As of now the delegations from Gujarat, officials from the Union sports ministry, IOA chief and the CEO have taken part in various discussions with the Commonwealth Sport.With Canada reluctant, India are in a good position to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Even in 2026, Glasgow had to be brought in after all nations including Australia (the original bidder) and later Malaysia walked away because of rising costs, despite CS agreeing to offer 100 million pounds to offset the costs. India too was approached but did not want to host.
Ahmedabad has been projected as the host city in the letter of intent submitted in March 2025. The city has already spent crores in sports infrastructure and without a major event the venues might be put to great use.

More than a couple of years ago I met him when Mohun Bagan organised a function in Kolkata to felicitate him, Gurbux Singh and me. I received a call from Paes a few days before the function. He asked me to bring the Olympic bronze medal when I visit Kolkata and I was more than happy to do it. Paes had lost his medal and wanted to get a replica prepared, that's why he wanted that medal. My medal was with him for around four-five months but he could not find someone who could prepare the replica. He told me that he tried finding some good replica artists in Mumbai and Kolkata but failed. He passed away today and it's unfortunate that he did not have that bronze medal, his biggest sporting success, with him in his last moments. His son Leander also won an Olympic bronze in 1996 Atlanta Games and he was a proud father. I really hoped I could have helped him get a replica prepared. I still remember Leander accompanying him to Mohun Bagan ground during matches and practice sessions. At that time, he was not sure which sport he would choose. Los Angeles 2028 to allow venue naming rights in first for Olympics; Comcast, Honda debut deals
The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games will, for the first time in Games history, allow venue naming rights, organisers said on Thursday, unveiling Comcast and Honda as inaugural partners in a move aimed at boosting commercial revenues. The pilot program, developed with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will let qualifying LA28 partners retain existing venue names during the Games and buy additional marketing assets. It also opens naming rights for up to 19 temporary venues to worldwide Olympic partners and LA28 sponsors, while standard 'clean venue' rules continue for non-partner sites. Comcast will lend its name to the Comcast Squash Center at Universal Studios, where squash will make its Olympic debut on the Courthouse Square backlot. Honda Center in Anaheim will become the first arena to keep its name during an Olympic competition, hosting indoor volleyball. 'Anytime you're the first to do something in the context of the Olympics, it's a big deal,' LA28 chair Casey Wasserman told Reuters. He noted money from selling venue naming rights would be in addition to the overall sponsorship revenue target of $2.5 billion, which LA28 calls the largest commercial revenue raise in sports. 'We've been very conservative, so we have none of this revenue in our budget, so any revenue is upside,' he said. 'Having said that, we think it could be significant. It's a really powerful platform for branded partners of ours to engage with us and also with the globe, because it's part of the broadcast. The reach is really stunning.' From a practical perspective, the potential for SoFi Stadium and Arena to maintain their names during the Games will help fans navigate the city. 'As a pure matter of wayfinding, it's actually an important piece of the puzzle,' he said. Comcast, which holds U.S. broadcast rights through NBC and Peacock, said it would support LA28 'across our entire company,' including coverage and the squash showcase. IOA, KSLTA mourn the loss of 1972 Olympic medallist Vece Paes
Bengaluru: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) on Thursday mourned the sad demise of Dr Vece Paes, the member of the bronze medal-winning hockey team in the 1972 Munich Olympics and father of Indian tennis legend Leander Paes. Dr Paes passed away in Kolkata on Thursday morning after he was admitted to Woodlands Hospital late on August 12 with multiorgan dysfunction due to lower respiratory tract & gastrointestinal tract infections. He was 80. "On behalf of everyone at IOA, expressing our deep sadness on the news of the passing of 1972 Munich Olympic Medalist Dr Vece Paes. Our thoughts and prayers with Leander and family during this incredibly difficult time," IOA shared on X. An unshakable pillar of Indian sports, Dr Paes leaves behind a legacy of achievement both in and out of competition, motivating countless athletes and sports admirers. 'On behalf of KSLTA, we express our deepest condolences to Leander, his mother Jennifer and the entire family on the passing of Dr Paes. It is indeed a sad day for sports in general as Dr Paes was a great advocate of building a strong sporting culture in the country. He was in the forefront of sports science in the country and his contributions to Indian sports eco system will be remembered forever,' expressed Sunil Yajaman, joint secretary of KSLTA. 'Dr Vece Paes was a dear friend and I personally have learnt a lot from him and I remember many sessions where I have sat and listened to his experience on handling and creating world-class sports persons. He was one of the finest human beings I have met. On behalf of KSLTA Executive Committee, I hope his family will have god's strength to bear with this irreplaceable loss. It's a personal loss for me and great loss for the Indian sporting fraternity,' he added. Born in Goa in April, 1945, Dr Paes was exceptional in both sports and academics. Beyond his athletic achievements, he was also a doctor of sports medicine and served as president of the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club. started his medical practice at NRS Medical College and Woodlands Hospital in the 1960s. In addition to hockey, he showed his skills by playing divisional cricket, football and rugby. His love for rugby led him to become the president of the Indian Rugby Football Union from 1996 to 2002. He was chairman of the AIFF Medical Commission from 2003 to 2006. He later served as chairman of the AIFF Medical Committee from 2017 to 2020.
