Kusha Kapila breaks SILENCE on her drastic weight loss journey: 'I was diagnosed with..., was starving...

Kusha Kapila's dramatic weight loss has sparked online buzz, with many speculating that whether she has used popular weight-loss injections like Ozempic. Now, putting all the rumours to rest, the content creator-cum-actress has addressed the real reason behind her transformation. In a candid video on her YouTube, Kusha Kapila shared the difficulties she underwent during her transformatory period. She said that at one point she avoided eating so much that she contracted abdominal tuberculosis, which impacted her both mentally and physically. Kusha said that she was feeling detached from her transformation, like she was watching someone else through constant reels and headlines. She described it as out-of-body experience, as others discussed about her appearance more than she did herself. Kusha Kapila on dealing with body issues since childhood Sharing her experience, Kusha said that her body image issues began early on, as she put on weight at the age of 10 and faced oppressive comments and nicknames such as 'motu.' Even at the age of 12 or 13, she began losing weight, but people continued to scrutinise her about whatever she ate. As she was preparing for her 10th-grade board exams, Kusha Kapila put on a lot of weight which made her mother decide to do something about it right away. With the end of the exams, Kusha's mom signed her up for a gym that resembled a skhada (traditional wrestling arena), insisting that she start to lose weight thereafter. She started working out, doing cardio, strength training and other exercises. She ended up losing 20-22 kilograms in this period. While Kusha was feeling better about how she looked at the age of 15 or 16, internally, her body issues were strong. She said she didn't understand how tough those struggles would last. Like most teens, the positive feedback she got each time she transformed made her think it was the most important outcome. With time, she began to realise, 'Why worry about appearance, at least I'm funny and friendly,' and focused more on her personality than her looks. People noticed that Kusha's humour became something that everyone could connect with. She began to understand people liked her funny impressions, jokes, and unique personality. Because of that new perspective, she felt her body was normal the way it was. Kusha Kapila on her 'unhealthy' weight loss journey By the time she reached 22, she had put on another 10 kgs and faced health problems both physically and mentally. She didn't know what to do, feeling confused about the future and having trouble understanding her own goals. One night, a friend sent her an image, reminding her to concentrate on herself. Kusha was going to the gym but eating only about 800-900 calories per day, mostly simple foods. Because of calorie-deficit diet, it resulted in rapid weight loss but not increase in muscle mass. However, while others admired her thinness, Kusha slowly started doubting whether she should try to get thinner to be noticed or to get healthier. Kusha realised she wasn't eating well, which led her to fever that lasted for 12 days. Several test results left doctors confused until tuberculosis (TB) came out as the possible reason. Because her diet was extremely low in protein, her immunity became very weak, and this eventually led to her being diagnosed with abdominal TB, which happens more often to women of her age who have weak immune systems. Following that, she decided to prioritise her health, and realised she had to look out for herself because no one else would do it for her anymore.

From 800 Calories To Healthier Habits: Kusha Kapila Opens Up About Her Weight Loss

