
A Bosque has opened in Casa da Guia with cheese and charcuterie boards (and lots of music)
Casa da Guia has just welcomed a new resident. Meet Bosque, currently in soft opening since mid-May, with an official launch slated for June 3rd. It's the latest neighbour to the Amazonian jungle vibes of Palaphita and the brainchild of influencer Rui Figueiredo, alongside co-founder Samuel Castro.
Three years ago, the duo launched Pastaça – a fresh pasta grab-and-go concept served in a bowl. Rui Figueiredo is also the name behind DoCereal, a brand specialising in seeds.
"On a visit to Casa da Guia, we noticed a patch of woodland – a bit of forest that had been left untouched, completely abandoned," Rui tells Time Out Cascais, recalling how Bosque came to life. "I looked at it, sat down with the management and pitched the idea of bringing Pastaça here."
But Casa da Guia was already home to a solid Italian restaurant. "So I took a bit more time to think, explored the space further, and when I realised the view was truly something special, I decided to create a new concept – one that reflects products I love and that come from my own region: I'm from the Serra da Estrela area."
The stars of the menu are the Bosque Board (€26), piled high with farinheira, chouriço, secretos, Brie, Serra cheese, olives, bread and presunto; the Grill Board (€14), featuring farinheira, morcela and chouriço; and the Cheese Board (€14), a rich spread of creamy Serra cheese, Brie, goat's cheese, jam and olives.
Another solid option is sandwiches. The Bosque Sandwich (€12) is a hearty combo of secretos, Brie, farinheira and chouriço; there's also a suckling pig sandwich (€11.50), a secretos sandwich (€9.50), and even a suckling pig plate (€17). Try the ham croquettes (€2.50 per piece), the suckling pig rissoles (€2.50 per piece) or the oysters (€12 for six pieces).
Rui Figueiredo says that they are introducing salads to the menu for those looking for a light, fresh meal with a privileged view of the Atlantic. And of course, there's no shortage of drinks to go with it, including the house sangrias: piña colada (€20 for one litre, €28 for two), apple (€18 for one litre, €26 for two), or sparkling wine (€18 for one litre, €26 for two).
'Alongside great food and drinks, we're planning themed events with both individual and group tables,' says Rui Figueiredo. 'We'll have regular live music – DJs, samba circles, cante alentejano nights, fado, and wine tastings. We want to be versatile enough that a guest can come to us and say, 'I'm throwing a birthday for 30 or 40 people, I want a themed night with this kind of music, performed live' – and we'll make it happen. We'll plan it, set a budget and get it going.'
Right now, there are 95 seats available, but in the evenings – especially when the music's on – the vibe will shift to something more relaxed, where people can stand, chat over drinks, and maybe even have a little dance. 'We'll also have a dedicated area for shisha, and yes – the space is pet friendly too.'
Still in its early days, the team is open to customer feedback and flexible about how the project evolves. 'It's the public who tells us what they want,' says Rui. 'We can add items to the menu or, for example, tweak the opening hours – which for now are still provisional. We have a direction, of course, but it's all still adaptable.'

The first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is out, with scenes filmed at a haunting estate in Aberdeenshire. The first trailer has landed for Guillermo del Toro's long-awaited adaptation of Frankenstein, and Scottish horror fans may recognise a hauntingly familiar backdrop. Last year, film crews descended on Aberdeenshire to shoot scenes for the highly anticipated Netflix production. Among the key locations was the atmospheric Dunecht House, a grand 19th-century mansion nestled in the north-east countryside, and the perfect setting for a gothic tale of monsters and madness, Aberdeen Live reported. With its dramatic granite façade, Greek and Italian architectural flourishes, sweeping arches and Scottish baronial towers, the stately home looks as though it was plucked straight from the pages of Mary Shelley's original novel. Little wonder then that del Toro and his team chose it as one of the film's centrepieces. Dunecht House dates back hundreds of years and was originally built as a replacement for a nearby mansion. Over time, it grew in scale and grandeur, boasting 24 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a 120-foot library, and even an observatory. Once a social hub for Scotland's elite, the estate hosted an annual ball attended by high-ranking families from the likes of Cluny Castle and Drum Castle. Beyond its architectural splendour, the mansion sits within breathtaking grounds, which are listed on the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, a designation reserved for spaces of historical and artistic significance. Among the highlights are two formal terraces and a variety of landscaped gardens. But what truly cements its horror credentials is the house's otherworldly reputation. Locals have long whispered about strange goings-on behind its heavy doors, lending it an eerie mystique that makes it tailor-made for a chilling film like Frankenstein. According to the official logline, the film tells the story of 'a brilliant but egotistical scientist [who] brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.' Oscar Isaac stars as Dr Victor Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi portraying the infamous Monster. Lidl shoppers 'obsessed' with new ice cream and can't believe price
