JKR Reviewing PCA Report Before Carrying Out East-West Highway Repairs - Director-General

Barnama3 days ago

KOTA BHARU, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Public Works Department (JKR) is reviewing the final report of the Pavement Condition Assessment (PCA) to plan road repair works, including along critical routes such as the East-West Highway (JRTB), says Public Works director-general Datuk Roslan Ismail.
He said the PCA was essential for identifying damaged pavement sections and determining the most suitable maintenance methods to ensure that available allocations were utilised optimally.
'For the Gerik–Jeli stretch of the JRTB, the PCA has been conducted since March 13 using advanced technologies such as the Multi Laser Profiler and Falling Weight Deflectometer.
'We began the assessment earlier this year, and it is now in its final stage. Based on the PCA report, we will use the existing allocation of RM55 million for repair works. If that is insufficient, we will apply for additional funding,' he told reporters after officiating the annual general meeting of the Kelantan chapter of the Malaysian Malay Contractors Association here today.
Commenting further, Roslan said that it was impossible to repair the entire route in a short period due to the high cost and potential disruption to other infrastructure projects.
'In this regard, we agree with the suggestion made by the Perak Menteri Besar, which aligns with JKR's aspirations. We have long had plans in place, but it must be understood that the country's funding system follows a 'whole of nation' approach, where allocations are distributed comprehensively and according to annual priorities.
'God willing, with the support from the state government and emphasis from the Works Minister, we have submitted an application for phased improvements,' he said.
The 215-kilometre JRTB, which links Gerik in Perak to Jeli in Kelantan, has been identified as a strategic route frequently damaged due to weather conditions and heavy traffic flow.
Roslan emphasised that any road repair works would be carried out prudently to avoid overlap or interference with other ongoing development projects.

Ops Luxury: Reality Check On Rich And Reckless As JPJ Seizes 101 Glam Vehicles

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- A Porsche linked to a Malaysian celebrity tops the heap of 101 marquee vehicles seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) during the implementation of Ops Luxury nationwide from June 1 until today. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said other glamourous vehicles seized included Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, BMW 530e, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Alphards, and a Lotus Elise S which were found to have committed various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations. "Among the offences detected include the absence of a Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) and valid insurance, expired driving licence or no valid licence, use of fake registration plates, mismatched chassis number and use of counterfeit trade plates. "All vehicles involved are now detained at the JPJ storage depot for further action and investigation," he said at the Ops Luxury press conference at the Kuala Lumpur JPJ here today. Aedy Fadly said the integrated implementation of Ops Luxury was aimed at curbing the careless attitude of a few luxury vehicle owners towards road regulations. "Owning a luxury vehicle is not a licence to ignore the law. The laws of the country apply to all regardless of status or brand of vehicle. "Strict action will continue to be taken against anyone who fails to comply with basic requirements such as vehicle documents and a valid driving licence," he said. He also encouraged the public to report any traffic law violations via the MyJPJ: e-Aduan app or email aduantrafik@ with complete details for investigation purposes. "The JPJ will continue to implement Ops Luxury periodically to ensure that only legal, safe, and registered vehicles are allowed on the road. This is important for the safety of road users and the integrity of the national transport system," he said.

Sabah's Pan Borneo Highway Package 20 Lagging At Just 1.6 Pct Completion

LAHAD DATU, June 24 (Bernama) -- Physical progress on Package 20 of the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah remains low at just 1.6 per cent, despite the Letter of Acceptance (SST) having been issued nearly eight months ago, Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said. The Sabah Works Minister said the delay was mainly due to ongoing land and property assessment processes, which are still being actively carried out. As such, he has instructed the contractor and all related parties to take proactive measures to ensure smoother progress and timely development of the package. 'Although the progress of Package 20 is still within the contractual schedule, the percentage is relatively low,' he told reporters after inspecting the Package 20 construction site of the Pan Borneo Highway here today. Package 20 is part of Phase 1B of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah, with a construction period of 36 to 48 months. It involves the South East alignment from Tawau to Lahad Datu, covering Packages 16 to 20. Shahelmey also instructed the contractor to identify sections within Package 20 that are unaffected by land acquisition issues so that physical works such as clearing and alignment formation can proceed without delay. 'So far, clearing and alignment formation works have begun on at least one kilometre, and I hope progress will continue to improve from time to time,' he said. He also reminded all stakeholders, including the Public Works Department (JKR), the contractor and the project office to anticipate potential risks early to minimise disruptions within the contract period. At the same time, he stressed the importance of maintaining existing roads still in use by the public, urging serious attention to traffic safety and management throughout the highway's construction period.
