Chris Bryant: I was sexually abused by National Youth Theatre founder
The MP said Michael Croft had invited him to dinner every evening while he was attending the prestigious drama group in London during the summer of 1978.
Sir Chris, who was 16 at the time, claimed that one night at Mr Croft's house he came back from the lavatory to find his host naked except for a silk robe.
He claimed Mr Croft, who died in 1986, then asked him for sex which he felt he had no option but to go through with.
In an interview with The Sunday Times ahead of the release of his book A Life And A Half: The Unexpected Making Of A Politician, Sir Chris, 63, said he was left to feel like a '16-year-old whore'.
'I don't like telling this very much because I've not told it very often,' he said.
'I always ended up at his house'
'It was always the same Italian in King's Cross. He would eat and drink, I would eat, then he would theoretically give me a lift home, except I always ended up at his house.'
Sir Chris says Mr Croft never made an advance towards him again, with the pair remaining friends. As an ordained minister, Sir Chris conducted Mr Croft's funeral.
'He behaved absolutely appallingly, it's despicable,' the Labour culture minister added.
'Michael, in my case, managed to spot somebody who was gay at a time when nearly all homosexuality was illegal – certainly very frowned on – so presumed that people would keep a secret.'
He claimed that at least one friend during his National Youth Theatre days was also abused by Mr Croft.
Sexually assaulted by five male MPs
Sir Chris also said he has been sexually assaulted by five male MPs during his time in Westminster, although he has not named or reported them.
'There was no system for doing so and I was frightened it would make me look bad,' he said, adding he felt homophobia in Parliament has declined during his 24 years as an MP.
A statement on the National Youth Theatre website said: 'We are grateful to Chris Bryant for disclosing to our team the historical abuse he suffered in the company in the 1970s.
'We are very sorry that this happened to him and to others who have previously shared with us their accounts of historic abuse by the same perpetrator.

Princess Andre has revealed she 'wished she had a happier childhood' as she opened up about the 'dark times' she faced after Katie Price 's split from Peter Andre. The rising star, 18, has landed her very own ITV2 reality show as Princess becomes a celebrity in her own right. Cameras have followed her around as she makes waves in the highly lucrative influencer world, having already signed big-money deals with brands such as Morphe and Superdrug. In her new fly-on-the-wall series, titled The Princess Diaries, the teenager addresses the traumatic memories from her glamour model mum's divorce from Mysterious Girl singer Pete and her other breakups. She candidly admitted: 'I did have a counsellor, I do still see her every now and then. 'But I don't feel like I can really talk, so I just write everything down in my notes. The rising star, 18, has landed her very own ITV2 reality show as Princess becomes a celebrity in her own right - though mum Katie will not make an appearance 'I do wish, like, I could have had a more happier childhood. In the sense of like, I had so many things on my plate at a young age.' Princess said she wishes sometimes that she 'wasn't like that' and not had things lingering at the back of her mind at such a young age. While acknowledging the 'good times' in her childhood, she opened up about Katie's bitter split from ex Kieran Hayler when she was just 10 years old. Katie was married to Kieran for eight years but their relationship was tainted by accusations of infidelity. They wed in 2013, before renewing their vows three years later in Barbados during a 'make or break' holiday and divorced in 2021. Princess explained how 'everything kind of went downhill' as she and her siblings got 'really close to him and loved him'. She said: 'My mum, obviously being heartbroken, didn't deal with that in the best way, she went through a very, very dark time, which is understandable. 'Which is hard for me because I was around adulty things that kids should never see and I think as well, when we needed our mum there, she wasn't emotionally able to be there because she had so much of her own problems going on.' In her new fly-on-the-wall series, titled The Princess Diaries, the teenager addresses the traumatic memories from her glamour model mum's divorce from Mysterious Girl singer Pete and her other breakups Fans will see Princess admit she would regularly arrive home from school and 'get into bed and cry'. While Princess is close with her dad, she admitted she would never speak to him about her troubles as she has 'always grown up knowing 'my mum and dad don't like each other'. She concluded: 'I wouldn't say I'm fully, fully recovered from it but mum is such a different person and if you put her now to back then, she's genuinely really fixed herself.' Daily Mail previously revealed how Katie, 47, will not feature in the new series, though Pete, 52, and Princess' older brother Junior, 20, are set to make appearances. 'Katie will not be in Princess's show, the decision has been made and it's final. 'Princess loves her mum, and they have a great relationship, but the show is all about her work and home life. 'Television bosses were adamant that nothing was to be 'staged' to include Katie as it would not be a real and truthful insight into her life.' As well as older brother Junior, Princess has six other siblings - Theo, Amelia and Arabella from Pete's marriage to Emily MacDonagh, and Harvey, Jett and Bunny from her mum Katie's side.
