Commitments have started to pick up steam in the 2026 cycle and as a result, programs are getting a better idea of which targets are the most important moving into the spring portion of the cycle.
Here are the must-get targets for each Big Ten program in the 2026 class.
BIG TEN RECRUITING RANKINGS: 2025 | 2026

CLASS OF 2025 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State

The Illini are the surprise of the conference so far with their 2026 recruiting class. But it will fall flat if it doesn't land the four-star in-state tight end.

After a magical season in 2025 the Hoosiers need to lock down more four-star talent. The in-state defensive lineman would give a major boost to recruiting efforts.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH INDIANA FANS AT THEHOOSIER.COM
The Hawkeyes already hold a verbal from the California signal-caller. But keeping him committed is huge since he was the top quarterback target of offensive coordinator Tim Lester.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH IOWA FANS AT HAWKEYEBEACON.COM
When the Terps landed an early commitment from Elee it shocked everyone. Holding onto him and getting him to sign would be a signature recruiting win for the program.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MARYLAND FANS AT TERRAPINSPORTSREPORT.COM
Sadler is the perfect fit for making the Wolverines' offensive attack more dynamic. Keeping him home would send a message about what skill recruits think about the direction of the program.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MICHIGAN FANS AT MAIZEANDBLUEREVIEW.COM
The four-star offensive lineman has ties to the program and coach Jonathan Smith has been recruiting him hard for a long time. Landing the in-state lineman over Michigan, Penn State and Notre Dame would be massive.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MICHIGAN STATE FANS AT SPARTANSILLUSTRATED.COM
It feels like the four-star safety is destined to play in the Big Ten. So keeping him away from rivals and landing a talented defensive back would be huge for the Gophers.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MINNESOTA FANS AT THEGOPHERREPORT.COM
The talented running back has game-breaking ability but is also from a familiar high school to Nebraska fans. The Huskers also need to continue expanding the pipeline in Missouri.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NEBRASKA FANS AT INSIDENEBRASKA.COM
Jackson is a two-way standout that could play receiver or safety in college. Pulling him out of Nebraska would be a major coup for the Wildcats.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NORTHWESTERN FANS AT WILDCATREPORT.COM
The one nitpick about the Buckeyes' recruiting efforts is they don't land enough game-changing defensive linemen. Geralds is a contender to join the class and he'd fit the bill.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT DOTTINGTHEEYES.COM
The Ducks are in the hunt with several elite offensive linemen this cycle. But the one who would make the biggest splash on and off the field is Cantwell.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OREGON FANS AT DUCKSPORTSAUTHORITY.COM
Penn State already has a few receiver commits but needs the cherry on top of a good potential haul. Snagging Brown over Georgia and Michigan would be huge.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT HAPPYVALLEYINSIDER.COM
Bardo is one of the top prospects in Indiana this cycle and has a lot of potential upside when he gets to college.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PURDUE FANS AT BOILERUPLOAD.COM
It's been since the 2012 recruiting cycle since Rutgers landed the top prospect in New Jersey. Wafle would buck that staggering trend.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH RUTGERS FANS AT THEKNIGHTREPORT.COM
It's going to be hard for the Bruins to pass Oregon or Ohio State for the defender but he's exactly what the Bruins need to change perceptions in-state.
The Trojans have been the perceived leader for Lyons for much of his recruitment. Getting him in the class before his religious mission would be massive.
Washington doesn't get a ton of four-stars in the state so the Huskies need to make them count. Colman-Brusa could be a cornerstone of the 2026 class.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH WASHINGTON FANS AT DAWGREPORT.COM
The Badgers have made the four-star from Ohio a major priority. Landing him over Ohio State, Michigan and others would show a positive trajectory for the program.

