I think every Nintendo Switch 2 owner should play these 11 Switch games first — and Woot has them on sale
Woot is my favorite place to go for Switch game deals. This Amazon subsidiary company has Switch game discounts that are otherwise extremely rare to come by. For example, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is on sale for $45 at Woot. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still worth picking up, even for Mario Kart World owners — it'll get you access to 48 more tracks. Plus, my main boy, Roy the Koopaling, hasn't made the Mario Kart World roster yet, so I would still buy a copy of MK8D just to play as him.
Another must-buy is Animal Crossing: New Horizons on sale for $44 at Woot. In my opinion, it provides one of the most enjoyable and relaxing gaming experiences you can have — and I've gotten over 500 hours of playtime out of this title myself. If we look at the Animal Crossing series' past release schedule, it's possible that we're still a few years out from seeing a new game release on the Switch 2. So I recommend grabbing this deal on Animal Crossing: New Horizons while you can and seeing for yourself why this game is so beloved!
I've rounded up all the essential Switch game deals in Woot's sale below. For more savings, see the deals I'd buy from $8 in Best Buy's Tech Fest sale.
Fans of Donkey Kong Bananza will definitely want to experience some of DK's hit games from the past, and the Switch 2 is a great console to do it on. For starters, you can get Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on sale for $41. With updated visuals and 80 action-packed stages, this is a classic platformer that's a must-play. You'll be navigating challenges like mine carts, rocket barrels and animal companions in solo or co-op play.Price check: $51 @ Amazon
Initially launched on the Wii U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is back and sports a new Funky Mode. In this 2D platformer, you play as one of the Kong clan as they seek to save their island from an invading arctic force. Tropical Freeze is one of the best side-scrolling platformers ever made, and it looks (and plays) even better now.Price check: $48 @ Amazon
One of the best games on Switch, Super Mario Odyssey offers innovative gameplay, creative level design and colorful graphics. There are hundreds of moons to find hidden everywhere from the Luncheon Kingdom to New Donk City, so you'll never run out of things to do in this game.Price check: $59 @ Best Buy
This is one of the games that helped get many people through a tough couple of years after it released in 2020, letting you jet off to an untamed island courtesy of business raccoon Tom Nook. It's up to you to bring civilization to that island and turn it into a villager's paradise.Price check: $51 @ Amazon
Mario's latest side-scrolling adventure is a wonderfully refreshing spin on the classic formula. Venturing to the Flower Kingdom, you'll discover stage-altering Wonder Flowers which can warp levels, create new platforming challenges and even turn Mario into an elephant. Playable in up to four-player co-op, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a platforming marvel for the entire family and one of the very best Nintendo Switch games you can play now.Price check: $49 @ Amazon
This take on the classic monster-hunting formula throws you back in time to find one of the most elusive Pokémon while also braving a wilder version of a familiar world. Legends Arceus is a little different from the Pokémon games you're used to, but it's a good thing.Price check: $48 @ Walmart
If you've ever wanted to construct your own Mario courses rather than just play them, Super Mario Maker 2 is the game for you. Play, create and share your courses with the world and dive into a full single-player story as well. With thousands of user-created courses already available, Super Mario Maker 2 offers a nearly endless supply of new content. Price check: $52 @ Amazon
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of the most popular Switch games available — even years after its launch, it continues to dominate the best-sellers chart. This means any form of discount is pretty rare, but you can currently save on this must-have family-friendly hit. And if you want even more courses, be sure to pick up the Booster Pack DLC that adds 48 new tracks, including fan-favourite picks.Price check: $48 @ Walmart
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate brings together every single character in the fighting franchise's history for a showdown of epic proportions. We might not see a Smash Bros. crossover of this scale again, so this Switch title is a must-have.Price check: $49 @ Amazon
Fans have been waiting a long time for Samus Aran to return to the space-exploration scene in a new Metroid title, and this game was totally worth the wait. You'll be hunting down aliens and fighting for your life against deadly robotic assassins. Whether you're new to the series or an old pro, we highly recommend Metroid Dread.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on the Nintendo Switch is a lovingly crafted remaster of the 1993 classic. Take control of Link as he explores the mysterious Koholint Island, where he'll traverse eight puzzling dungeons as well as an expansive overworld.Price check: $55 @ Best Buy

Amazon Billionaire Jeff Bezos' Mother Dies at 78—2 Years After He Moved to Florida To Be Closer to Her
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' mother, Jacklyn, has died at the age of 78, just two years after the billionaire businessman moved across the country to Florida in order to spend more time with her. Bezos, 61, announced his mom's passing in a touching tribute posted to his Instagram account, in which he praised the way in which she cared for both him and his siblings—having become a mother when she was just a teenager. The businessman, who recently married his new wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, in a stunning ceremony in Venice, also shared his mother's cause of death, revealing that she passed away after a "long fight with Lewy Body Dementia." "Her adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17," he wrote. "That couldn't have been easy, but she made it all work. She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish. "For the rest of her life, that list of people to love never stopped growing. She always gave so much more than she ever asked for. "After a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia, she passed away today, surrounded by so many of us who loved her — her kids, grandkids, and my dad. I know she felt our love in those final moments. We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever." His wife was one of the first to express words of condolence in the comments section, writing: "We will miss her SO much. Love you." Jackie welcomed her son in 1964, when she was just 17 years old and living in Albuquerque, NM. Bezos' biological