Liverpool v Bournemouth: police investigate as Semenyo reports racist abuse

Visiting forward Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator, and match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute.
He spoke with managers Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola before the two captains, Virgil van Dijk and Adam Smith, were called over to the dugouts.
An anti-discrimination message was read out to the Anfield crowd, and police officers reportedly went into the referee's dressing room at half-time.
Merseyside Police said a 47-year-old man was removed from the ground, and an investigation was under way after his identity was confirmed.

Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, the match commander for the Liverpool v Bournemouth game, said: 'Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form.

United have splashed out £200 million on new forwards to remedy a lack of punch in the final third. Despite promising debuts, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo failed to find the net, while substitute Benjamin Sesko could not make Arsenal pay for not pursuing their interest in the Slovenian. After finishing second for the past three seasons, the pressure is on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to deliver the club's first league title since 2003/04. The Spaniard was left to depend on his reliable defence and goalkeeper David Raya to secure a huge three points as the visitors never got going as an attacking force. Only four other teams scored fewer than United's 44 goals in 38 Premier League games last season as the English giants endured their worst campaign for 51 years, finishing 15th in the table. The new arrivals have at least lifted the mood around Old Trafford and the majority of the 75,000 fans in attendance could at least leave encouraged by the performance of Ruben Amorim's men. Cunha and Mbeumo unsettled Arsenal's normally unflappable centre-back pairing of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba early on. However, United's good work was undone by a glaring error from Bayindir, who was deputising for the injured Andre Onana. The Turkish international meekly flapped at an inswinging Declan Rice corner on 13 minutes, allowing Calafiori the simplest of tasks to head into an unguarded net. Patrick Dorgu came closest to a United reply before half-time with a powerful effort from distance that came back off the post. Mbeumo and Cunha saw tame efforts easily saved by Raya, while the Spaniard did brilliantly to divert another Cunha shot across the face of goal. Arsenal had held interest in Sesko for well over a year before instead pursuing a move for Viktor Gyokeres as the solution to their need for a number nine. The Swede had a quiet Premier League debut and was replaced before the hour mark by Kai Havertz. Sesko made his entrance moments later to a hero's welcome after rejecting the advances of Newcastle for the lure of the 20-time English champions. United continued to enjoy the better of the play without finding the finish as Mbeumo saw a powerful header expertly clawed out by Raya. But Arsenal held firm to keep pace with title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, who also won on the opening weekend of the campaign. (AFP)

Cristiano Ronaldo has made a surprise appearance at a museum in Tsim Sha Tsui dedicated to honouring his career during his visit to Hong Kong for the Saudi Super Cup, with fans waiting for hours outside the venue to catch the football legend. A Post reporter saw Ronaldo arriving at the CR7 Life Museum in K11 shopping centre at 8.30pm on Sunday, with fans crowding the entrance and cheering as they spotted him touring the venue. The star player briefly stepped out and appeared ready to sign jerseys handed to him, but shook his head and retreated after some fans pushed at the barricade. He left about half an hour later. The museum was launched last month to celebrate the football superstar's career. Dozens of fans arrived as early as 1pm, as rumours of his appearance swirled online. They included a Jiangxi visitor, who only identified himself as Gan. He said he had come to Hong Kong for the Saudi Cup and would stay until the finals on Saturday. 'If we get to see him, that would be even better, but if not, there's nothing we can do. They never said for sure that he would come ... unlike Messi the last time, when everyone said he was going to play but he didn't in the end,' he said.

Armed with TikTok, viral pickpocket-buster hunts London's thieves
On a recent weekday, Diego Galdino was on the hunt for pickpockets in central London, patrolling tourist hotspots for familiar suspects and telltale signs of those about to commit theft. Galdino, however, is not a policeman. The Brazilian food app delivery rider has become a popular, social media-fuelled vigilante targeting pickpocketing in the British capital. He started filming – and then trying to disrupt – thieves in action after witnessing several incidents. And his videos on Instagram, TikTok and other platforms under the handle 'pickpocketlondon' have proved a hit. One posted in late July on TikTok amassed nearly 27 million views – another on Instagram showing a suspect spitting at him garnered more than 12 million. 'I didn't know nothing about TikTok, I didn't know nothing about uploading a video,' Galdino said.
