BREAKING NEWS Shocking update after teenager found her seven-month-old baby brother dead in their Perth house

Daily Mail15-07-2025
A mother has been charged with murdering a seven-month-old boy in what police alleged was a domestic violence homicide.
Detectives are investigating the baby's death at a home in Balcatta in Perth after emergency services were called to the property about 3am on Monday following reports of a serious assault.
It is believed the infant suffered stab wounds.
Multiple ambulance crews arrived at the address where they found the baby with critical injuries.
The boy died at the scene.
A 31-year-old woman was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and a 13-year-old female teenager transported to Perth Children's Hospital.
The death was being treated as a domestic violence homicide confined to the family, WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said.
'As you can imagine, this is something a trauma that no one would ever recover from, and I think the family just deeply affected,' he told reporters on Tuesday.
He said family members were present at the time of the baby's death.
'There was a male, a female and a young person,' Mr Blanch said.
The police commissioner described the baby's death as a 'very sad story'.
'There would be very few cases where you would have a crime scene of such a horrific nature for our officers and all first responders involved,' he said.
'And certainly those officers would be entitled to their critical incident leave, but that's something that will most likely haunt them for the rest of their careers.'
Family members of the infant were assisting detectives with their inquiries, police said.
The woman will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Jury begins deliberating in trial of Memphis man charged with organizing Young Dolph's killing

A jury began deliberating Wednesday in the trial of a man charged with organizing the daytime ambush killing of rapper Young Dolph at a Memphis bakery in November 2021. The trial of Hernandez Govan, 45, began Monday in a Memphis courtroom. Govan is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and first-degree murder. He is not accused of shooting Young Dolph, but prosecutors claim he directed the two people who did and was criminally responsible for the commission of premeditated murder. The 12-person jury began deliberating at about 5:15 p.m., after prosecutors and a defense attorney delivered closing arguments. Young Dolph — a rapper, independent label owner and producer whose legal name was Adolph Thornton Jr. — grew up in Memphis and was admired in the city for his charitable works. The 36-year-old was in his hometown to hand out Thanksgiving turkeys to families when his visit to his favorite cookie shop turned into an attack that shocked the entertainment world. Authorities said two men exited a white Mercedes-Benz and began shooting at the rapper at the bakery on Nov. 17, 2021. He died after being shot about 20 times, according to a medical examiner's report. Testifying against Govan was Cornelius Smith Jr., who has admitted to being one of the two shooters who ambushed Young Dolph. Smith previously was the main trial witness against Justin Johnson, who was convicted of first-degree murder in 2024 after Smith named him as the second shooter. Memphis prosecutors have portrayed the killing as part an effort by Anthony 'Big Jook' Mims to get revenge on Young Dolph for diss tracks aimed at Big Jook and the record label he helped run for his brother, rapper Yo Gotti. Smith has testified that Big Jook put out a $100,000 hit on Young Dolph as well as smaller bounties on all the artists at Young Dolph's record label, Paper Route Empire. At the earlier trial of Justin Johnson, a prosecutor told jurors that Cocaine Muzik Group (now known as Collective Music Group), a rival record label founded by Yo Gotti, wanted Young Dolph to work for them, but he turned them down. Big Jook was shot and killed outside a restaurant in January 2024. Prosecutors argued Govan was the middle man between Big Jook and the two shooters. Smith testified on Monday that 'I didn't know anything about Paper Route having no hits,' before Govan told him about them. He said Govan hired him to 'do the hits," and was going to take $10,000 as his cut. Govan was also the person who told him and Johnson that Young Dolph would be in Memphis for the Thanksgiving turkey giveaway, so 'that's our opportunity,' Smith said. Prosecutors introduced as evidence cellphone communications involving Johnson, Smith, Govan and Big Jook ahead of the shooting. Meanwhile, Govan's defense attorney, Manny Arora, tried to paint Smith as an unreliable witness and a 'pathological liar' who would say anything to try to get a lighter sentence. He also questioned the validity of the cellphone communications, saying none directly incriminated Govan. Arora pointed to previous testimony where Smith recalled a chance encounter with Big Jook. At the time, Smith implied that Big Jook was the person who hired him. After Smith was arrested, his attorney called Big Jook's attorney and received somewhere between $38,000 and $50,000 in cash. Smith said on Monday that he did not know who had supplied the money. Smith also testified that he previously heard that Govan might be working with the FBI. Arora asked why Smith would take a job from Govan if that were the case. Smith said that Govan was 'innocent until proven guilty.' Govan did not testify in his defense. A trial date has not been set for Smith. Johnson was sentenced to life in prison in September 2024. He was later sentenced to 35 additional years in prison for two other convictions from the trial: conspiracy to commit murder and possessing a gun as a felon. Young Dolph began his career by releasing numerous mixtapes. His studio albums include his 2016 debut, 'King of Memphis.' He also collaborated on other mixtapes and albums with fellow rappers Key Glock, Megan Thee Stallion, T.I., Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz and others. Young Dolph had three albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200, with 2020′s 'Rich Slave' peaking at No. 4.

