Kusha Kapila on why she lost weight, body image issues: ‘Was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was happy I lost weight'

Hindustan Times7 days ago

Influencer and actor Kusha Kapila recently became the talk of the town when she drastically dropped several kilos. Her weight loss journey was attributed to ozempic by some internet trolls, while a few others praised her for the transformations.
Now, in a video posted on May 30 on her YouTube channel, Kusha is opening up about why she lost weight. In it, she talks about her weight loss journey, childhood trauma around her weight, starving to gain validation, unhealthy weight loss practices she adopted when she was young, struggles with body image issues, and her tuberculosis diagnosis.

Kusha said that though everyone wants to know how I lost weight, she wants people to know why she did it, because that is more important. She shared that the constant discussion around her transformation felt like an out-of-body experience as people labelled her an 'average girl' turned into a 'goddess of beauty'. 'Someone else was talking about my body more than I was…I started feeling like I wasn't even in my body,' Kusha said. This led to her struggles with external validation and internal struggle.
However, this wasn't Kusha's first time losing weight. She started gaining weight when she was 10, and lost weight for the first time when she was just 12 or 13 years old, after people nicknamed her 'motu', a teacher fat-shamed her, and made her realise she was 'fat'.
When she was in 10th grade, she again gained weight, and her mother enrolled her in a gym, which was equivalent to an 'akhada." There she began strength training, doing floor exercises, and running on a treadmill, losing 20-22 kgs. However, it ended up creating deep body image issues that would stay with her for a long time.
When she entered college, she started gaining weight again. At 22, she had gained 10 more kgs and was in an unhealthy state. It was when a friend saw how she was in a bad mental space and told her to 'work on herself' that Kusha joined the gym again. She followed an extreme calorie-deficient diet and lost weight quickly and dramatically.
Eventually, she fell sick. She had a fever that didn't go away for 12 days, and after multiple tests, she was diagnosed with abdominal tuberculosis. 'Women over 25-26 are more prone to TB. I was diagnosed because I had dropped my immunity so drastically…I was losing weight, which I liked. This is how body image issues play with your mind. You are sick, you are losing weight, and you are happy that you are nearing your goal weight,' she confessed.
Then, when her career took off, she ignored her body completely, which led to weight fluctuations. Finally, the influencer recently decided to lose weight again, but in the correct way. 'For the first time in my life, I felt like I wanted to lose weight for myself. I told myself: 'You are by yourself now. You're responsible for everything that happens in your life. Take care of yourself, because no one else is coming'."

Dipika Kakar Out Of ICU After Cancer Surgery, Shoaib Ibrahim Shares Health Update

Last Updated: Last month, Dipika Kakar revealed that she is battling stage 2 liver cancer. Television actor Shoaib Ibrahim has shared the latest health update of his actress wife, Dipika Kakar. The latter, who was recently diagnosed with stage 2 liver cancer, underwent a major surgery on June 3. On Friday, Shoaib took to his YouTube vlogs and revealed that Dipika is now out of the ICU. The actor shared that her condition is improving and that she is feeling better. 'Tomorrow is Eid Al Adha and today on such an auspicious day Dipika is out of the ICU. I am really grateful that she is out of the ICU and she is with us. She was in the ICU for three days and her condition kept improving after the surgery. Around evening, the doctors decided to shift her to the room. She will be here for a few days as the surgery was major, she was in the OT for 14 hours," he said. Shoaib further shared details of Dipika's 14-hour-long surgery and added, 'We all were tensed as doctors had mentioned it would be a long surgery. She was taken in at 8:30 am and she came out of the OT at 11:30 pm. I then met her when they shifted her to the ICU. At 6-7 pm, we all panicked as there was no update from the OT as we had never witnessed such a serious surgery. Thankfully, the doctor had assured me that if they don't come out for updates, then the surgery is going fine and she will be all well." Shoaib mentioned that during the surgery, doctors discovered that Dipika even had a stone in her gallbladder. 'The doctors even removed Dipika's gallbladder as they detected stone and they had to cut a small portion of the liver as the tumour was cancerous. The doctors mentioned that the liver is a self-restorative organ so it shall heal itself with time. So it is not something to be stressed about but we have to stay cautious and take good care," he shared. Last month, Dipika revealed that she is battling stage 2 liver cancer. The television star, known for her role in Sasural Simar Ka, shared the heartbreaking update through an emotional Instagram note. After suffering intense stomach pain, doctors discovered a tumour 'the size of a tennis ball" in her liver, which was later confirmed to be cancerous. Since then, Shoaib has been sharing her health updates on social media. A few days ago, the actor had also shared an emotional video on their YouTube channel, calling it 'the toughest phase" of their lives while remaining hopeful about her recovery. 'Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, the scan report came out clear. The virus or its cells have not spread anywhere else in the body. Whatever is there is confined to the tumour, and once the tumour is surgically removed, Inshallah, things will get better," he said. First Published:

