Funeral director to enter pleas to 63 charges after remains found at premises
A funeral director is due to enter pleas to 63 charges spanning more than 10 years after a major investigation into human remains found at his premises. Robert Bush, 47, faces 30 counts of preventing a lawful burial and 30 counts of fraud by false representation over bodies found at one of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors' sites in Hull. He is also charged with one count of fraud by false representation in relation to human ashes between August 2017 and March 2024, and one count of fraudulent trading in relation to funeral plans between May 2012 and March 2024. Bush is also accused of theft from 12 charities including the Salvation Army, Macmillan Cancer Support, Help for Heroes and the RNLI. The defendant, formerly of Kirk Ella, East Yorkshire, but now of Otley, West Yorkshire, is due to appear at Hull Crown Court for a plea hearing on Wednesday. Humberside Police launched a probe into the funeral home after a report of 'concern for care of the deceased' in March last year. A month after the investigation started the force said it had received more than 2,000 calls on a dedicated phone line from families concerned about their loved ones' ashes. Bush was charged in April, after what officers said was a 'complex, protracted and highly sensitive 10-month investigation' into the firm's three sites in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

TV presenter Jay Blades to appear in court charged with rape
TV presenter Jay Blades is due to appear in court charged with rape. West Mercia Police previously said the 55-year-old, who fronted primetime BBC show The Repair Shop, will face a first hearing at Telford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. Blades faces two allegations of rape but will not be expected to enter pleas during his first appearance. The defendant, of Claverley in Shropshire, found fame on restoration programme The Repair Shop, which he started presenting in 2017. He stepped back from presenting the show last year. Blades also appeared on Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Bake Off and Comic Relief, as well as presenting the BBC's Money For Nothing until 2020.

She was killed while walking to her car, family says. Man, arrested weeks later, is free on bail
A suspect arrested in the fatal hit-and-run killing of a woman in Hollywood in late June had his arraignment pushed back months Tuesday morning and is free on bail. Davontay Robins, 30, was in Los Angeles Superior Court for his arraignment following his July 22 arrest. Erika 'Tilly' Edwards was killed around 9 p.m. June 29; she had just finished performing at a nearby fundraiser, her husband wrote on Instagram. Kris Edwards was mourning the loss of his wife after they 'just bought a house ... to grow our family. We wanted to have kids and we were taking the next step to make a home. And now that's all gone.' Kris' sister Andrea Edwards wrote on a GoFundMe that Edwards was walking back to her parked car when she was struck by a black Mercedes G-Wagon. Robins was charged with felony vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run driving resulting in death, and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license due to a previous DUI, in the death of the 37-year-old Hollywood resident. Robins posted bail, listed at $50,000. His arraignment was continued to Oct. 16, according to the L.A. County district attorney's office. Kris Edwards told CBS News outside court on Tuesday, flanked by family and friends, that he was 'surprised that he was out on bail and that his bail was set so low.' 'It cost me more to bury her than it did for him to get out,' he said. 'Explain that to me. Robins was arrested in Hollywood, only a couple of miles from the scene of the incident. He is charged with striking and killing Edwards near the intersection of West Sunset Boulevard between North Gardner Street and North Sierra Bonita Avenue in Hollywood. He fled the scene and was arrested nearly a month later as police detectives reviewed security footage to identify the driver. Los Angeles police believe speed may have been a factor in the slaying. They impounded Robins' G-Wagon, which according to CBS was found in a body shop with some damaged parts already swapped out.