Officer who misled murdered banker's family in line for promotion

The family of a murdered banker have told of their anger after discovering a senior police officer who was found to have misled them was being lined up for a major promotion. Relatives of Alistair Wilson, who was shot dead on his doorstep in Nairn 21 years ago by an unknown assailant, were told a suspect would be arrested on May 15 last hoped the arrest would bring a breakthrough in the long-running, unsolved case but only learnt that it had not taken place owing to a last-minute decision when they later contacted a police liaison officer. Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Livingstone denied being aware that a date had been identified for the arrest, but an investigation by Police Scotland concluded this was not truthful and he was found guilty of misconduct. Despite this, he has now been selected for a prestigious training course and is reported to be in the process of being groomed to become assistant chief constable. A source close to the Wilson family told the Daily Mail they felt they had been 'betrayed'. 'They are deeply concerned but it is more a sense of outrage,' they said. 'The police claim their relationship with the family is a priority — but this proves it obviously isn't. After years of delays and a failure to make any breakthroughs, this feels like another betrayal for them.' • Murdered banker's son 'still has nightmares' about doorstep shooting Their concerns were echoed by Douglas Ross, the former Scottish Conservative leader. 'Eyebrows will be raised at the prospect of this officer potentially getting promoted for a senior leadership role, despite his previous conduct,' the Highlands & Islands MSP said. Ross added that 'instead of being held to account, it seems like those at the top of Police Scotland want to reward him'. He claimed that the move 'only risks adding insult to injury for a family desperate for answers'. Wilson, 30, a married father of two, was killed on the evening of November 28, 2004. A man called at the family's home and spoke to his wife, Veronica, who had answered the door, and asked for her went to speak to the man and was handed a blue envelope with 'Paul' written on it. He went inside and was shot when he returned to the gun used, a Haenel Suhl pistol from the 1930s, was missed in the first police search and was recovered from a nearby drain by a council worker ten days by Northern Constabulary in 2004 and Police Scotland in 2013 failed to make any significant progress or establish a motive. A reinvestigation was ordered last September after more than 150 'concerns' were highlighted in a review of the evidence gathered in the police inquiry into the killing. Crown Office officials ordered a fresh 'cold case' inquiry, involving a new police team. Jo Farrell, the chief constable, has now given Livingstone her backing to take part in the elite 19-week course, which, if completed, would pave the way for him to significantly increase his salary to more than £150,000. The executive leaders programme, run by the College of Policing, is a course which 'offers support and learning to build your personal resilience, boost your confidence and enhance your capabilities'. A police insider said: 'It's almost guaranteed that he will become an assistant chief constable once this course is completed.' Police Scotland declined to comment on Livingstone's participation in the course. Commenting on the investigation, Chief Superintendent Suzanne Chow said: 'Our relationship with Alistair's family is a priority and we are determined to bring those involved in Alistair's murder to justice.'

Two arrested after ice cream seller stabbed to death

Two people have been arrested in northwest London after an ice cream seller was fatally stabbed numerous times. Shazad Khan, 41, was treated for stab wounds by paramedics in Monks Park, Wembley, at about 6.10pm on Tuesday but he died at the scene. His family have been informed. The Metropolitan Police began a murder investigation and in the early hours of Wednesday a man, 26, was arrested on suspicion of murder. A woman, 31, was also arrested at the scene for conspiracy to murder. A police tent was set up at the scene of the stabbing PA VIDEO/PA Residents could not believe that Khan, who regularly worked in the area, had been stabbed eight times. Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, who lives near by and was a childhood friend of the victim, said: 'This guy, we know him — he's a famous ice cream guy. I came here and his body was still here, and police had cordoned off the area. 'All that we know is that a guy with a grey hoodie stabbed him eight times. I know his brothers as well — they're all local.' Butt said the victim started selling ice creams in the area 'about a year ago' and also used to play football and cricket in Monks Park. Khan, whose van was known for having a large teddy bear beside it, was married with a daughter, according to Butt. Several police officers and a blue forensics tent could be seen inside the police cordon in Monks Park on Wednesday afternoon. A second witness, who did not want to be named, said the ice cream van was towed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A separate white van and blue car were also taken away. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Waller said: 'Our thoughts remain with Shazad's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. 'Intelligence at this stage leads us to believe there is no wider threat to the public. Detectives are conducting a thorough investigation, and locals can expect to see an uptick in police presence in the area. Anyone with any information — particularly dashcam or doorbell footage from the time of the incident — is urged to speak to us as a matter of urgency.'
