Security forces kill 33 terrorists infiltrating through Pakistan-Afghanistan border
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the movement of the militants was detected in the general area of Sambaza in Balochistan's Zhob district on the night of August 7-8. Security forces swiftly responded, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours.
A large cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives was recovered from killed terrorists, the ISPR said.

The ISPR also confirmed that a sanitisation operation is underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
Pakistan's security forces remain committed to securing the country's borders and eliminating the threat of terrorism, the ISPR said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised security forces for successfully thwarting an infiltration attempt by India-backed terrorists in the border area of Zhob.
'The security forces' personnel put their lives at risk to foil the terrorists' entry and crush their nefarious designs,' the prime minister said, paying tribute to their bravery, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
He reiterated that the entire nation stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed his government's resolve to eradicate the menace in all its forms.

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was informed on Friday that the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has reported a sharp revenue loss of Rs4.1 billion following the closure of its airspace to Indian airlines, underscoring the economic cost of escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. The closure came after India's unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) on 23 April 2025. In response, Pakistan withdrew overflight permissions for all Indian-registered aircraft – including those operated, owned, or leased by Indian airlines – starting 24 April. Restrictions intensified during the military operation Marka-e-Haq from 6 to 12 May, when India's airspace was also closed, although Pakistan's skies remained largely restricted. This stalemate affected between 100 and 150 Indian flights daily, reducing transit traffic by nearly 20 per cent and severely impacting Pakistan's overflight revenues. Prior to the crisis, the country earned approximately $50,800 daily from such fees. In a written reply submitted to the National Assembly, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif defended the decision, calling it a 'costly but essential sacrifice.' In a separate development, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the government continues to issue liquor licences to prominent hotels in federal capital, including Marriott, Serena, Best Western, and Move-n-Pick Hotel. The fees for these licences stand at Rs500,000 with an annual renewal cost of Rs150,000. Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar announced expanded efforts to counter misinformation. State media outlets including Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, PTV, and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) have bolstered initiatives through a newly established Digital Communication Department and a dedicated 'Fact Checker' X formerly Twitter handle. PM seeks roadmap for $30bn IT export target
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the Ministry of Information Technology to prepare a comprehensive roadmap with annual benchmarks and actionable strategies to surpass the $30 billion IT exports target in coming years. This directive from the prime minister came in the wake of the Ministry of IT, headed by Shaza Fatima Khawaja, not only meeting but surpassing its export target of $3.8 billion in the previous fiscal year. Chairing a high-level meeting on the initiatives of the Ministry of Information Technology and the National Information Technology Board (NITB), Sharif said digitization remained a key government priority to stimulate economic growth and align the national economy with modern global standards. According to officials, IT exports grew by 19 percent in the 2025 fiscal year, while the number of freelancers in the country increased by 91 percent. Under the National Incubation Center, 386 startups received support, with 14 reaching international markets. Additionally, 40 e-Rozgaar (employment) centres were established across 26 cities to facilitate employment in the digital economy. Four Pakistani teams ranked among the top 50 at the Black Hat MEA cybersecurity event. Investment agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth $700 million were signed during the year. The meeting was informed that approximately 315,000 students received IT training, including 115,000 women. Furthermore, 130 women-led startups were supported, and specialised training centres for women were established nationwide. Cybersecurity training was provided to 2,200 federal officers and 3,000 students. In terms of governance reforms, the implementation of the e-Office system has reached 98 percent of federal departments. Tax collection through the Pak-App totalled Rs6.2 billion. Fifty-one new systems have been introduced to improve efficiency and service delivery. The telecom sector also saw significant growth, with 580,000 new users gaining access to 4G services in the past year. Total telecom connections have now surpassed 200 million and internet usage increased by 24 percent. NITB officials reported that the board's restructuring is nearing completion. It currently manages more than 179 websites, 31 mobile applications, 113 portals, and 57 consultancy projects. The restructuring plan includes improvements in user experience, infrastructure modernisation, service delivery, cybersecurity, research and innovation, and workforce development. Punjab introduces drones for enhanced emergency response capabilities

The initiative was showcased at the Civil Secretariat, where Provincial Health Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, Khawaja Salman Rafique, and Secretary Home, Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi, witnessed a live demonstration of the new equipment. The drones demonstrated capabilities including airlifting individuals from dangerous sites, neutralising explosives, and conducting surveillance. Other high-tech tools—such as remote-controlled vehicles, snake cameras, IED drones, anti-drone guns, bomb disposal suits, and mine detectors—were also on display. A bomb disposal robot successfully neutralised an explosive device in an inaccessible location, while a heavy-lift drone carried a 60-kg dummy, showcasing its potential to rescue stranded people from high-rise buildings, fire zones, or rugged terrain. 'This drone service is a major milestone for Civil Defence,' Khawaja Salman Rafique said. 'Our personnel are frontline soldiers during floods and emergencies, and we are equipping them with world-class tools to save lives.' Briefing the minister, Dr Qazi highlighted recent achievements, including the neutralization of 29 Indian drones during heightened border tensions, underscoring Civil Defence's role in both peace and conflict. The Home Department is also developing a mobile application to register citizens as volunteers, aiming to expand community participation in disaster response. 'This app will soon be launched to streamline volunteer registration,' he said. With advanced training for bomb disposal squads and support from district administrations, Punjab is positioning Civil Defence as a modern, well-equipped force to meet evolving security and emergency challenges.
