Son Heung-Min Set To Join MLS Club, Will Play For...

Last Updated: The South Korean international is expected to join a Major League Soccer club after bidding farewell to Tottenham Hotspur last week. Son Heung-Min, the South Korean international, is reportedly set to join Major League Soccer (MLS) after announcing his departure from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur last week. The 33-year-old is expected to sign with MLS club Los Angeles FC, according to ESPN, with a formal announcement scheduled for Wednesday (August 6). Quoting sources, the publication reported that Son will join the Los Angeles team for a fee of around $26 million, following his 10-year tenure with Spurs. Upon leaving Spurs, the seasoned forward did not reveal his next destination, but it is now being widely reported he has inked a deal with the American club. The fee would make Son the breakout star of the MLS, surpassing Atlanta United FC's $22 million signing of Emmanuel Latte Lath last winter. In his final appearance for Spurs, Son played against Newcastle United in a 1-1 friendly match in Seoul on Sunday, August 3. He received a standing ovation and a guard of honour from both sets of players when substituted in the second half. 'It was a perfect moment. Sharing these beautiful moments is something that I will never forget and I will always appreciate it — from the fans, the players and the gaffer. He understood my situation and was always on my side. He always listened to me and asked what I wanted to do. I have huge respect and am very grateful," he said. LAFC appears to have outbid a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad to secure the player. Son joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen and became only the seventh player to reach 450 appearances for the club, including winning his first trophy when they famously defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final earlier this year. During his Spurs career, Son scored 198 goals and played a crucial role in the club's success. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Dismayed And Saddened': FIFA President Offers Support To Female Referee After Death Threats

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has backed referee Katia Itzel Garcia after she was abused online over a Leagues Cup decision. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has voiced his support for referee Katia Itzel Garcia and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) after Garcia revealed she was subjected to online abuse following a Leagues Cup match. Garcia, who has officiated in men's competitions such as Liga MX, the Gold Cup, and the Olympic Games, reported receiving death threats after refereeing the Leagues Cup match between FC Cincinnati and Monterrey on Thursday. Her decision to award a goal to the MLS side, which appeared to be offside, incited outrage among Monterrey fans after Cincinnati won 3-2. 'I am dismayed and saddened by the threats against referee Katia Itzel following her performance in the Leagues Cup first round matches between Monterrey and Cincinnati," Infantino wrote on his Instagram account on Monday. 'There is no place in football and society for abuse, discrimination, and violence of any kind." 'At FIFA, we stand in solidarity with the FMF and CONCACAF in condemning the actions of those who make these unacceptable threats. We offer our unconditional support in holding those responsible to account." The FMF stated on Saturday that it 'will advise and accompany Garcia in the complaint process before the corresponding authorities".
