This isn't a surprise, but NBA Commissioner confirmed what had already been discussed: The 2026 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles will be a USA vs. World format.

This is a natural fit, given that the All-Star Game broadcast is moving to NBC and falls during the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics next February. While Silver was vague on details, this is expected to be a Ryder Cup-style format, featuring the USA vs. the World.
Will that get players to actually care about the All-Star Game rather than just go through the motions? Asked about it last All-Star weekend, the international players seemed more enthusiastic about the idea than the Americans.
'I would love that. Oh, I would love that,' the Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo said. 'I think that would be the most interesting and most exciting format. I would love that. For sure, I'd take pride in that. I always compete, but I think that will give me a little bit more extra juice to compete, like having Shai, Jokic, Luka, Wemby, Towns, Sengun. I know those players — obviously I'm missing some guys that I cannot think from the top of my head, going against the best U.S. players. I think it would be fun. I think that would be the best format.'
'I would love to. My opinion is that it's more purposeful,' the Spurs' Victor Wembanyama said. 'There's more pride in it. More stakes.'
The top end of a hypothetical world roster would be stacked — the last seven MVP winners were international players. The world team would feature Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, Antetokounmpo, Wembanyama and more. An American team likely would feature LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, and Jalen Brunson, and its roster likely would be deeper than the World Team.
It's going to be entertaining to watch when it rolls around next February.

Craig Kimbrel is returning to the Atlanta Braves bullpen. The Braves are calling up their former All-Star closer from Triple-A Gwinnett, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported on Thursday. Atlanta officially announced the move on Friday, adding that reliever Daysbel Hernández (2.22 ERA in 25 appearances) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right forearm inflammation. Advertisement The decision was likely prompted by the Braves blowing a six-run lead in the ninth inning Thursday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks, leading to an 11-10 loss. Atlanta took a 10-5 lead into the ninth. Three of Arizona's first four batters reached base against Scott Blewett, including home runs by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Alek Thomas. Raisel Iglesias relieved Blewett and didn't fare better, allowing five of the next six batters on base with RBI hits by Ketel Marte, Ildemaro Vargas and Eugenio Suárez resulting in four runs and an Arizona lead. Ultimately, five runs were charged to Blewett and Iglesias gave up the lead with the three he allowed. "We're not a bad team. We're a good team that's playing bad," Braves manager Brian Snitker said after the game. "We're all going to be miserable, and we should. We didn't execute and put the game away, and we've got to do that." With the loss, Atlanta dropped to 27-34, placing them fourth in the National League West and 11 games behind the first-place New York Mets. The Braves are also seven games out of the NL's third wild-card playoff berth. Advertisement In 18 minor league appearances this season (15 for Gwinnett), Kimbrel has compiled a 2.00 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 18 innings with 8 walks and 9 hits allowed. Kimbrel, 37, pitched the first five seasons of his career with the Braves, collecting a 1.43 ERA and 186 saves in 294 appearances. He won the 2011 National League Rookie of the Year award and made four All-Star teams during his stint with Atlanta. The right-hander was traded to the San Diego Padres before the 2015 season and he's played for six other teams since then. Last season, he had a 5.33 ERA for the Orioles in 57 appearances despite a strikeout rate of 12.6 per nine innings and was released in late September. Advertisement However, Kimbrel had a 2.80 ERA, 53 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings and 23 saves before the All-Star break. 'Hopefully, he can replicate what he did the first half of last year,' Snitker said when Atlanta signed Kimbrel in the spring. 'It would be awesome if he could come in and do that." During his 15 MLB seasons, Kimbrel has compiled a 2.59 ERA and 440 saves with a strikeout rate of 14.1 per 9 innings. Blewett's outing was his last for the Braves. The team announced that he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday for cash considerations. Atlanta was planning to DFA Blewett (5.51 ERA in 11 games) after Thursday's game, but worked out a deal with Baltimore. It's a return to Baltimore for the right-hander, who appeared in two games for the Orioles before being designated for assignment and traded to Atlanta. Blewett began the season with the Minnesota Twins, but received a DFA and was picked up by the Orioles.

Former St. John's guard RJ Luis explains decision to remain in 2025 NBA draft St. John's junior RJ Luis said Friday that he is enjoying the opportunity to prove himself in team workouts ahead of the 2025 NBA draft on June 25-26. Luis was a consensus second-team All-American last season, averaging 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, two assists and 1.4 steals on 33.6% shooting from 3-point range. He was also named the Big East Player of the Year, becoming the third player in program history to win the award. The 6-foot-6 guard entered the transfer portal following the season while also declaring for the draft. He opted to remain in the draft before the early entry withdrawal deadline, a decision that his head coach, Rick Pitino, completely backed. "I had an amazing year, and I think I deserved to take the next step in my journey," Luis said after working out with the Sacramento Kings, via Sean Cunningham of KCRA-TV. "The whole coaching staff and St. John's were supportive of my decision. It is great to leave there being a member of St. John's and not having to go to a different school or stuff like that." Luis registered 14 20-point games this past season, including a season-high 30 points and 10 rebounds on Jan. 11 in a win over Villanova. He was one of two players in the conference to rank in the top five in both scoring and rebounding. The 22-year-old competed in the draft combine last month, averaging 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in two scrimmage games in Chicago, Illinois. He also registered the 11th-highest max vertical jump among all participants this year (38 inches). Luis has visited 10 teams so far this draft cycle, including the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns. He is embracing the predraft process and looking forward to his remaining workouts. "Everything is just really a blessing," Luis said. "Coming from where I come from, being out of Miami, not a lot of guys come out of there, so it is truly a blessing to be able to get these workouts. ... This is great. I'm blessed to be here."