Last Updated: Kusha Kapila revealed that she took to extreme dieting to lose weight. However, that was met with health complications including abdominal tuberculosis. Social media personality turned actor and entrepreneur Kusha Kapila shocked her fans with her drastic weight loss transformation. People took to social media to speculate how she was able to shed a few kilos, from speculations of her using Ozempic to undergoing surgery, Kusha was put under a microscope. Putting an end to all speculation and trolling, Kusha recently shared a candid video where she talked about her weight loss journey. Taking to her YouTube channel, Kusha Kapila opened up about why she chose to lose weight. She talked about how she had struggled with body image issues when she was young, how she starved to lose weight and gain validation, how she used unsustainable methods to lose weight, and how she was diagnosed with tuberculosis. In the video, Kusha mentioned how she had forced herself to go on a calorie-deficient diet as she spoke about the unhealthy ways she used to lose weight. She said, 'I was consuming only 800-900 calories a day, sometimes even less. Because of this extreme calorie deficit, I lost weight very quickly and dramatically. I didn't gain muscle, it was just rapid weight loss." She mentioned how she just ate roti and tomato curry for lunch and dinner. This calorie-deficient diet did more harm than good, as the normal daily calorie intake for a woman is 1,800 to 2,000 calories. This led to multiple health issues, including weakened immunity and abdominal tuberculosis. What Happens When You Go On An Extreme Calorie-Deficient Diet? An extreme calorie-deficient diet may promise rapid weight loss on the scale, but it comes at a steep cost. The body goes into survival mode, and it slows down your metabolism to conserve energy, leading to fatigue, muscle loss, and nutrient deficiencies. Hormonal imbalances can affect mood, sleep, and reproductive health, while hunger and cravings intensify, making it harder to stick to the diet. Over time, this approach can backfire, causing weight regain, binge-eating cycles, and damage to both your physical and mental well-being. Kusha noted how these health issues prompted her to do things differently. She said, 'For the first time in my life, I felt like I wanted to lose weight for myself. I told myself – 'You are by yourself now. You're responsible for everything that happens in your life. Take care of yourself, because no one else is coming.'" How to Lose Weight in a Sustainable, Health-Promoting Way Eat Balanced Meals: Focus on whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats to nourish your body and manage hunger. Watch Portion Sizes: Practice mindful eating and avoid overeating, even when choosing healthy foods. Stay Active Consistently: Aim for regular physical activity like walking, strength training, or yoga to boost metabolism and preserve muscle. Stay Hydrated & Sleep Well: Drink plenty of water and get 7–8 hours of quality sleep to support metabolism and reduce cravings. Set Realistic Goals: Aim for gradual weight loss (0.5–1 kg per week) and focus on long-term habits rather than quick fixes. First Published:

‘At 33, I was offered roles of 50 year old aunties': Kusha Kapila says she isn't ‘answerable to anyone' commenting on her body

Kusha Kapila made headlines after a recent public appearance, when people on the internet couldn't stop commenting on her appearance. Her body transformation sparked discussions around her weight loss journey, diet and speculation about her possible use of Ozempic. Now, Kusha has shared a vlog discussing her weight loss journey and the buzz around it. She said she lost weight as she wants to pursue acting. 'I used to get roles of 50 year old aunties at 33,' said Kusha. In a casual GRWM video, Kusha spoke in length about her weight loss journey. She said, 'Sab janna chahte hai maine weight kaise ghataya, mai apko bataungi kyu maine weight ghataya (I know all of you want to know how I lost so much weight, but I would rather tell you why I lost so much weight).' 'I have watched so many body transformation Reels about me, sometimes I feel I am not even in my body anymore. I am constantly feeling that someone else is talking about my body more than I am so I thought I should talk about it myself,' she said. Kusha revealed this is not the first time she has lost a significant amount of weight. Sharing pictures from her school and college days, Kusha recalled, 'I first gained weight when I was 10. When I was in the 10th grade, my mom put me in a gym and I lost weight, eventually became the head girl of my school. I loved the attention and validation it brought me.' However, Kusha's transformation was short-lived. 'In college, I started to gain that weight all over again. I didn't really know what exactly is body image issues. Instead of working on my body, I started to work on my humour. This made me famous. My teachers also didn't care to focus on my academics, they just loved to hear me talk. At 22, I gained a lot of weight again and after my friend sent me a picture of me and told me, 'Kusha, what's up?' it changed me. In six months, I lost weight in the most unhealthy manner possible. I consumed less than 800 calories a day.' She added, 'By this time, body image issues were so rooted in me that I didn't even know why I lost the weight in the first place. Was it for health reasons or for my need for validation. I kept skipping my meals, and got fevers that stayed for 12 days. Doctors said it might be TB. I got abdominal TB because of eating less. My immunity was compromised. I started to lose more weight as a symptom of TB and weirdly, I was happy about it. This is how body issues play with your mind.' After this, Kusha landed her first job, and this time, she ignored her body to focus on her work as she loved the attention. I did try and eat healthy and try different diets and workouts, but I was not very consistent. I needed balance. I realised this time work has become my validation, once again I was in the validation trap,' she said. 'I kept losing and gaining weight until I moved to Mumbai. I felt extremely lonely here and somewhere I also got adult acne. I did annual body check up, it only had red marks all over it. When I saw doctors, all they had to say is: 'you will have to change your lifestyle.' This motivated me to lose weight.' She said that another reason why she lost weight is that she wants better acting roles. 'I had acting dreams and because I was in a bigger body, I was getting all aunty characters whose age was between 45-50. I didn't want to take up that role at 33. It made no sense to me. I was so lonely in Mumbai and there were so many speculations about my life that I took out all my bhadaas at the gym and worked out,' she said. Kusha said, 'Unlike at 13 and 23, this time I lost weight for myself. Some people even question me for losing weight saying, 'You were all about body positivity.' Body positivity doesn't mean that you cannot want to be healthy or work out. It is about being kinder to all body types.' Without revealing her workout and diet regime, Kusha said, 'Whatever I do with my body, I am not answerable to anyone but people are talking so much c*** that I had to speak about it.' She concluded her video by saying, 'There is no guarantee that I will not gain this weight again. I surely will do if I don't continue to go to the gym at least 3-4 days a week. I have been in and out of too many bodies to take these comparisons and transformation videos seriously.' Previously, Kusha made headlines when she announced her divorce with Zorawar Ahluwalia in 2023.

