the evening of August 9, 2025, addressing the Pakistan-American community in Tampa, General Asim Munir touched on, among other topics, different aspects of Pakistan-India conflicts over Kashmir and on India's threat, due to numerous jihadi attacks in Kashmir, to stop the waters of Indus River, which flows into Pakistan. At present, the water-sharing arrangement is managed under the 1960 Indus Water Treaty (IWT). Although a limited number of 150-200 members of the Pakistan-American community were invited to attend the exclusive dinner speech with General Asim Munir and were not allowed to carry mobile phones, parts of his speech appeared in Pakistani and Indian media, especially his comments that the nuclear-armed Pakistan would launch missiles to destroy any dams built by India on the rivers in Kashmir. Quotes from General Asim Munir's speech, posted below, have been assembled from different media groups in Pakistan and India. Center: Pakistani businessman and Captain (retired) Usman speaks on the Dunya News television channel. The black-tie dinner began with the recitation of Quranic verse (As-Saff: 4), which translates as follows: "Surely Allah loves those who fight in His cause in solid ranks as if they were one concrete structure."[5] "We Are A Nuclear Nation – If We Are Going To Go Down, We Will Take Half The World Down With Us" The following are some of General Asim Munir's statements: "Pakistan is extremely thankful to U.S. President Trump. His strategic leadership stopped many wars in the world, not just the Pakistan-India war [of May 7-10, 2025]. In one and a half months, my second visit is an indication of a new direction in Pakistan-America relations. The goal of these visits is to put the relations on a constructive, lasting, and positive path."[6] "Occupied Kashmir is not an internal matter of India, but an incomplete international agenda. The Quad-e-Azam [i.e., Great Leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan] has said that Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan. There are resolutions of the United Nations Security Council on occupied Kashmir. Pakistan supports these resolutions."[7] "Pakistan will never allow India to choke the Indus River and will defend its water rights at all costs even if the forces will have to destroy any controversial dam that India sought to build on it."[8] "The Indus River is not the Indians' family property. We do not have shortage of missiles, Insha'Allah [All praise be to Allah]."[9] "We will wait for India to build the dam. When it does so, we will destroy it with ten missiles."[10] "We are a nuclear nation. If we are going to go down, we will take half the world down with us."[11] "Pakistan has made clear that a ferocious response will be given against Indian aggression."[12] After General Asim Munir's nuclear threat was widely reported in Indian media, Pakistan's Dunya News television channel invited Pakistani businessman Captain (retd.) Usman – one of the hosts of General Asim Munir in Tampa who says his family has long-established relations with the Pakistan army chief – to respond.[13] Captain Usman told Dunya News that at the dinner in Tampa, General Asim Munir had said that many heads of state had called him during the May 7-10 Pakistan-India War, warning that it could result in a nuclear war and Pakistan would disappear.[14] To the world leaders, Captain Usman told the television channel, General Asim Munir firmly said: "I do not want a world in which there is no Pakistan. If there is no Pakistan, what do we have to do with the world?"[15] April 15, 2025: General Asim Munir addresses overseas Pakistanis from Islamabad. "Politics Is Also Too Serious To Be Left To The Politicians" In his address, General Asim Munir, who has a religious background,[16] also narrated a story from the Quran's Surah Al-Fil in which swarms of ababeel birds, or swallows, were sent by Allah to defend the Kaaba in Mecca against Abraha's army of elephants.[17] According to The Print, an Indian media outlet, the Pakistan army chief referred to a tweet mentioning ababeel birds, indicating that Pakistan will respond in the manner of these Quranic birds. He said: "One tweet was published with Surah Al-Fil and a picture of [Indian industrialist] Mukesh Ambani to show them what we will do the next time."[18] This statement has been interpreted as meaning that Pakistan will carry out missile strikes on Ambani's oil factories in Gujarat state, which borders Pakistan. General Asim Munir, who is now field marshall, also mocked India's aspirations to be "Vishwa Guru [world leader]," saying: "India wants to present itself as Vishwa Guru but practically there is nothing like that. The Indian secret agency's involvement in transnational terrorist activities is a cause of serious concern at an international level. The examples of this are the killing of Sikh leader [Hardeep Singh Nijjar] in Canada, and the matter of eight Indian naval officers [arrested and later freed by Qatar]. Its example are incidents like Kulbhushan Yadav [who has been held in a Pakistani prison since 2016 on accusations of espionage]."[19] Following are several more statements by Munir: "I am going to use a crude analogy to explain the situation. India is a shining Mercedes coming on a highway like a Ferrari. But we are a dump truck full of gravel. If the truck hits the car, who is going to be the loser?"[20] "We will start from India's east where they have located their most valuable resources and then move westwards."[21] "Allah will definitely bless Pakistan with his bounty because the country is only the one of the two states founded on the basis of Kalimah.[22] The first of these countries was the city state of Medina founded by the Prophet Muhammad. The second such state was Pakistan..."[23] "They say war is too serious to be left to the generals. But politics is also too serious to be left to the politicians."[24] "The ongoing genocide in Gaza is an extreme human catastrophe. The situation of Gaza has consequences both at a regional and an international level."[25]

