Ariana Grande Just Detailed The Wholesome Loophole Her Mom Found To Get Around A Rule That Parents Couldn't Stay For Rehearsals When Ari Was In Stage Shows As A Kid

Buzz Feed07-02-2025

Ariana Grande has revealed just how dedicated her mom, Joan Grande, was to keeping a close eye on her when she pursued acting as a child.
While she is now best known for being both an iconic popstar and an Oscar-nominated actor for her performance as Glinda in Wicked, Ariana actually started out on the stage.
She got her big break in 13: The Musical back in 2008, when she was 14 years old.
Ariana then enjoyed TV success on the Nickelodeon shows Victorious and Sam & Cat between 2010 and 2014.
And before all of that, Ariana was an active member of her local community theater, and during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, she explained that this meant her mom was an active participant, too.
In fact, Ariana said that Joan refused to leave her alone for rehearsals when she was as young as eight, and to get around the rules about this, Joan would get herself cast in the same productions so that she could stay.
'There wasn't anything she missed,' Ari began. 'Even when I was younger, she would audition for the shows when I was in family theater, community theatre, so that she could stay at the rehearsals.'
'Usually they were like: 'No parents, we'll see you after pick up,'' she clarified. 'And [Joan] was like: 'I'll play the apple seller in Annie; apples! Apples! Who wants apples?''
When Jimmy asked if she got the part, Ariana confirmed: 'She got it and she nailed it, yeah.'
'It was so that she could be there to support me and be there during rehearsals,' she added. 'It was very sweet.'
While the host wondered if this was a good thing, Ari insisted that it was 'great' because of her young age — and the people of the internet agree, with many praising Joan for keeping her young daughter close.

Quote-tweeting the clip from the interview, one person wrote: 'That's a good stage parent.'
'Her mom really took all precautions necessary to protect her,' somebody else wrote. One more added: 'This is such a special and wise thing for her mother to do.'
'I love Joan so much like she really protected her baby,' another user tweeted.
Ariana is incredibly close to her family, and she regularly attends red carpet events with Joan, her brother Frankie Grande, and even her beloved ' Nonna,' who has taken a step back from the spotlight in recent months — no doubt due to her recently turning 99 years old.

Ari also regularly posts about her loved ones on her Instagram page, including when she flew back to her hometown in Florida for just one day for a cozy family screening of Wicked.
Speaking about her close relationship with her family on Kimmel, Ariana said: 'I have a very, very supportive family; I'm so grateful.'
What do you make of Joan's approach to keeping an eye on little Ariana during rehearsals? Let me know in the comments!

Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff seemingly confirm romance with a kiss in Italy: A timeline of their blossoming relationship

It looks like summer lovin' for Billie Eilish and her rumored boyfriend, Nat Wolff. The singer-songwriter appeared to confirm her romance with the actor-musician when the pair were seen kissing in Italy on June 7. Rumors that Eilish, 23, and Wolff, 30, were an item hit a fever pitch in March when they were seen leaving the iHeartRadio Music Awards together. Wolff, who is one half of the musical duo Nat & Alex Wolff, with brother Alex, starred in Eilish's self-directed 'Chihiro' music video, which was released in June 2024. Eilish previously described the video as being emblematic of her 'inescapable connection' with Wolff. From their weekend in Coachella to their night out in New York City, here's a look back at Eilish and Wolff's relationship. Wolff's brother, Alex, met Eilish at an Oscars party in 2023. Eilish and both Wolff brothers reportedly grabbed a bite to eat after the party. Eilish, according to Alex, bonded with both brothers over Tourette's syndrome. All three of them live with the disorder, which is characterized by repetitive and involuntary sudden movements. 'Even when I saw Billie on interviews, I said, 'Oh, she's one of us,'' Alex told Variety in October 2024. 'We know all the ways that we try to mute ourselves or try and chill ourselves out or soften ourselves for other people, and how nice it is to not have to do that for certain people.' Eilish attended Coachella with both brothers. The brotherly duo shared photos from their weekend in the desert, which heavily featured the 'Lunch' singer. Wolff starred in Eilish's self-directed music video for her single 'Chihiro' just two months after their Coachella outing. Eilish, in a press release, described the video's concept as showcasing the 'external expression of an internal push and pull, as our deepest feelings of fear, love, or desire inevitably catch up to us, no matter how hard we try to run away.' In the music video, the Grammy winner and the former Nickelodeon star are unable to stay away from one another — which Eilish previously said is representative of their 'inescapable connection.' The Wolff brothers were then confirmed as the opening act for Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft North American tour, from September to October 2024, and then again for select dates in November. The duo rejoined Eilish on tour as the opener for her Dec. 17 show in Inglewood, Calif. 'She's one of those people where almost everything she does, she does better than everyone else,' Wolff told Vogue about Eilish in October 2024. 'She's like, 'Come see me ride my horse,' and the teacher says, 'You know, if she put all her energy into it, she could go to the Olympics.' You just have to kind of submit to the fact that she's going to be better than everyone else at everything.' Eilish and Wolff found themselves embroiled in romance rumors in March 2025, when the popular Instagram account Deux Moi shared photos of them leaving the iHeartRadio Music Awards together in Los Angeles. The Hit Me Hard and Soft hitmaker was spotted with Wolff the following week in New York City. While barhopping with friends in the East Village, the pair were reportedly 'very affectionate' with one another. Deux Moi then posted photos of Eilish and Wolff kissing on a balcony in Italy in June 2025. In the carousel of photos, Eilish is seen taking photos of Wolff with a digital camera, while the pair sip flutes of champagne. 'Tbh extremely happy for her bc she deserves a nice healthy love, and Nat's a good guy,' one fan commented on Deux Moi's Instagram post. 'Look at her smiling and everything likee cmon soooo cute🥺🥺🥺🥺!!!'

George Clooney shows off hair transformation at Tony Awards: 'I had to cut it out'

George Clooney is back to his silver fox self. The "Good Night, and Good Luck" star, who was nominated at the 78th annual Tony Awards on June 8, returned to his signature salt-and-pepper hairdo, as seen by Clooney's red-carpet appearance with wife Amal Clooney. The Oscar-winning actor had previously dyed his hair black for his starring role as CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow in the Broadway play. "I had to cut it all out with a weed whacker to get it all," Clooney told E! News. "That black hair dye, I had to cut it out. You can't color that." Despite the hairy ordeal, Clooney, 64, and Amal made a stylish splash on the Tony Awards carpet. The "ER" alum evoked Hollywood heartthrob vibes in a classic black-and-white tuxedo, while Amal, 47, stunned in a white, off-the-shoulder frock. The actor, who was up for best leading actor in a play for his portrayal of Murrow, joked about the lukewarm reception of his darker hair in an April interview with "CBS Mornings." Need a break? "Honestly, nothing makes you look older than being 63 and dyeing your hair." Just like the closing night of "Good Night, and Good Luck," which took place the same day as the Tonys, Clooney's brunette era was bound to have its final bow. The actor hinted at his hair transformation in a June 3 interview on "Late Night with Seth Meyers." "We do a matinee, and then by the time we go to the Tonys that night, it'll be gone," Clooney told Meyers. "I may have a shaved head."