Illinois Defense Preview 2025: The Fighting Illini D Will Be One of the Big Ten's Best

The defense finished 14th in the Big Ten, was miserable at generating third down stops, and didn't do much at coming up with any tackles for loss. But outside of a few weird performances - like, allowing 49 points to Purdue, 31 to Rutgers, and 28 to Northwestern, all wins - it found ways to bend hard without a ton of breaking. 2025 Illinois Preview Illinois Offense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to Season- The secondary is loaded. Almost all of the stars are back, starting with All-Big Ten safety Xavier Scott and fourth-leading tackler Miles Scott. These two are all over the field - Scott is one of the conference's best ball-hawkers - and junior Matthew Bailey is getting to everything else. The team's leading tackler with 94 stops and seven broken up passes, Bailey is about to get a whole lot more corners aren't as strong as the safeties, but they're good. Kaleb Patterson, Jameim Clarke, and Torrie Cox Jr. weren't always air-tight, but they're veterans who know what they're doing. - The linebackers will push the safeties for the star power. Gabe Jacas is a game-wrecking pass rusher, earning All-Big Ten honors, making 74 tackles, eight sacks, and 13 tackles for loss. Fifth-year senior Leon Lowery comes in from Wisconsin - he was great at Syracuse for two years before going to Madison - to work on the other side. Dylan Rosiek eats up tackles in the middle, but he got knocked out with a broken leg. He's expected to be back and fine, and Kenenna Odeluga should step up after getting his feet wet last year. They'll do the dirty work to let the outside guys shine. - The Illini might be loaded with experience across the board, but the defensive front will be all about the transfer portal. Former Wisconsin Badger James Thompson was one of the biggest and best gets in the portal - more on him in a bit - and Tomiwa Durojaiye has a world of upside, but without a ton of stats at West Virginia and then Florida State. 6-0, 300-pound Curt Neal (Wisconsin) is a bowling ball who can hold up on the nose. Illinois Offense Preview 2025: The Fighting Illini Are Loaded

The Illinois offense only averaged 365 yards per game. It didn't run well, it wasn't explosive, and it didn't come up with a ton of first downs, but it didn't turn the ball over in bulk, and when things were working, it kept games in total now it comes back transfer portal is helping with the depth and options, but if you liked what you saw last year out of the starting 11, get ready for more, starting with ... X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN2025 Illinois Preview Illinois Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to Season - Luke Altmyer is back for a third season, throwing 35 touchdown passes after transferring over from Ole Miss in 2023. He runs just well enough to be a positive, but his fifth-year senior leadership will be the biggest positive. Ethan Hampton (Northern Illinois) is a capable backup who can move. - The offense might be loaded with veterans, but it's losing the combination of Pat Bryant and Zakhari Franklin. Those two led the way with 109 catches, and now it's up to Malik Elzy to rise up on the outside, and Collin Dixon and Hank Beatty to step up in the slot. Hudson Clement (West Virginia) and Justin Bowick (Ball State) are deep play threats. The tight ends aren't stars, but they can bring the pop. Tanner Arkin caught 16 passes with three scores last year. - Leading rusher Josh McCray took off for Georgia, but the Illinois running backs are good if they can stay in one piece. Aidan Laughery was second on the team with 589 yards and four scores, Kaden Feagin is a 250-pound load, and there's just enough depth to be okay. - The line is loaded with experience, and now it has to be far stronger. It was decent for the ground game, but the pass protection needs tweaking. JC Davis is an All-Big Ten left tackle, and Melvin Priestly has a world of upside on the other side, if he doesn't kick inside to Josh Kreutz should be an all-star, and guards Josh Gesky and Brandon Henderson are massive 325+ pound blasters. ChatGPT AI-driven NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery

ChatGPT AI-driven NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery ChatGPT AI is predicting Jase Richardson to land just outside the lottery in the upcoming NBA Draft. USA TODAY Sports released their latest NBA Mock Draft driven by ChatGPT AI, and Richardson landed right about where most human draft experts are predicting. The computer model had Richardson going No. 17 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Richardson starred for the Spartans during his lone season in college, playing a massive part in Michigan State winning the Big Ten and reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Richardson averaged 12.1 points per game and shot above 40% from three-point range, which raised his draft stock to where it was a no-brainer to enter the NBA Draft and leave after just one year. Richardson has been commonly mocked to land anywhere from late lottery pick to late first round pick. Most of the recent mock drafts I've came across have him landing just outside the lottery like we saw here from USA TODAY Sports' ChatGPT AI mock draft. The NBA Draft will be held on July 25 and 26 in Brooklyn. The draft will be televised on ABC and ESPN.