Kusha Kapila on why she lost weight, body image issues: ‘Was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was happy I lost weight'

Influencer and actor Kusha Kapila recently became the talk of the town when she drastically dropped several kilos. Her weight loss journey was attributed to ozempic by some internet trolls, while a few others praised her for the transformations. Now, in a video posted on May 30 on her YouTube channel, Kusha is opening up about why she lost weight. In it, she talks about her weight loss journey, childhood trauma around her weight, starving to gain validation, unhealthy weight loss practices she adopted when she was young, struggles with body image issues, and her tuberculosis diagnosis. Also Read | Weight loss coach shares 20 vegetarian protein sources she ate to lose 40 kgs Kusha said that though everyone wants to know how I lost weight, she wants people to know why she did it, because that is more important. She shared that the constant discussion around her transformation felt like an out-of-body experience as people labelled her an 'average girl' turned into a 'goddess of beauty'. 'Someone else was talking about my body more than I was…I started feeling like I wasn't even in my body,' Kusha said. This led to her struggles with external validation and internal struggle. However, this wasn't Kusha's first time losing weight. She started gaining weight when she was 10, and lost weight for the first time when she was just 12 or 13 years old, after people nicknamed her 'motu', a teacher fat-shamed her, and made her realise she was 'fat'. When she was in 10th grade, she again gained weight, and her mother enrolled her in a gym, which was equivalent to an 'akhada." There she began strength training, doing floor exercises, and running on a treadmill, losing 20-22 kgs. However, it ended up creating deep body image issues that would stay with her for a long time. When she entered college, she started gaining weight again. At 22, she had gained 10 more kgs and was in an unhealthy state. It was when a friend saw how she was in a bad mental space and told her to 'work on herself' that Kusha joined the gym again. She followed an extreme calorie-deficient diet and lost weight quickly and dramatically. Eventually, she fell sick. She had a fever that didn't go away for 12 days, and after multiple tests, she was diagnosed with abdominal tuberculosis. 'Women over 25-26 are more prone to TB. I was diagnosed because I had dropped my immunity so drastically…I was losing weight, which I liked. This is how body image issues play with your mind. You are sick, you are losing weight, and you are happy that you are nearing your goal weight,' she confessed. Then, when her career took off, she ignored her body completely, which led to weight fluctuations. Finally, the influencer recently decided to lose weight again, but in the correct way. 'For the first time in my life, I felt like I wanted to lose weight for myself. I told myself: 'You are by yourself now. You're responsible for everything that happens in your life. Take care of yourself, because no one else is coming'."

