The opening weekend of the 2025 BIG3 season took a shocking turn when former NBA stars Dwight Howard and Lance Stephenson were ejected after a physical altercation erupted during Saturday's matchup between the LA Riot and Miami 305.
What began as a competitive debut for both players quickly turned into a full-blown brawl that spilled into the crowd in the league's highly anticipated season opener.

Tensions had been simmering throughout the game, but they finally boiled over in the closing minutes. After a series of physical plays, Lance Stephenson raised his hand toward Dwight Howard's chest during a heated exchange. Howard reacted instantly, shoving the arm aside and stepping into Stephenson's space.
Moments later, the two locked up and fell out of bounds, with the scuffle carrying them into the crowd near the media area.
The fight was intense. Howard had Stephenson in a headlock, while Stephenson dragged him into the first few rows of seats before officials and security intervened. Both players were immediately ejected, and the game resumed without them. Miami ultimately secured a 50-44 win, finishing off the contest with a layup by Mario Chalmers.

This wasn't Stephenson's only run-in of the night. Earlier in the game, he had an aggressive exchange with Jordan Crawford, who appeared to poke him in the nose. Stephenson responded by throwing a punch, though he remained in the game at that point.
Saturday marked the BIG3 debuts for both players. Howard, now 39, is fresh off a stint overseas and is set to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later this year.
During his 18-year NBA career, he earned eight All-Star selections, won Defensive Player of the Year three times, and captured a title with the Lakers in 2020. Stephenson, 34, played 10 NBA seasons with nine different franchises, most notably the Pacers, where he built a reputation for his aggressive, high-energy play.
Howard finished with 10 points and seven rebounds before being tossed, while Stephenson led his squad with 16 points, three rebounds, and an assist.

With the BIG3 now featuring eight new teams and a 10-week sprint toward a $1 million championship prize, the league hoped to focus on star power and competition. Instead, its first major headlines came from an all-out fight.

Report: Heat, Spurs, Rockets top Kevin Durant's trade wish list

Potential landing spots for Kevin Durant are starting to emerge should the Phoenix Suns trade him, as expected, with the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets his preferred destinations, according to ESPN. Those are the three teams Durant would commit to for a longer term, per the ESPN report Saturday night. He has one season left on his current deal and is set to earn $54.7 million in 2025-26. While word of Durant's preferences has spread across the NBA, the Suns also have been clear that they will make the best move for the team, regardless of the desires of the 15-time All-Star. The Minnesota Timberwolves also are expected to be among the teams in the mix for a trade. Durant, who turns 37 in September, played in 62 games with the Suns in 2024-25. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 blocks, not far off of his career averages. He also shot 43.0 percent from 3-point range. Selected to the All-NBA first team six times, Durant has appeared in 1,123 games with the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder , Golden State Warriors , Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds. 4.4 assists and 1.1 blocks, shooting 39 percent from long distance. Once the new league year begins on July 6, Durant is eligible to sign a two-year extension worth up to $122 million. The Suns finished 36-46 and missed the NBA playoffs in the 2024-25 seasons. Head coach Mike Budenholzer was fired after just one season. Field Level Media

India women's hockey team squanders lead, suffers second consecutive loss against Australia in FIH Pro League

The Indian women's hockey team fought on equal terms against Australia but conceded a last-minute goal to lose 1-2 in its FIH Pro League match in London on Sunday. This was India's second consecutive defeat to the same opponents as they had lost 2-3 on Friday. India took the lead in the third minute through a field goal from Vaishnavi Phalke and they were 1-0 up at half-time. But Australia restored parity in the 37th minute through Amy Lawton. The match was heading towards a draw but Lexie Pickering scored the winner from a penalty-corner variation in the 60th minute to break Indian hearts. India made a bright start to the game by winning three back-to-back penalty corners in the very first minute, adding pressure on the Australian backline. India carried on its momentum and scored the opening goal as early as the third minute to take charge of the match. Navneet Kaur carried the ball forward and passed it to Sharmila Devi to the left. Devi played it to the far post for Vaishnavi to deflect the ball into the net. India continued to pile on the pressure as Navneet came close to extending the lead but narrowly missed the target. With 34 seconds left on the clock, Australia converted a penalty corner to complete their comeback in the match. Australia improved its performance in the second quarter and started creating goal-scoring chances. Both sides exchanged possession and battled it out in the midfield but they couldn't be separated in the second quarter as India headed into the second half with a goal in hand. Australia was more dominant in the third quarter and caused troubles for the Indian defence. Greta Hayes came teasingly close to scoring a goal as she struck a shot towards an empty net. However, the ball was accidentally stopped by her own teammate. In the 37th minute, Australia was on the attack again and Lawton managed to find the equaliser through a brilliant field goal. Lawton did well to win the ball from an India defender and then unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the circle, past the keeper into the bottom right corner. In the fourth and final quarter, India earned a penalty corner but the Australian keeper was up to the task to keep her side in the contest. In the 54th minute, India won four penalty corners in a row but it failed to find the net. In its third attempt, India was unlucky not to take the lead. Neha fired a shot which took a deflection and struck the post. With 34 seconds left on the clock, Australia converted a penalty corner to complete its comeback in the match. Tatum Stewart played the perfect pass to Pickering who deflected the ball into the net to hand Australia all three points. India next faces Argentina in London on Tuesday. 'It doesn't bother me': Kyrie Irving reacts to Tracy McGrady's big claim on comparison with Jamaal Tinsley

Kyrie Irving has reacted to Tracy McGrady's big claim, where he compared the former NBA guard Jamaal Tinsley's handle to the Dallas Mavericks' All-Star. The controversy arose after Tracy McGrady made the bold claim that Tinsley's ball handling skills were even greater than Irving's — a view that raised eyebrows across the league. 'I don't think nobody had better handles than Jamaal Tinsley, even Kyrie,' McGrady said in a segment, adding a fresh twist to the ongoing debate about who stands out most when it comes to creativity with the ball in their hands. Irving reacted to a comment in a subtle way during a Twitch stream. He made his thoughts clear, emphasising that he's comfortable in his own skin and that comments like these do not diminish his confidence in his game. "When I see an OG like (Tracy McGrady) come out and say 'I don't think nobody had better handles than Jamaal Tinsley, even Kyrie,' it doesn't bother me because I'm a mix of all the great players that came before me," Irving said. The comparison also highlights a rich era in the NBA, when players like Tinsley, McGrady, and now Irving made ball handling a form of artistry. Each has a unique style, adding their own flavour and imagination to their drives and crossovers. 'You never know who's watching you, you never know who's going to be in a position to help you or give you that opportunity,' Irving said.'Just move with grace. It's okay to be a kind person. You don't have to be too cool to say what's up to people. You don't have to be too tough to get along with people. But honor yourself too. Balance that out.' Irving tore his ACL in early March and is currently undergoing extensive recovery and rehabilitation. While the Dallas Mavericks' All-Star guard is expected to make his comeback at some point next season, he's likely to miss a significant portion of the campaign as he works his way back to full fitness.