People are 'running to Lidl' after spotting a new Italian-style ice cream available in mouthwatering flavours, and some shoppers are saying they are the 'best ever' It's no secret that summer and ice cream go hand in hand. On average, each person in the UK eats around nine litres of ice cream per year. This puts Brits in the top 10 globally for ice cream consumption, according to Little Moons. While all types of ice cream are great, Italians are known across the world for their gelato - which is often handmade with less butter fat and air than other frozen desserts contain, making the flavours more intense with a creamy and smooth texture. Some historians believe gelato was first invented on the island of Sicily in the ninth century, with the recipe having been adapted since then. However, others think the gelato we know today was invented by Cosimo Ruggeri and Bernardo Buontalenti in the 16th century. While 'normal' ice cream is more easily accessible in the UK, there are still ways you can enjoy the Italian version without having to leave the country. And Lidl has now made it even more accessible, selling their version of Italian-style ice cream that has people 'running' to the shops to get their hands on a tub or two. Taking to TikTok, Freya Watkins shared a video clip she took as she was doing her shopping in Lidl on 31 May when she spotted the ice cream tubs in the freezer section. With flavours such as hazelnut praline, raspberry cheesecake, vanilla pecan crunch and banana chocolate caramel swirl, it's easy to see why people have shared their enthusiasm, which is retailing for £3.49 per tub. Another social media user, Lucy Gibb, decided to do a taste test, trying the hazelnut praline, raspberry cheesecake, and banana chocolate caramel swirl flavours, and they all got raving reviews. First up was the raspberry cheesecake which scored an 11/10, with Lucy explaining: "Reminds me of my childhood [favourite] Mr Whippy with raspberry sauce!" Next up was the hazelnut praline, which Lucy said tasted similar to a Kinder Bueno chocolate bar, earning it a score of 8.5/10. And scoring a 9/10 was the banana chocolate caramel flavour, which Lucy said she was surprised by. "Did not expect to like this as I don't enjoy artificial banana but it did not give this at all - really yummy," she wrote on her post. Several people quickly took to the comments of the two videos with many saying they were desperate to try the ice cream. "There are not enough banana flavoured desserts in this world this looks incred," one person said, as another viewer wrote: "seeing this video after buying the vanilla pecan crunch, it's soooo good." The trendy one by the water Canal, Westbourne Park With perfect summer timing comes the June 30 opening of Canal. With a prime position next to the Grand Union Canal, it comes from the same sturdy stable as Crispin and Bistro Freddie. New York chef Adrian Hernandez Farina is helming a very 2025 menu of bistro bangers, from polenta flatbreads to seabream crudo with burnt blood orange and ricotta agnolotti with cavolo nero and pecorino. But the slickest thing about Canal? Nicholas Daley has designed the staff uniforms – including a kilt. 11B Woodfield Road, Westbourne Park, W9 2BA 5. The new Big Mamma one Barbarella, Canary Wharf It's been a while since Big Mamma launched one of their outre trattorias in London, but Barbarella is making up for lost time, with a massive mirrored glass bar, 1970s-style chrome lounge area, and walls draped with silk. A pervy kind of paradise, by the sounds of things. Food is set to be equally over-the-top; caramelised tomato tatin with Parmigiano cream, a mega 1.2kg T-bone steak, and a one-metre long spaghettone. The fabulous fish one Noisy Oyster, Shoreditch A fishy new spot from Madina Kazhimova and Anna Dolgushina from Soho's Firebird, Noisy Oyster is all about seafood classics from Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France but made with local, UK catches. The menu is inventive, verging on the pleasantly unhinged; oysters come with a smoked tomato water and horseradish mignonette, while scallops are dressed with pickled raspberry, chilli and basil oil, There's also a confit tuna nicoişe, pressed skate schnitzel with mixed peach panzanella, and crab, bisque and fennel orecchiette. Mini martinis are the move when it comes to drinks. Noisy Oyster opens June 20. 2 Nicholls Clarke Yard, Shoreditch, E1 6SH 7. The new Chilean hotspot Mareida, Fitzrovia Chilean cuisine isn't overly represented in London, which makes the opening of Mareida all the more intriguing. The Chilean team includes head chef Trinidad Vial Della Maggiora and Carolina Bazán, who was voted Latin America's Best Female Chef in 2019 by the World's 50 Best. An all-day Vietnamese canteen Lai Rai, Peckham Bringing all-day bánh mì to the masses, Lai Rai is a 'new school' Vietnamese coffee spot by day and a snack shop and beer house by night. The spruced up pub William The Fourth, Leyton Exale, one of our favourite breweries in London, is behind this revamped grand Victorian boozer. Reopening on June 12, it'll come with the arrival of Short Road Pizza – also in residence at Exale's Bethnal Green pub Three Colts – a Romana thin crust style pie with American-leaning toppings, and, yes, plenty of hot honey. Surf and also turf Island, King's Cross Big chef lads Brad Carter and Tom Brown are coming together to launch a new restaurant takeover at the King's Cross outpost of Mare Street Market. Island – which you'll find in the venue's Chandelier Room – is tribute to surf and turf, with the duo pushing a coastal-take on the classic American steakhouse. Expect caviar crisps, pickled cockles, oyster caesar salad, trout pastrami and quail stuffed with prawn paella on the fishy side of things, as well as a mighty mixed grill.