Kusha Kapila opens up about rapid weight loss journey: ‘I was diagnosed with tuberculosis…was starving…'

Internet influencer, and actor Kusha Kapila has been making news with her drastic body transformation for quite some time. At a time when many celebrities are accused of turning to Ozempic, crash diets, and quick fixes for weight loss, Kusha Kapila broke the silence about her weight loss. In the latest video on her YouTube channel, Kusha talked about why she lost her weight. She also revealed her childhood trauma, starving for validation, struggling with body image issues and her tuberculosis diagnosis. 'For the past month, I've been seeing so many transformation reels of myself that I started feeling like I wasn't even in my body," Kusha said, talking about viral videos of her body transformation. She called it 'a constant out-of-body experience," and said that she felt like 'someone else was talking about my body more than I was." Talking about being labelled an 'average girl" to becoming a 'goddess of beauty" as mentioned in Google alerts and news, she said she struggled with external validation and internal struggle. Recalling what people said, Kusha said, 'They would write things like 'Average girl turned into a goddess of beauty.'' However, this wasn't her first weight loss journey, the actor revealed. Kusha said she first lost weight when she was 12 or 13. She shared how people called her nicknames like 'motu' in childhood, Kusha said, 'I started gaining weight when I was 10.' But, things changed for her after she lost weight. She remembered how people closely watched what she ate and drank, making her body a public spectacle. She said that by the time she was in 10th grade, she again gained weight. Her sudden weight gain worried her mother who enrolled her in a gym which she described as an 'akhada." At the gym, she said she began strength training and running on a treadmill, losing 20-22 kgs. "I lost about 20-22 kilos during that time," Kusha shared. While her body changed, it rooted body image issues in her mind. 'At 15 or 16, I was becoming beautiful, but I didn't realise how deep my body image issues had gone and how long they would stay with me." 'You don't realise it, you just look at before-and-after makeovers and think that the attention you get is the best thing in life," she added. With time, Kusha told herself to let it go and shifted focus on her now-signature humour and comedy. "People liked me for my jokes, my antics, my impersonations. So, my body didn't feel like something I needed to work on." However, the issue returned to her when she was 22. "I had gained 10 kilos more, and I was in an unhealthy state with no idea about what I wanted in life," Kusha said who felt "completely clueless." Things changed when a friend told her over text: 'Kusha, I think it's time to work on yourself." 'He said it with love," Kusha clarified. 'He was into fitness and could see I was in a bad mental space." Kusha said she joined the gym once again. 'I was consuming only 800-900 calories a day, sometimes even less," she revealed. She opted for a calorie deficit diet. 'Because of this extreme calorie deficit, I lost weight very quickly and dramatically. I didn't gain muscle—it was just rapid weight loss." Her unhealthy means to lose weight fetched her compliments. 'People started saying things like, 'Wow, Kusha, you look so amazing! What have you done?'" But, inside she was starving herself. 'I was starving," Kusha said. 'I didn't even realise why or for whom I was losing weight. Was it for health? Or just for the validation?" Eventually, her body gave up. After suffering from an evening fever that wouldn't go away for 12 days, doctors suspected something. 'After multiple tests, they couldn't figure it out. Then one doctor suggested it might be tuberculosis." She developed abdominal tuberculosis. 'Women over 25-26 are more prone to TB. I was diagnosed because I had dropped my immunity so drastically," she admitted. The 33-year-old actor said she decided to lose weight again but in the correct way. 'For the first time in my life, I felt like I wanted to lose weight for myself. I told myself—'You are by yourself now. You're responsible for everything that happens in your life. Take care of yourself, because no one else is coming.'" Kusha will be next seen in the upcoming season of Maamla Legal Hai.