father, Ted Jorgensen, was just 19 at the time. However, Jorgensen struggled with alcohol issues—and the two, who had wed, quickly divorced, with Jackie later moving herself and her infant son back in with her parents. When Bezos was 4, she wed Mike Bezos, a Cuban immigrant with whom she welcomed two more children; he later legally adopted her first-born son and the Amazon CEO proudly refers to him as his father. Jacklyn, who was known widely as Jackie, is understood to have passed away inside her home near Miami, a stunning waterfront estate made up of two adjacent mansions, which were purchased in 2022 via an LLC linked to Bezos. According to multiple reports at the time, the Coral Gables homes cost a combined $78 million, and have been used by the tech mogul's mother and father as their primary residence ever since. Such was Bezos' close bond with both of his parents that he announced in 2023 he was relocating from his primary residence in a Seattle suburb to Miami so that he could be closer to his mom and dad, who were already living in the Sunshine State. "My parents have always been my biggest supporters," he wrote in a November 2023 Instagram post. "They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of '82 — GO Panthers!) I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami." At the time, despite Bezos' insistence that his relocation was motivated solely by his desire to live closer to his mom and dad, many noted that the move also had another significant benefit: he'd save about $600 million in income taxes, according to CNBC. Still, the businessman had long held a connection to Florida—and Miami in particular—having purchased a staggering estate on the city's famed enclave of Indian Creek Island earlier that year. The property is actually made up of an adjacent pair of mansions that sit on the west side of the island—which were bought in 2023 for $68 million and $79 million, respectively, according to property records. Then, in 2024, Bezos made a surprise third property purchase on "Billionaire Bunker," buying an $87 million six-bedroom mansion that sits some distance from his other two homes on the island. All three deals were conducted via separate trusts, property records show, and only one of the homes had been publicly listed for sale before being snapped up by Bezos, with two of the deals taking place off market. According to reports, the third property will be used by Bezos and his now-wife as their primary residence while workers raze the other two homes to make way for the couple's dream marital compound. It's unclear whether they will hold onto the third abode when this work is completed. Though he relocated to Florida full-time, Bezos still owns a trove of homes in the tony Seattle suburb of Medina, where he lived for many years with his first wife, MacKenzie Scott. Four years after he founded Amazon, Bezos spent $10 million, along with now-ex-wife Scott, buying up two homes that sit on a 5-acre plot in the town of Hunts Point. In 2010, the duo reportedly spent $28 million to extensively renovate the estate, which boasts 310 feet of private shoreline and a private boathouse. To maximize space (and privacy), Bezos also purchased an adjacent property that same year—a 24,000-square-foot mansion that was reportedly listed for $53 million. It is unclear whether the Amazon CEO paid that hefty sum or managed to snag a discount. That home would ultimately serve as the business mogul's primary residence for the next decade until 2023, when he announced his move to Florida. Though he still holds the keys to much of his Seattle property portfolio, Bezos did offload one home in April of this year, selling it off for an astonishing $63 million, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. Bezos made a very hefty profit on the sale of the 9,240-square-foot home, having purchased it for $37.5 million in 2019, the same year he divorced his ex-wife. Solve the daily Crossword

Carrie Bradshaw's Cat Tree Is Worth The Splurge
I got Crosby, a friendly Russian blue-tabby mix, as a kitten. As sweet as he is, almost a year later, he still hadn't grown out of some problematic behavior. The arms of my couch were in shreds and my partner and I hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in months. At night, Crosby loved to run around our room, jump on the bed and claw at the curtains. If we kicked him out, he'd meow and tear at the carpet until we let him in again. We tried all of Google's top suggestions: scratching pads, rosemary spray, calming treats — some were semi-successful, but nothing really worked. I knew Crosby needed a place of his own to sleep, but let's be honest, most cat condos are total eyesores. Although… there was one that kept coming across my Instagram: the Mau wooden cat climbing tree. It was the most beautiful cat tree I'd ever seen and it included a basket bed. It even made a cameo in the most recent season of 'And Just Like That,' when protagonist Carrie Bradshaw assembled it for her kitty, Shoe. (Who, according to the Los Angeles Times, was actually adopted by Sarah Jessica Parker in 2023.) One of the reasons why I decided to invest in a quality cat tree was learning why they're important for cats' well-being. In previous HuffPost reporting, cat behaviorist Stephanie Merlin explained that '[c]ats are both predator and prey, so having a high vantage point is a natural way to help them feel safe and secure.' The different levels and features — like the dangling fluffy ball and roped branch on the Mau tree — encourage play, counteracting boredom. PSA: If your cat is clawing your stuff, they're probably bored. Putting together the Mau cat tree was super simple and only took a few minutes. It just involved connecting the big pieces together using a screwdriver. Once it was assembled, came the big test: Would it be used or be ignored? Crosby noticed his new hangout right away. He sniffed around the base before jumping up to the second platform, eventually jumping up to the basket bed. And then… he went to sleep. Sometimes, Crosby sits on the lower padded level. But usually, you'll find him asleep in the wicker basket. Whenever he's not playing, this is where I find him. It's also (blessedly) where he sleeps at night. The nighttime transition didn't happen immediately; it took time. But now, Crosby knows he has a nice cozy place to sleep and he doesn't wake me up until he's hungry. (Well, most of the time.) Last month, the base of the cat tree became stripped at the screw entry point, causing the tree to collapse. It's nothing against the structure; it happened due to plain old wear and tear. I contacted Mau and they responded immediately, offering to send a new base for free. Amazing, right? Fortunately, Crosby only had to go a few days without his cat tree. Still on the fence about buying it? Check out these reviews from other Amazon shoppers: Get it from Amazon for $259 (available in three colors).
