Boy hospitalised following hit-and-run

Perth Now08-05-2025
Police are appealing for public assistance following a hit-and-run incident that seriously injured a child in Melbourne's southeast.
Suhas Sunkisala, 11, was riding his bike through a pedestrian crossing in Murumbeena near the intersection of Railway Pde and Ardyne St on May 1 when he was struck by a silver Toyota Yaris.
The driver of the car did not stop to render assistance, and continued to travel westbound on Railway Pde. Investigators have released images of a vehicle described as a silver Toyota Yaris that they believe will assist in the investigation. Police Credit: Supplied
The boy was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital with serious injuries – including a broken ankle and injuries to his face – where he underwent emergency surgery.
'I was heading towards the zebra crossing then I saw a car slow down at the speed breaker and then I crossed at the zebra crossing and the car sped up and it hit me,' Suhas told 9 News.
'I was in shock so the pain didn't hit me too much when I was flying through the air [but] when I hit the ground I felt it.'
The incident, which occurred at about 3:30pm on Thursday May 1, is currently under investigation.
Police are hunting for the silver Toyota Yarris they believed was involved in the incident, which they said could possibly be missing its driver side mirror following the collision.
Anyone who can identify the vehicle or the driver is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police were called to a home on Christie Avenue in the Victorian border town of Cobram at about 5am on Tuesday, where they found the body of a 32-year-old woman. The two young children found inside the address were not physically injured, and Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said police were yet to speak to them about what had occurred. "What exactly they've seen we don't know, but obviously we will do our best to speak to those children," he said. "Their wellbeing is number one and making sure they're okay and being looked after and provided support that they need. A 45-year-old man, who was known to the woman, has been arrested and will be interviewed by police. Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said the man was known to police, but they were still trying to piece together what had occurred. "We are doing the very best we can to understand what's occurred today and a crime like this, we will work extremely hard to hold those responsible to account,' he said. "One woman killed in circumstances like this is too many and it shouldn't happen. 'People should be safe in their homes. People should be safe in their relationships. Great Southern Police searching for two Highland cross calves believed to be stolen from Porongurup property

Two Highland cross calves are missing from a WA property, with police believing they were stolen last week. The two calves are believed to have been stolen between August 14 and August 17 from a property on Porongurup Road, Porongurup. Mt Barker office-in-charge Sgt. David Swaine said the abscence of the two calves was noticed and reported to police on August 17. He said the calves belonged to a small hobby farm in Porongorup. 'We're just seeking information from the public in relation (to the calves),' Sgt Swaine said. 'They can't exactly just sit on the back of a ute, it's going to be a truck or a trailer or some sort of vehicle that would have had to remove the animals.' It is not known how much the calves are worth or what type of cross breed they are. If you saw something suspicious in the area or have any knowledge of the crime, call Mt Barker Police on 9851 5200 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 quoting 180825 1300 87549.