Hamas accepts Gaza ceasefire plan

Shafaq News – Gaza / Cairo Hamas endorsed, on Monday, a ceasefire plan brokered by Egypt and Qatar, signaling willingness to halt fighting in Gaza and begin staged hostage releases. A Hamas representative told Agence France-Presse that the group submitted its written response 'without requesting amendments,' with the plan modeled on earlier US initiatives attributed to Envoy Steve Witkoff and providing for a 60-day truce tied to phased exchanges. Palestinian sources close to the talks described the proposal as a foundation for negotiating a permanent ceasefire, while an Islamic Jihad contact confirmed the first stage envisions releasing 10 hostages and returning several bodies under international guarantees. Qatar's Foreign Ministry confirmed that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed joint mediation efforts to end the war and address Gaza's humanitarian collapse. الرئيس المصري يستقبل رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير الخارجية @MBA_AlThani_ #الخارجية_القطرية — الخارجية القطرية (@MofaQatar_AR) August 18, 2025 Israel's Army Radio, citing Egyptian officials, reported that Cairo suspects Trump may still be advancing displacement plans for Palestinians. According to the report, Washington could link support in Egypt's long-running Nile water dispute with Ethiopia—centered on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project—to such approval. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted earlier this week that his government would accept only a deal ensuring the release of all captives 'at once and under Israel's conditions,' repeating that ending the war depends on those terms even as UN officials warn Gaza faces famine. US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, 'We will only see the return of the remaining hostages when Hamas is confronted and destroyed!!! The sooner this takes place, the better the chances of success will be.' Tens of thousands rallied in Tel Aviv on Sunday, demanding an end to the war and the return of captives. Meanwhile, Gaza's Health Ministry reported that Israel's military campaign has killed 62,004 Palestinians and wounded 156,230 since the conflict began. On the battlefield, Hamas's military wing, the Qassam Brigades, claimed they struck Israeli troops and vehicles in a mined field south of Gaza City's al-Zaytoun neighborhood, while Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades reported shelling an Israeli command post inside al-Furqan School with mortars.

US starts withdrawing from Iraq through Al-Anbar

Shafaq News – Al-Anbar The first phase of the US military withdrawal from Iraq has begun in western Al-Anbar province, a security source told Shafaq News on Monday. The source said a convoy departed Ain al-Asad Air Base carrying trucks loaded with military vehicles and is expected to move toward Syrian territory. Ain al-Asad, located about 10 kilometers from the town of al-Baghdadi, is Iraq's second-largest air base after Balad. It has served as a central hub for US forces and houses the command of the 7th Division. The withdrawal follows a 2022 Baghdad–Washington agreement that set September 2025 as the point to begin scaling down the US presence. Washington had returned troops to Iraq in 2014 at Baghdad's request to lead the Global Coalition against ISIS, a campaign that grew to 87 members. Initially focused on combat operations, the mission later shifted toward training, intelligence, and advisory support under Operation Inherent Resolve. Today, about 2,500 US troops remain in Iraq. The reduction comes amid renewed warnings from US officials of persistent ISIS activity, alongside growing Iraqi political demands for full sovereignty and continued pressure from pro-Iran armed factions within the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
