B-Side Bangers: Mariah Carey

Neil Libbert
Get into any heated music debate, and the first thing a true fan will do is pull out the deep cuts to defend their favorite hitmaker. Sure, the singles and Billboard #1's will do the trick, but if you really want to win an argument while also gaining some brownie points it's all about coming through with the b-sides.
As we launch 'B-Side Bangers,' a fan-focused editorial series that we'll be curating from time to time for all the audiophiles out there, it really wasn't a hard decision to kick things off with the incomparable Mariah Carey. Ironically enough, the era-defining pop queen has her own reason to celebrate today (5/30) with the release of her latest milestone project, The Emancipation of Mimi: 20th Anniversary Edition .

Recognized by many as her comeback album after a highly-publicized breakdown in 2001, less-than-stellar reviews of her shift into Hollywood with Glitter that same year and the criminally-ignored Charmbracelet in 2002, The Emancipation Of Mimi was a flex in every sense of the word and solidified her as an unbreakable force in the industry with no signs of slowing down. Even a full two decades later, what Mariah proved on this album resonated on future projects and the overall trajectory of her career. We don't even need to mention the legacy alone of 'We Belong Together' as a record-breaking single to make the point clear.
As you get through the greatest cuts on The Emancipation of Mimi: 20th Anniversary Edition , in addition to some new remixes by way of Solange, KAYTRANADA, esentrik and others, take a look at our own b-side playlist that we put together of Mariah Carey deep cuts. We expect diehards to be singing along, and you can thank us later if some of these are new to your ears.

Taylor Swift Keeps Wearing This Belt Brand - And So Do All Your Favorite Celebrities

When Travis Kelce went Instagram official with Taylor Swift last week, eagle-eyed fans everywhere zoomed in for a closer look at that phone background. I, on the other hand, clocked a different detail. Taylor was wearing B-Low the Belt yet again. This belt brand isn't new to fashion insiders. In fact, it's been featured in the glossy pages of ELLE Magazine on several occasions. But as more style stars step out in B-Low the Belt (and as Swift continues to don her ever-growing collection), I figured it was time to let you in on the industry secret. As I said, it really is one of Taylor Swift's go-to accessories that she reaches for time and time again. She's been photographed wearing at least three different styles. Selena Gomez, Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Sydney Sweeney, Sofia Richie Grainge, Florence Pugh, Charli XCX, and Alix Earle are also fans of the woman-owned brand. I'll own up to the fact that I'm not much of a belt wearer, but even I can recognize the transformative power of a good-quality belt. One quick cinch of the waist, and your look is completely elevated. And you and I both know—when Swift does something, the world will follow suit. Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails Basically Just Traded Drummers

Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin will learn to fly with Dave Grohl and co. after they parted ways with Josh Freese – who's going back to NIN Josh Freese's unexpected exit from the Foo Fighters may have hurt, but it didn't throw a monkey wrench into his career: No pretender, the drummer is set to rejoin Nine Inch Nails, whose current drummer, Ilan Rubin, will now learn to fly with the Foo Fighters. It wasn't planned as a trade, but it worked out that way – and in times like these, each band can now wish that they get the best of their respective timekeepers. Rubin, the longtime touring drummer for Nine Inch Nails, was inducted with the band to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Freese replaced the Foos' founding drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2023, but was asked to walk in May for creative-difference reasons that were not made public. Freese said he was 'shocked and disappointed' – but to say he was angry would be a terrible lie, as he wished his heroes well. And it wasn't everlong before Freese found a familiar hand that feeds. Freese had previously played with Nine Inch Nails' live tour from 2005 to 2008, but stepped away when he became a father to focus on his family. NIN confirmed Wednesday that Freese, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are, once again, all in this together – but only with a celebratory Instagram story. And if your head isn't already like a hole, it was Rubin who replaced Freese in 2009. Since it now seems that every day is exactly the same with these bands, he will do so again – but this time with Dave Grohl and his fellow Fighters. The timing couldn't be closer: Both bands are set for major tours, as NIN kicks off its Peel It Back tour next month, while the Foo Fighters will spend all their life on the road starting in October. Post Malone's Ex Drops California Custody Case Over 3-Year-Old Daughter

Post Malone's ex has dropped a court petition that sought to move their three-year-old daughter from Utah to California after intense opposition from the singer. The star (Austin Post) and his ex-girlfriend, Hee Sung 'Jamie' Park, who had a daughter together in 2022, have been fighting over custody arrangements since April. The child is anonymous in court papers. More from Billboard Post Malone Fights Ex's Custody Petition, Says Daughter Belongs in Utah Billboard Live Music Summit & Awards 2025 Date Announced U.S. Government Reveals Seven-Figure Price Tag for Sale of One-Off Wu-Tang Clan Album: Report Park had been seeking through a California court petition to take primary custody of the child in Los Angeles, where she moved after splitting from Post this past fall. Post, however, brought his own custody case in Utah, where he says their daughter has lived most of her life and should remain. The singer's lawyers filed a motion in May to dismiss Park's California petition as unfair 'gamesmanship,' and the matter was scheduled for a hearing next week. But Park has apparently relented, dropping her California case on Monday (July 21). Park dismissed the California case with prejudice, meaning it can't be re-filed. A source familiar with the situation tells Billboard that Park agreed to drop the California case as part of a temporary custody settlement that she and Post have amicably agreed upon, although they will continue to litigate final custody arrangements in the Utah court. It's a win for Post, who wrote in the May court filing that Park 'intentionally' hid from the court that their child — referred to by the initials 'DDP' — has been a Utah resident since birth. 'I do intend to work cooperatively with Jamie to ensure that DDP has frequent and equal custodial time with her mother,' Post wrote. 'However, I do not consent to Jamie's back door attempt to change DDP's residence from Utah to California.' Reps for Post and Park did not return requests for comment on Wednesday (July 23). This story was updated on July 24 at 12:39 p.m. ET to add details about Post and Park's temporary settlement.
