Strawberry Moon photo from San Diego goes viral, Reddit users say ‘copyright this immediately'
A rare celestial phenomenon made its presence felt in the skies over the United States in the early hours of June 11. The June full moon, also known as the 'Strawberry Moon' made an appearance in the night skies. Unlike its name, the moon does not appear to be pinkish. Rather, an event known as a 'major lunar standstill' gives it a warm, golden hue. A photo of the moon rising over San Diego has grabbed attention on Reddit. Titled, 'Full Strawberry Moon rising behind the Mount Helix Cross tonight,' the image was posted by a handle called Evgeny Yorobe Photography. Giving out the details of how the snap was taken, the caption said, 'Tonight's Full "Strawberry" Moon rising behind the Mount Helix Cross. Single exposure captured from the Quarry Loop in Mission Trails, 6.25 miles away from the Cross. Nikon z8 and Tamron 150-600 g2, f6.3 1/15 sec ISO 250.' The photo garnered a lot of appreciation from Reddit users. One account commented, 'Wow! What a stunning photo! Good job!' Another asked the photographer how they had managed to make the moon look so huge. 'It's through lens compression, lining up the moon with my foreground from as far away as possible with as long of a lens as possible. For this shot I was 6.25 miles away from the Cross in Mission Trails, shooting at 600mm.' 'Imagine how beautiful this will be when it's littered with high rise apartments!' a comment read. One person advised, 'You should copyright this immediately.' Historically different names of the full moon are used to keep track of seasons. June's full moon is called the 'Strawberry Moon' to denote the ripening time for 'June-bearing' strawberries and other fruits. The name has been used by the Native American Algonquian tribes living in the northeastern part of the US as well as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples, according to The Strawberry Moon will appear larger due to a lunar standstill. It refers to the moon reaching the extremes of its orbit around the Earth. Such a situation occurs every 18.6 years. This year's moon will be the lowest full moon in almost 20 years. Another lunar standstill will not happen till 2043. It is the June full moon, which aligns with the summer harvest season. It reached its peak at 3:44 am Eastern Time on June 11. It will take place in 2043.

Strawberry Moon 2025: Date, time, and how to watch in India
Strawberry Moon 2025 India Date, Time: There's nothing special about a full moon, but on Wednesday, June 11, stargazers in the northern hemisphere will witness the Strawberry Moon. This will be the last full moon before the summer solstice and marks the end of the spring season. The Strawberry Moon isn't what you think it is, as tonight, the moon won't be turning pink or red. The term 'Strawberry Moon' comes from the Algonquin tribes in North America, who saw the full Moon as a signal that their strawberries were ready for harvest. Some American tribes also call it the Berries Ripen Moon, the Green Corn Moon. Blooming Moon and Hot Moon. For those wondering, some English names include Flower Moon, Planting Moon and Mead Moon, whereas Celtic people have named it Horse Moon, Dyan Moon and Rose Moon. The Strawberry Moon is more of a reminder of changing seasons and ancient traditions, with NASA saying that it is an indicator of how 'nature and sky once guided life below.' Since the Moon is currently near its farthest point from the Earth, it will appear as a Strawberry Micro Moon. The full Strawberry Moon will be at its peak on Wednesday at 3:44 AM E.T or 1:14 PM IST. The Strawberry Moon is special this time, thanks to a rare phenomenon called 'major lunar standstill', which occurs every 18.6 years. During this, the Moon takes a lower path across the sky, which is why it might appear as golden or amber. This is because of the scattering effect, which will make the Moon appear warm. Also, the Strawberry Moon may appear reddish in some areas, but this will be because short wavelengths of light get scattered, while light in the longer wavelengths, like red, will reach the viewer's eyes. If you are living in India, the best time to witness the phenomenon will be shortly after sunset between 7:15 PM and 8:00 PM. The best view will be from a spot where light pollution is minimal and the sky is clear. The rare phenomenon will also be visible in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Jaipur, to name a few. As it turns out, another Moon like this is not expected to show up until 2043, making it a once-in-a-lifetime event. If you are unable to watch the Strawberry Moon tonight, tune in to the livestream below.
