Paul Gascoigne's genius payback prank on Ally McCoist at Rangers left him fuming

Rangers legend Paul Gascoigne is a hero at Ibrox, and fans have been left worried after news emerged he had been rushed to intensive care over the weekend, having been discovered collapsed in his home
Paul Gascoigne once sent Ally McCoist around the bend with a hilarious prank meant as payback for not coming out for a drink back when they were team-mates at Ibrox.

The Rangers legend, adored by fans of the club he used to play for, is currently recovering in hospital after being rushed to intensive care on Friday night. Gascoigne was found collapsed at his home by a friend, and is said to now be in a stable condition after being moved to an acute medical unit.

The 58-year-old was reportedly found in a semi-conscious state in his bathroom at his home in Poole, Dorset, before emergency services rushed him to intensive care. Rangers fans and wider football supporters have sent their best wishes to the Ibrox legend, who was well-known for his cheeky antics at the club.

One such moment was when he got one back on fellow Gers icon McCoist, after the fresh-faced striker decided to bin off coming for a drink with the famous 'Gazza'.
Not one to be fooled, Gascoigne told Esports Insider about a time when he landed his team-mate with extra responsibility in the shape of some new furry friends.
The former footballer recalled the hilarious prank as he said: "He didn't turn up for a drink with us one night. And I went mad and I rang him up and said, 'What time do the kids finish school?' He said, '15:30, why?' I said, 'I'm just curious'."

Gascoigne then decided to treat McCoist's children, who were a lot younger at the time, to some new friends to keep – much to Ally's immediate frustration.
He added: "So it was 15:20. I went to a pet shop where we lived, and I bought two budgies in a cage.

"Two goldfish and then a rabbit and a rabbit hutch. I left them outside his door at 15:29. So he rings me up and called me a b******, I said 'What's wrong?' He said his kids had rang him up and thanked him for the new pets!"
This cheeky prank was just one of many gaffes Gascoigne enjoyed during his three-year spell in Glasgow, where he was known for his flair on the pitch and unpredictable antics off of it.
He has long been a fan favourite in Govan. In his debut season at the club, he played an instrumental part in securing Rangers' eighth consecutive league title, including netting a stunning hat-trick against Aberdeen to seal the trophy.
In his first season in blue, Gascoigne was named both PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year.
He went on to lift multiple honours with Rangers before departing for Middlesbrough in 1998.

Jefte Rangers transfer exit confirmed as club bank profit

The transfer deal will see Rangers bank a significant profit on the £800k fee they paid to sign the defender from Fluminense. Palmeiras had identified Jefte as a key target, with talks kicked off last week over an agreement. The transfer deal also includes performance-related add-ons and a sell-on clause. A club statement confirmed: "Rangers Football Club can today confirm the departure of Jefté to Palmeiras for an undisclosed fee. "The 21-year-old, who joined the club in May 2024, made 56 appearances for Rangers during his time in Glasgow. "Everyone at Rangers thanks Jefté for his contribution while at the club, and we wish him well for his future career." Read more: "He was in yesterday morning and things have transpired that he's not here now, but we'll have to wait and see what happens over the next couple of days," Russell Martin told BBC Scotland of a deal for Jefte last week. "It's looking likely he will be on his way and if he goes, he goes with everyone's best wishes and if for whatever reason because this is football it doesn't happen, he'll be welcomed back. "We wouldn't let Jefte go if we didn't have plans to make sure we're not left short there." Rangers had moved quickly to sign Jayden Meghoma on loan from Brentford as Jefte headed for the exit. The full-back made his debut in the Champions League play-off round first leg defeat to Club Brugge on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old has been in talks over a proposed return to Brazil for a number of days, after giants Palmeiras made him their number one transfer target this month. It was revealed the Brazilian outfit were keen on signing the full-back in a"multi-million pound deal - despite a struggling start to his season in Glasgow this summer. He didn't paint himself in the best light against Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic and was at fault for their opening goal in the second leg. But in the aftermath of that disappointing display, the news of Palmeiras' interest continued to ramp up. Jefte was then REMOVED from Rangers' European squad with Martin confirming over the weekend that he had travelled to Brazil. And now, the Sao Paulo outfit have sealed the deal. SunSport understands the Gers have raked-in a huge £6.5million fee for the left-back. That sees the Gers bank a healthy profit on a player they spent just £800,000 on a year ago. In a brief statement online, the Ibrox club said: "Rangers Football Club can today confirm the departure of Jefté to Palmeiras for an undisclosed fee. Rangers MISS OUT on top striker target as failures of loan strategy exposed "The 21-year-old, who joined the club in May 2024, made 56 appearances for Rangers during his time in Glasgow. "Everyone at Rangers thanks Jefté for his contribution while at the club, and we wish him well for his future career." Russell Martin added a left-back reinforcement last weekend. Jayden Meghoma joined on loan from Brentford and was thrust into the action from the start against Club Brugge on Tuesday night. With Ridvan Yilmaz also looking likely to leave Rangers, the Light Blues could look to go back into the market for another player in the position.