Avantika Malik On Divorce With Imran Khan: ‘Would Never Poison My Daughter Against Him'

Last Updated: Avantika Malik says she would never come between Imran Khan and their daughter, calling attempts to hurt their bond "damaging to the child." Imran Khan's ex-wife Avantika Malik has opened up about their separation and its impact on their daughter Imara, stating that she would never let personal emotions come in the way of their child's bond with her father. In a candid conversation on Nayandeep Rakshit's YouTube channel, Avantika reflected on the emotional challenges of their divorce and the decisions she made for the sake of their daughter. Imran and Avantika parted ways after nearly a decade of marriage. When they broke the news of their separation to their daughter, who was just five at the time, it sparked confusion and fear in the child. 'When we told Imara for the first time that I and Imran were not going to be married anymore, the first question that popped into her head was whether she was going to lose her parents," Avantika recalled. She added that having examples within her family helped Imara understand that both her parents would remain constants in her life. Acknowledging that it's often tough for children to accept new relationships in their parents' lives, Avantika admitted it took time for Imara to adjust. 'Every child has a certain preconceived notion of what a family is supposed to look like," she said. Over time, however, Imara adapted. Avantika shared light-heartedly, 'We joke about it now, and I will ask her whether I should get a new boyfriend or not? She tells me there is no need and it is perfect, just the two of us." Avantika was also asked whether her own relationship with Imran ever interfered with co-parenting. She responded firmly, 'I didn't have a very good relationship with my father in my early years, and I was very clear from the beginning that I did not want that for my child." She added, 'If you decide to poison your child… it's because you are bitter and you have certain resentments. I wanted her to have a very beautiful relationship with him, and me trying to damage that is ultimately going to hurt her." First Published:

Well, that's what former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Golden Tate said. Having spent just eight seasons with them, Tate called the Eagles the most dysfunctional locker room. His reasons? 'The indoor was not like even 100 yards. It was like 60 or 70 yards in a bubble.' Well, that's not all. There's more to his secret sharing! Read on. Tate praised Eagles fans before spilling the beans about their locker room! The former WR for the Eagles shared, 'The most dysfunctional locker room for me was the Philadelphia Eagles, the most dysfunctional place. Now, the fanbase, you want to be on their side - we all know that. They are very passionate. Their fans know their sports.' But inside that locker room? First of all, inside that locker room. The propice locker room was underwhelming. I was like - This is what we got here! The food was great. (Image via Getty) But the indoor? Was not even 100 yards. It was like 60 or 70 yards in a bubble, and we were having to practice with people from Novacare who were actually rehabbing and who were unaffiliated with the organization. We're making a playoff push, and an offensive lineman and one of the coaches got into it about the game before. The offensive line was like - You see, this is how it is supposed to be. Then the coach is like - No m****rf****r, this is how it's supposed to be, I was right last week. They were just going back and forth, and I'm on a line of scrimmage in a walk-through like - What is going on? And Doug (Pederson) is just holding his little postcard with his notes with his little visor on and, just like - Hey guys, stop it. Just calm down. These guys keep going at it, and eventually, one guy throws a ball at the other guy, and they just run at each other and start fighting. I am just sitting on the line of scrimmage like - Is this really happening? We're trying to get to the playoffs right now. 'This is a coach and a player?' curious Taylor Lewan asked. 'This is a coach and a player, bro,' said Tate. (Image via Getty) The Analyst for the Detroit Lions Preseason TV Broadcast Golden Tate shared that Philadelphia Eagles' doctors mishandled many injuries Tate shared, 'Carson(Wentz) had a back injury at some point, right around when I got there, but they didn't know. By the way, their doctors mishandled so many injuries. Like so many! I'm talking about my guy. They had to go to court for it.' 'Talk about malpractice?' curious Taylor Lewan asked again. The former wide receiver for the Detroit Lions replied, 'Yes, yes. It's noted. I mean, Chris Maragos, they mishandled him, and he just settled with them for like bajillion dollars.'
