N.Sinai governor: Sisi-Macron visit to El Arish city 'momentous political & economic event'
EL ARISH, Egypt, April 9 (MENA) - Governor of North Sinai Khaled Megawer commended Tuesday's visit by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his French counterpart to El Arish city for being an unprecedented historic event that carried major political and economic implications, saying the visit sparked overwhelming joy among the people of the governorate.
In statements to Nagham FM radio station the governor said, the French president was keen on visiting El Arish Hospital, having a heart-to-heart conversation with the injured Palestinians and getting posted in detail on their unbearable suffering down to the last detail from the 7th of October until their admission to the hospital.
Megawer further noted that the French president asked precise questions to the injured, including the number of their family members and those killed or missing.
Macron attentively listened to poignant details on their suffering; thus clearly attesting to his full awareness of the grand scale of the crisis and his keenness on documenting the unpalatable facts on the ground, said the governor.
President Macron was also shook hands with the medical and nursing staff in the hospital, as he listened and sympathized with the Palestinian cases, he added.
He further noted that the French president was touched by the striking testimonies illustrating misery of Palestinian patients, who expressed their gratitude for the health and humanitarian care provided by the Egyptian State that relieved their excruciating pain, said the governor.
Macron also visited the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC)'s warehouses, he said, noting that the French presidential delegation was also briefed on the mechanism for managing relief assistance and the logistics challenges facing Egypt, particularly during the periods of the Rafah border terminal's closure.
He listened to a detailed explanation from ERC Chairperson Amal Imam about great efforts made in this vital humanitarian file, he added.
The French president also participated in a well-attended conference that brought together international organizations, including the United Nations and UNICEF, to hold in-depth discussion on the current conditions, said the governor.
Meantime, the governor of North Sinai expressed North Sinai's residents' great happiness over president Sisi's presence in Sinai.
Megawer stressed that Macron's visit represented a historic precedent, as no European president had ever visited North Sinai in modern history. (MENA)

Mohamed Mandour The Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Media Observatory for Israeli Crimes against Palestinians reported that there were 460 martyrs and 1,939 wounded in just one week, from June 3 to June 9, 2025. From October 7, 2023, to June 9, 2025, the total number of martyrs reached 56,260, with 134,586 wounded. Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévost has stated that he personally believes the situation in Gaza amounts to genocide. In a recent airstrike, three paramedics and a journalist were killed while recovering bodies in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza. Israeli forces also bombed the Baptist Hospital, resulting in the deaths of four additional journalists, bringing the total number of journalists killed in the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip to 228. The Observatory noted that occupation forces are intensifying pressure on the healthcare sector by doubling the number of wounded, exceeding the capacity of hospitals in the Gaza Strip to provide treatment due to restrictions and a lack of necessary equipment and resources. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor confirmed that occupation forces have deliberately bombed hospitals in Gaza, using pretexts and falsehoods. Occupation forces have also destroyed homes in the Qarara area of Khan Yunis and the Jabalia refugee camp as part of their displacement policy and arming Palestinian militias. Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has stated that the occupation government has a plan that includes imposing sovereignty over Area C, displacing the residents of Khan al-Ahmar, and disrupting the banking system. Additionally, occupation forces have notified the owners of 100 homes in the Jenin refugee camp of their impending demolition. Al-Aqsa Mosque faces almost daily raids, with extremist settlers attempting to bring bloodied meat into the mosque for sacrifice, only to be stopped by Al-Aqsa guards. The occupation authorities continue to prohibit Muslims from entering the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, refusing to hand over the mosque and its facilities to Muslims on the first day of Eid al-Adha, as they have done on Fridays and during Laylat al-Qadr in Ramadan, as well as Eid al-Fitr. Settlers attacked the Armenian Monastery in Al-Quds, spitting on the monastery, crosses, and holy symbols. In the West Bank, the number of raids conducted by occupation forces in cities and towns reached 302, resulting in the arrest of 166 Palestinians. Tragically, they also killed a child in Ramallah and wounded two others in Nablus. Egyptian, Norwegian FMs address regional, international issues
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Espen Barth Eide, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum on June 12, 2025- press photo CAIRO – 12 June 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Espen Barth Eide, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and Norway, and to address regional and international issues of mutual interest. Minister Abdelatty praised the positive developments witnessed in Egyptian-Norwegian relations on both the political and economic levels, noting the meetings and communications that have taken place between the President of the Republic and the Norwegian Prime Minister, most recently the President's visit to Norway in December 2024. Minister Abdelatty also welcomed the convening of a round of political consultations between the two countries in activation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the presidential visit, expressing aspiration to maintain the regularity of political consultations at all levels to elevate the level of bilateral relations. Minister Abdelatty further welcomed the economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of renewable energy, expressing anticipation for the continuation of the implementation of the projects of the Norwegian company Scatec in Egypt and the commencement of new projects that would contribute to increasing Norwegian investments in Egypt. He also referred to the necessity of enhancing trade exchange between the two countries, highlighting the importance of encouraging the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries to explore the possibility of increasing their financing of Norwegian companies operating in Egypt and financing new companies in the fields of clean energy and aquaculture to benefit from the recent economic reforms in Egypt. Minister Abdelatty expressed keenness on tripartite cooperation in Africa, in light of Norway's issuance of a special African strategy in August 2024. The two ministers exchanged views on several regional issues, most importantly the situation in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdelatty valued Norway's supportive stance of the rights of the Palestinian people and its advocacy of the principles of international law. He reviewed the efforts undertaken by Egypt to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, affirming the need to consolidate international efforts to enable the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The meeting also touched upon the situation in Sudan, where Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's supportive position of preserving Sudan's unity, stability, and national institutions. Cooperation with Scatec In a separate meeting, Abdelatty, met on Wednesday, June 11, with the CEO of the Norwegian company Scatec, Terje Pilskog. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of building upon the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Norway in December 2024 and strengthen cooperation with the Norwegian company Scatec. He affirmed Egypt's full support for the company's projects in Egypt, which contribute to enhancing trade and investment relations between Egypt and Norway, expressing aspiration to increase the company's investment volume in Egypt and to implement the company's project to export clean electricity to Europe. Minister Abdelatty also reviewed the policies adopted by Egypt to empower the private sector and attract foreign direct investment, affirming Egypt's interest in supporting foreign companies operating in Egypt, including Scatec, whose projects align with the Egyptian state's direction towards transitioning to a green economy and transforming Egypt into a global hub for the production of green hydrogen. Minister Abdelatty further pointed to the aspiration for a trilateral cooperation with the Norwegian company in Africa to implement development projects, particularly in the field of renewable energy.
